Angela "Angy" Abreu is a Dominican-American mom, writer andcommunity organizer. Angy firmly believes that “if it does notexist then you must create it.” As a poet and community organizer,in 2014 she co-founded Wordat4F,Where Community ActivismMeets the Arts”,a grassroots traveling open mic series thatcultivated a love of spoken word, poetry and literature in theUptown (Washington Heights, Inwood & Bronx) communities ofNew York City. Wordat4F began as an open mic series requestedand hosted in secret locations and later made a home in Apt78, alocal community hub. Wordat4F participated in Sankofa“Slamnesty: Activism through storytelling” and hosted the firstever Poetry Slam Competition in Washington Heights. In 2015, feeling dismissed as a Dominican American writer in many literary spaces, she decided to createthe Dominican Writers Association a 501 c3 non-profit organization solely dedicated tohighlighting content that not only promotes the works of Dominican Writers but also providesthem with the tools and resources necessary for their development.
