We approach this week's Killersode with struggles and tears. It involves the killings of four beautiful African American girls in church during the1963 infamous church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama perpetrated by cowards. We jump into racism in its most wicked form. Shattered was a place for worship, celebration, activism, and being seen. Loss of childhood innocence and carnage becomes the order or day. How does the search for progress bring out such vile, cruel intentions? Looks like ripping worlds apart births moments of stronger opposition. A search for understanding shows we're still not there yet. Racism continues to plague. In the quest for united states, it seems we are still divided we fall. Discomfort needs to become the order of our day. We sit still clamoring for justice. Our rage is reignited yet again. When will we as a nation start to reach for understanding of what's beneath our skin is what keeps us whole as a collective.  Our tears flow for justice. Are we ever going to wake up and decide we all matter...that there's beauty in our differences?  Life and the pursuit of happiness is a possibility for us all. Well, if we decide or choose that we want it. 

We finally get it right straight out the gate. We're kickin' it this week with Chris of Pretty Gritty Tours. He's starts with his nomadic origins. How should we maneuver life? Apparently through dad jokes. His journey heads out to sea, before he makes many a continental shift where he trades the lonely seas for romantic Mt. Kilimanjaro. Little foray in serial killer speak and he finds a wife - SHOUT OUT TO TAWNY!! We get philosophic about the grit Tacoma has to offer, no Seattle love in the moment. We're BAAAACKK!! Been away a minute, and it's NERD ALERT time. With our return we've got Grant Colombini of Excuse The Intermission Podcast. One of the reasons behind how we're currently chattering the way we chatter. Talk immediately turns to  accents and road rage. Do they make it better...no it's road rage. Our nerdiassance into Star Wars begins with an understanding that nerds have come to the front of the line. He looks at older brother love and appreciation, and a youngling's confusion of their decades. We get into rebellion for rebellions sake, what happens while you're waiting to exhale...MAGIC apparently! He captivates us with his genius love of storytelling. Can redemption be found in sharing one's soul?  Since he's a genius we say yes and RPatz is the ultimate rabbit hole.

Better late then never...so much stuff going on. With that comes this Killersode. This killersode involves the heinous prison murder of Darren Rainey.  Our anger grows over the collective abuse and neglect at Dade Correctional Facility TCU in South Florida.   Does incarceration breed necessity for inhumanity? Who's minding the keepers of human life and the keys? Turns out no one. We wonder how those charged with care choose their jobs over the most vulnerable inmates. Prison is supposed to rehabilitative, not deadly. It seems time and time again our system of policing falls short. Which leads into our social justice subject of the US prison system. We know not all law enforcement officers and officials are incapable of doing their jobs, yet it only takes one create to wreak chaos and havoc. Protect and serves seems to become secrets and fear for so many. Does damage created in the name of public safety keep us safe at all? Today's Killersode involves the murder surrounding Brandon Teena. What does it take to be seen? We discuss the origins of Brandon Teena's life.  As we try to live our lives open an honest, is it our truth that matters, or whatever society thinks? When we love, is it our hearts that matter most? We're frustrated again as we see police fall down on the job. Looking at Brandon's life, we see the violation of his life both when alive and in death. We wonder will we ever see a world fully accepting of a person's truth. Education and love are the key to embracing humanity. Before the Oscars "incident" we get into the AMPAS (aka Academy Awards people) and why the Oscars suck...yeah we're not impressed. This week's social justice issue revolves around the mistreatment through laws, abuse, and murder of transgendered persons, most often transgender women. As time marches on, we see that turning back time is the order of today's society in certain parts of our country.  Does the damage to peoples identities make life safer for the whole in lieu of safety for the individual? Our Coversode comes in late this week, but our  Dave Orton makes it worth the wait. It starts from a reset place...audio be damned. He talks boredom of life, old cars used for racing, origins of talent and how it often doesn't fall far from the tree. We talk drugs (meaning weed), do the affects make you stupid (nah), but the discovery of how it's not a bad thing to bring out artistry.  He dives into how bassists are underrated, what we're willing to sacrifice for passion...money may not be everything, record deals can suck, safety doesn't allow for creativity, but canned creation can stunt the process.
