El 13 de noviembre de 2002, a las tres y cuarto de la tarde, el barco Prestige, un petrolero monocasco con bandera de Bahamas, lanzó un SOS a 50 kilómetros de Finisterre. Ese fue el comienzo del que acabó siendo el desastre medioambiental más grande que se ha vivido en la historia de España.
