The stories that needed to be told!
I’m a Georgia History teacher and grew up in Georgia (even attended the University of Georgia) not learning 1/2 of these stories! These are the stories that absolutely needed to be told! I swear this podcast should be part of the 8th grade Georgia Studies curriculum!!! Thank you for taking the time to research these dark parts of our state history and for telling the stories so eloquently and so respectfully. This podcast is fantastic. I’ve texted so many other history nerd friends of mine this week recommending it.
My own mom was one of the ones who moved to Forsyth County in the early 2000’s without a clue about the past there. I taught school in Cobb County for 15 years without realizing that the site of the Leo Frank hanging was across the interstate from Andretti’s. 🤦🏼♀️ I needed this podcast in my life! I feel like it wove together so many connections and stories that I had only heard bits and pieces of. It gave me a more thorough understanding of Leo Frank that I can share with my students. It made me realize that a lot more needs to be added to our 8th grade standards (including not reducing Tom Watson to simply “the voice for the farmers…”). I could go on forever here, but simply THANK YOU for taking the time to tell these important stories.

Modern Historical Narrative
I enjoyed BT’s storytelling style. He includes a blend of historical primary and secondary sources along with a local lens.

Relevant, thorough, challenging
Having recently moved to the northern suburbs of Atlanta, this podcast suddenly became more relevant than ever before. BT’s tireless efforts in researching and sharing these true stories that have shaped where I now live, have made a deep, long lasting impact on me. He intently grips his listeners, drawing them in to a story where they become more than simply bystanders, and ends with a challenge to step up and strive for change. Thank you, BT, for all you’ve done to uncover the truth that has shaped Georgia and America.

I recently found this podcast. While I am enjoying the story and added material, I do not like how the host/writer put so much emphasis on what he thought and what he did and his personal opinions of what was happening during that time in history. Born when he was , he does not know the true feeling of society at that time; he was born during a time when everyone wanted political correctness and their spotlight of glory. 20 years from now LGBTQ++++++will be a part of history, is that wrong/right? Someone will argue each way. But that is history. Everything in the past, looks misleading or condescending for someone during the present time. Stop adding your personal opinions, it takes away from what you are trying to produce, and makes it seem as though “ yellow journalism “ is what you were trying to create. This podcast is definitely not a documentary; way too much personal opinion which wasn’t necessary to tell the story. I have had to fast forward past all the rubbish that the host/writer kept putting into each session. It’s a true shame because this story would have been much better without it.

Well crafted
This was a well handled and well presented story of Atlanta and America. Thanks so much for taking me on the journey. I’m a northerner living in Savannah and the lands a little haunted everywhere in Georgia this helps explain why.
Great work ^^

Chilling, Thought-Provoking, Real
I cannot reccomend this podcast highly enough. It shines a light on a pocket of American history I had never even heard of. BT is a masterful storyteller, and weaves through the different stories in a way that paints a truly vivid picture of Atlanta in the early 1900's.
To say it's eye-opening would be putting it mildly. This podcast really pulls back the curtain on a piece of Americana that many would rather forget, but in such a way that it encourages the listener to learn from our nation's past and strive toward a better future.

Very engaging
I grew up in the South and studied southern history in college. Never had I heard any of these 4 main thread stories before. Host did an excellent job weaving in the stories with contemporary social mindset and views of the late 1800’s/early 1900’s south. Well done, BT.

Concerned...
Ok, BT. I really wanted to like this. And clearly a lot of people do and that’s wonderful. I’m struggling to see the connection between Will and the ripper. It feels a bit far-fetched. My recommendation, stick to writing and allow someone else to perform/read your script. I agree with some of the other folks that I think this had great potential. But whoa. It’s a lot of content and needed some editing.

Fantastic Binge about Atlanta History!
I’d started listening to this podcast when about 3 episodes were out, then waiting weekly for new episodes got tedious for me so I stopped listening for a while, or would catch an episode here and there when I had a long drive. The last two days have seen me with an AirPod in one ear at all times listening intently while half-assing the rest of my life as I binged the last ten episodes and all I can say is holy moly, what a ride! There are moments in this series I can just think about and get chills. Like BT says, there are some moments where it would be easier to look away (maybe why I strayed in the beginning), but it’s worth hanging in to find out how everything is interconnected and how the ripples of what happened over 100 years ago can still be felt today. BT does an incredible job distilling what had to have been a daunting amount of information into a cohesive and fascinating story. To say it’s worth a listen would be an understatement.

Get on with it!
Dudes got a lot of white guilt. I’m 8 episodes in and I don’t know if he’s gonna apologize for slavery for 3 more episodes or get to the story. If I could give this guy some advice it would be to Listen to In the Red Clay. Now that’s how you tell a story.

Great Podcast
I loved learning about my city’s history!! If you live in Atlanta don’t miss this important glimpse into our history. Even if you don’t, it is an amazing journey through American history! This podcast really makes you look around and value the community you live in. BT is a wonderful storyteller.

Wonderful

This is a must-listen-to-podcast!
What a great find! BT does such a great job bringing history to life. I learned so much from this and the Vault access has helped me dive in more. This is all I listened to until I finished all the episodes, I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! Such thought provoking content, helping me understand the past and being able to make the future better. It seriously makes me want to pack my bags and go to Atlanta. Can’t say enough good things about this podcast!

Such a timely subject!
I am late to the game listening, so honestly it was hard to listen to in the midst of current (summer 2020) racial tensions in our country. If there were ever a time we needed these stories, it is now! B.T. is a great storyteller and the production was great. I loved the old timey radio sounds for quotes. So much research clearly went into it, and I highly recommend the Vault with all the extras.

Once you start it’s hard to stop!
An essential listen for anyone living in or around Atlanta. Especially interesting for a transplant like me knowing little about the area. However, these stories are still well worth the listen no matter where you live - there’s a lot to learn here. I highly recommended!

Very intriguing
Though this was fairly long, with all kinds of information in different directions, it was super informative and entertaining and interesting, while being both frustrating and encouraging, which he makes note of as he wraps up the ending. Well done!

Love
Not only do I love listening to BTs voice, but the stories are so fascinating and it makes you think and sometimes cringe and especially teaches you. It’s very timely and appropriate now despite it being historical. Listen!!!

Fantastic
I just binge-listened to the entire series over the last week. I learned so much and was alternately fascinated, appalled, and engrossed in the stories. I can’t stop thinking about how much the concept of “catlick” applies to the way we’ve learned history for generations.

Ears and Heart Open
I just finished all 22 episodes. With all that is swirling in our society today the timing was perfect. I am white, male,’tend toward conservative,‘born in Memphis, raised in Georgia. I needed to hear this and reflect on where we have been and where we are. I am committed to grow and to learn and to act. BT Harman does an incredible job of telling the story in a way which both deeply challenged me and helped me stay open to listen and think and learn. Make sure you listen to the final words of the last episode!. Well done !

Wow!
Catlick is an absolutely fantastic podcast. I binged all 22 episodes in a matter of a few days and I wish there were 22 more! 4 gripping and wrenching stories told by a fantastic storyteller made for one of the more enjoyable podcasts I’ve ever consumed. Thank you! - an Atlanta Native

Good podcasts
I’m a history buff and this was done very well. Each episode could have been a bit longer, but otherwise very entertaining and i found out a lot of history i had no idea about. I recommend it 100%.

If you haven’t already, listen to Catlick!!!
I’ve never left a review of a podcast before but I literally couldn’t stop listening to this one. As someone who’s grown up in the south, I connected to this story deeply and saw history come to life before my eyes.

Thought-Provoking Stories, Amazing Storyteller
BT Harman delivers a historical saga worthy of your time. It is well-researched and thought-provoking, and many of the legal, social, and cultural themes Atlanta and the Deep South were struggling with 100 years ago are very much relevant today. Have we learned from the past? How can we do better? Catlick challenges the listener to learn from, know, and respect history—and each other. And it is narrated by an amazing storyteller. Well done BT!

Awesome True Crime stories
I just finished Catlick and I loooovveedd it!!! I was immediately drawn into the Ripper murders and stayed hooked all the way through. BT is a dream of a story teller. I appreciated the social commentary as well. And the fact that it doesn’t tie up nicely in the end is good cuz it’s true and that’s how life is!!! I think BT did a really good job covering these broad, diverse, cases in a way that is engaging. Great job BT!

Wild history and beautiful nuance
I just finished the last episode of Catlick. By golly BT has done it again, having me 😭😭😭 in the finale. What a wild ride, what an ode to a city and a country I both love and get very angry at all of the time. This fulfills BT’s mission in life of seeding thoughts that move culture forward. Such important stories told with an unmatched nuance in our time.... listen up!

I loved it!

An addictive shedding of light on an obscure piece of history
BT tells four very important and (to me as I had never heard of any of these stories before) obscure narratives which intersect interestingly with Southern history. Thank you for bringing this Catlick to light. You have a gift, and I look forward to the next manifestation of it.

True crime to race relations
Great podcast. Uses true crime to hook you and then transitions nicely to American race relations.

Absolutely fantastic!
I started this about 4 months ago and after the first episode, I was hooked! I’m a sucker for a great story and a good storyteller. I’m also a history buff and was born in GA.
BT does an amazing job of telling these stories in a manner that is entertaining and thought-provoking. His intense research into these topics really shows and makes for an even more interesting listen.
There are many people who would take these stories and try to apply a political agenda to them or make them “politically correct”, but BT shies away from that and presents these controversial stories in a non-controversial manner. In a society of biased news from both sides, BT does an impressive job of staying true, factual, and on point.

It’s long but worth it. BT has done some amazing research. GREAT storytelling! I appreciate learning important history not told in school.

Best Historical pod cast ever
This was so good and I’m not even from Atlanta or Georgia. I wish he would move to Dallas to do the same thing for this area. Lol
Either way if you enjoy history this is a great deep dive of a podcast.

Fascinating, Entertaining, Important
The suspense builds but so do the important seeds for thought. As a lifelong (and fairly long-lived at that) southerner I was reminded of past impressions from my childhood and learned about things that were hidden from me. Harman connects the distant past with recent and even present events. He’s a masterful storyteller who clearly becomes more adept at the podcast medium as he goes along. Well worth the listener’s time. A coworker and I have loved recounting details of the stories’ twists and turns.

Stunning
Incredible job capturing a moment in our country’s history that reflects and symbolizes the 100 years since. So rare for so many national headlines to converge on the same place in the same period of time. So fascinating! Atlanta reflects America, true then and now in the good, bad, and ugly!

History that will rock your worldview
My first crime podcast, and B.T.s storytelling is downright enchanting and trustworthy. The subject matters of racism, serial killings, lynchings, violent mobs and greed.... are approached with such a pure heart and sharp intellect. I wish history was taught through this balanced lens. The last episode is the BEST, and reveals a wider purpose of “sewing the seeds of healthy culture” and for me, this describes my take away. My relationship with history has changed. I have told one thousand people about this podcast and hope there will be more from BT in the future. Also, the Vault does not disappoint!!!!!

Glad i took a risk
I literally told my husband when I sent him the link to the first episode, “I want to listen to this, but I am afraid it will be too much”.
It was a lot...a lot of really sad, hard truth...that I am glad I now know. I’m so glad I listened to these people’s stories. History totally repeats itself and I wish we would learn from the past. I can not control anyone, but I can control what I do, my actions. So I will do what I can. Thanks for doing what you did BT. Thanks for telling these stories.

Untold southern history
I was initially a little skeptical on whether I would enjoy this or not, then I blew through it in less than a week and couldn’t wait for the new release of each episode. I loved learning the untold history of my state. Thanks B.T!!!
