The passing of MF Doom, one of rap's greatest legends, was announced last week. Brian and I grew up in Brooklyn together. We went to the same school as the Beastie Boys, walked down the same streets, ate at the same bagel spots, and wrecked havoc at the same subway stations. Today Brian and I explore how the Beastie Boys were rivaled by none in reflecting the coalescence of cultural and environmental factors in New York in the 80's, while also discussing how walking through our childhood's in their literal footsteps gave us exceptional perspective for loving their music.
