Audiobook Time
We're entering the dog days of summer where our home of state of Nevada toasts and bakes us evenly on both sides, so CC and I are going to hunker down inside. We'll continue writing and podcasting, of course, but we're embarking on a new journey, too.and bakes us evenly on both sides, so CC and I are going to hunker down inside. We'll continue writing and podcasting, of course, but we're embarking on a new journey, too.One of the more common questions we get is, "Do you have this in audiobook?" Obviously the answer is always "no," but we're going to try to record the book we did together, "From Tundra to Tiara." We have a lot of decisions to make, and we've already made a few, but we're excited about this adventure. We explain in the podcast how we made the decision, along with why we're doing some things and not others. If you want to check out FTTT, here's the link to our bookstore and the platforms:Our two latest releases are on our bookstore and the platforms, starting for "#HauntSeason," the sequel to "#PassionRestored."The most recent entry in the "Salvation Universe" is "Defying Salvation," the sequel to "Finding Salvation."Please consider voting for us as “America’s Favorite Couple,” and maybe donate a little pocket change to the two worthy charities connected to this contest. I Want to Write a Book
Today's podcast is not pointed at the writers in this picture. Whenever we do book events, inevitably someone will approach the table to talk about writing their own book, almost like they're seeking permission. We get it: writing can be intimidating. If you want to write a book and are wondering how to fill that big white screen with words, then this podcast is for you. CC and I give you advice on how to get started, and trust us when we say this: it's not too late in your life to write. Listen to what we say, then dive right in. The water is fine. Please consider voting for us as “America’s Favorite Couple,” and maybe donate a little pocket change to the two worthy charities connected to this contest. We’ve gotten quite a bit of local exposure from this contest and we hope to keep that going.Cassidy successfully launched her latest book “Haunt Season,” the sequel to “Passion Restored.” Please check out both of her books. My next book, “Defying Salvation,” will be released on my birthday, July 24, and we’re having a book release party at Bub’s Bookstore in Carson City on that day at 5:30pm. Stop on by. Pizza may be involved. You can also preorder the book. Please preorder the book. 🥺Appearances:– July 19: CC will be reading to the residents at Atria Summit Ridge.- July 24: Bub's Bookstore at 5:30pm.– August 25: CC will be doing an author talk at the Churchill County Library.– September 19: We will be at Reno Pagan Pride Project at Idlewild Park.– October: many events. Junk Drawer
Welcome to another fabulous episode of the “CC&JT Amateur Hour” where “production values go to die," and that theme was front and center for today's podcast as we were all over the map. Let's get down to it.Please consider voting for us as "America's Favorite Couple," and maybe donate a little pocket change for the two worthy charities connected to this contest. We've gotten quite a bit of local exposure from this contest and we hope to keep that going.Cassidy successfully launched her latest book "Haunt Season," the sequel to "Passion Restored," though there have been bumps in the road. Long story short: Amazon. We talk about those challenges, but more importantly, we encourage you to check out both of those books. My next book, "Defying Salvation," will be released on my birthday, July 24, and we're having a book release party at Bub's Bookstore in Carson City on that day at 5:30pm. Stop on by. More details to come. (Also: Hi, Teri!)I had the privilege of reading "A Sheriff in Nevada" to the residents of Atria Summit Ridge in Reno, Nevada, and answering their excellent questions about our books and writing in general. We encourage writers and everyone to reach out to these communities. Your presence is a gift, trust me.We participated in Hollow and Quill's Author Day where we got to meet many of our fellow local authors. They have a really sweet setup for our reading community. We spent some time in today's podcast about the economic reality of setting up a booth and doing book signings. They're always fun and a bit of an adventure (hello, SAF Bookfest), and the best part is meeting with fans and folks interested in reading our books. That "economic reality" part is we rarely break even in the pocketbook after booth fees, travel, printing the books, food, and buying books off our fellow writers at these events. But we also rarely regret going because we have fun, and it is always a joy to meet fans and readers.More appearances:– July 18: We will be back at the Reno Public Market.– July 19: CC will be reading to the residents at Atria Summit Ridge.– August 25: CC will be doing an author talk at the Churchill County Library.– September 19: We will be at Reno Pagan Pride Project at Idlewild Park.– October: many events. More information as we get closer.Speaking of fans, we spend a minute or two talking about one of the best gifts we've ever received from a fan. Good morning, Jennifer! We tried to wrap things up talking about libraries. Please reach out to your local library and request that they carry our books. You can read our books for free through Hoopla or Libby (Overdrive), but the libraries need to know you're interested. And we love Free Little Libraries! I did a tour of Carson City libraries and dropped of "Hope Knocks Twice." If you're in Carson City, grab your copy.A reminder: If you are adverse to big box websites (*cough* Amazon), we have a handy little online bookstore of our own. Priya Hutner
Memoirs are experiencing a significant surge in popularity. But what makes a memoir resonate with readers? “The CC & JT Amateur Hour” sits down with Priya Hutner, a community leader and author of the award-winning memoir "Chasing Nirvana: A Seeker’s Story of Love, Loss, and Liberation." She shares her unique insights into the art of memoir writing and the personal journey that shaped her narrative. Together, we explore the themes of her memoir, the writing process, and the lessons learned along the way.Priya views her memoir not only as a spiritual adventure but also as a cautionary tale for those seeking guidance in unconventional communities. The writing process required Priya to confront this past, excavating painful memories and emotions. She describes sending early chapters to friends for feedback, which helped her recognize the depth of her feelings formed during these years, and she learned the importance of telling her story authentically."Chasing Nirvana," is not just a personal account; it’s a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. In the world of fantasy literature, the blend of traditional storytelling with modern elements can create captivating narratives that resonate with readers. T.C. Ross, a native Texan and fantasy author, exemplifies this unique approach in her latest work, which draws inspiration from folklore and historical events. In our podcast, we'll delve into T.C. Ross's writing journey, her influences, and the innovative techniques she employs to craft her stories. Her writing is heavily influenced by folklore and mythology, which she weaves into her narratives. Growing up, she was captivated by tall tales and mythologies from various cultures, which inspired her storytelling approach. T.C. cites C.S. Lewis as a primary influence, noting how Lewis adeptly connected ancient myths to contemporary storytelling. This seamless integration of traditional tales within modern narratives helped Ross understand the potential of fantasy literature. Want to learn about the role of mythology in modern storytelling? Reading Chapter One
Good day from the Worldwide Headquarters of the "CC&JT Amateur Hour" where "Production Values Go To Die." Today's podcast is the usual polyglot of subjects and happenings, notably about our outing to the Churchill County Library in Fallon, Nevada. Thank you to Magdalena and her great team for inviting us. We answered questions about our books, and I read chapter one of "A Sheriff of Nevada," and we had a great time! Here's CC's video of the big dork in the above picture talking about writing. Be kind.Speaking of "chapter one": In this podcast, I read chapter one from the draft of my latest SciFi novel that has neither a name or a cover, but those small details did not deter me. I believe in this book and will be marketing it to traditional publishers after creative editor Teri and the Betas are done tearing it apart. I answered CC's important question: what about this book had me feverishly finishing the first draft of 111K words in less than sixty days? The answer may surprise you, especially if you're a woman.Appearances:– I’m at Comma Coffee two or three times a week. Stop by and say hi.– June 6: We’re setting up a booth at the Sierra Arts Foundation Bookfest.– June 12: We will be meeting and greeting at Bub’s Bookstore‘s grand opening!– June 13: We will have a table at Nevada Pride via the Brewery Arts Center.– July 18: We may be back at the Reno Public Market.– August 25: CC will be doing an author talk at the Churchill County Library.– October: many events. Traditional Publishing
I finished writing another book. That's not news or a surprise because CC and I are a pair of passionate paragraph producers, but this particular first draft took over my life for two months. The editing phase will do the same, but I'm good with that. I believe in this book so hard, I am going to market to the smaller, traditional publishing companies. Traditional published has it pluses and minuses, many of which I will learn first-hand as I submit the manuscript for review.
