This video is brought to you by CHAZAKwww.wearechazak.comIn this video, Rabbi Meir Sultan poses the following question:- Why are the statements of viddui (confession) so dramatic?Aren't these statements a little harsh? It seems like some of the confessions sound a lot worse than they actually are.Rabbi Meir Sultan answers this with another question and a story:- Why is it, when Moshe is praying to Hashem, is he not playing down the sin of the golden calf? Why doesn’t he slid it under the carpet a little bit? Why does Moshe seem to get us (Klal Yisreal) in more trouble by making this sin sound much worse than it actually was?At 2:23 into the video, Rabbi Meir Sultan tells us a story about a kid in a suit that explains the answers to our questions. Summary:During the Hebrew month of Elul, we dramatize our sins, because we don’t want the Satan (the Accuser) to jump in and spill the beans before us. Since we as the Jewish people are already doing such a good job of recounting (confessing) our sins, the Satan leaves them alone and doesn’t use his time to do the same.
