Civica.id lahir dari gagasan kolektif beberapa Organisasi Masyarakat Sipil seperti Perhimpunan Pengembangan Media Nusantara, Kota Kita, Indonesian Visual Art Archive, Perempuan Lintas Batas, Penabulu Foundation terhadap situasi pandemi COVID -19. Inisiatif ini bertujuan memberikan ruang bersama bagi organisasi masyarakat sipil untuk mendokumentasikan dan mewartakan secara digital beragam praktik baik, peran serta, dan dukungannya bagi masyarakat Indonesia melalui beragam penelitian, kerja sosial kemanusiaan, dan kegiatan pemberdayaan.
