The role of women in the church is controversial and complicated. So when I bumped into the work of local New Testament scholar and professor, Dr. Nijay Gupta, I was curious to hear his thoughts on why he believes in women in ministry leadership. Nijay is a rare blend of incredibly well-read and well-spoken. He addresses the biblical, linguistic and cultural elements of the argument in a peaceful and approachable manner. On this episode, I’m talking with Kevin McCarthy, entrepreneur, author of the book, Blindspots, public speaker, and convicted felon of a crime he didn’t knowingly commit. Kevin’s story is so fascinating, and we spend the first half of time together talking about how his blindspots led to decisions that would land him in prison. But Kevin is also a gifted public speaker and the past president of the Oregon chapter of the National Speaker’s Association, so we talk about the craft of presenting ideas in front of a group, how and how much to practice, what to do with hands, and how to get better each time you speak. Kevin’s insights are so practical for everyone, and especially the leader looking to communicate clearly.
