This week we talk about Netflix’s recent short film anthology, ‘African Folktales, Reimagined’ where 6 filmmakers from Africa each made a short film inspired by a folktale from their region.  We rank the films and talk about each entry, digging into what aspects we loved and those we did not.

We talk about Elesin Oba: The Kings Horseman this week, an adaptation of Wole Soyinka’s play Death and the King's Horseman. So happy to be joined by Wilfred Okichie, a prolific Nigerian film critic and curator who adds a lot of great context to the discussion. Elesin Oba: The Kings Horseman is available on Netflix.

The 6th edition of The Ngalabi Short Film Festival took place at The International University of East Africa over three days from the 28th to the 30th of July 2022 and as is the tradition with this podcast we got together to talk about the short films that stood out for us. She details the journey behind its conception; how it started off as a documentary project researching the origin of short hair policies in Ugandan schools and more.
