Viv Mabuni is on the podcast today, and she’s telling us all about her new book “Open Hands Willing Heart: Discovering the Joy of Saying Yes to God“!!! Viv draws on the example of biblical heroes, particularly Esther, to share life-giving wisdom about what it looks like to surrender all in the midst of uncertainty and fear. As she explains, “When our hearts are surrendered to Him and aligned with His will, we draw closer to Him in a way that unleashes His grand purposes for our lives.”
Viv is a wife, mom, speaker, writer, bible teacher, and she has 30 years ministry experience on staff for Cru. Yep, all that AND she’s starting her own podcast here soon (be sure to listen in to hear all about it). She’s also written for She Reads Truth and has spoken at the IF:Gathering conference in Texas. It’s fair to say sweet Viv is keeping those hands of hers open to serve and love in Jesus’ name.
On top of all that, Viv also just so happens to be one of the most kind-hearted, open and genuine Christian leaders I’ve ever met. She’s definitely someone to follow; an important and needed voice in our generation. Her unique perspective as an Asian American woman speaking and pressing into our Christian circles is something you don’t want to miss out on. I hope you tune in and make sure you go buy her book!

Be sure to check out the By Design Podcast pinterest board to see all the fun ideas. I’m really pretty specific about what I pin too, making sure to include only options that are design worthy. Let’s just say there are TONS of diys out there, and not all of them are ones I’d recommend to grace your home 😉

A new episode is here guys! Today I’m giving a little back story on where the podcast has been since it’s been m.i.a for a few months now. I also dig in to scripture and share a story about how God is always with us, even when we’re feeling lost in the space in between where we’ve been and where we’re headed.
We also chat IF:Dallas from this year and I share how that has impacted me.

Hey friends! We have SHANNAN MARTIN on the podcast today! Ya’ll know how much we love her. Shannan’s new book “The Ministry of Ordinary Places” is out in the world so of course we had to get this gal on the show.
We chat about Goodwill, the underground code of smoking, and Shannan’s mug obsession. We get serious too, and she gives us a glimpse of what it looks like to do ministry right smack in the middle of ordinary. She’s pretty dang inspiring. We’re hoping you listen in and join us in jumping our own back yard fences and loving on the people within arms reach.

In episode #86 we’re talking with author Heather Holleman about her new book Chosen for Christ: Stepping Into The Life You’ve Been Missing. And you guys, we could not be more excited!!!
Heather is our people. She is passionate about God’s word, and it’s a wonder to listen to her rattle off scripture and connect the truth of our big God to the here and now of our small todays.
We chat about the concept of being CHOSEN. Heather brings it to life in a new way for us and shares how we were chosen by an extraordinary God to live an extraordinary life.
We hope you listen in, buy her book and find more of God and all He has for you as His chosen, beloved child.
More about Heather:
Heather Holleman, PhD, is a popular speaker, author, and college instructor. She is a faculty member of Penn State’s English Department and teaches both freshman composition and advanced writing. Heather studied shame and narcissism for her doctoral work in English literature.
Along with teaching, Heather serves on the staff of Faculty Commons with Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ) and helps direct the graduate student ministry at Penn State. She has received numerous teaching awards and her teaching philosophy finds its roots inwhat it means to be “seated at the table.”
She’s obsessed with vivid verbs like grapple, fritter, and effervesce. She also greatly admires the semicolon; it is the most beautiful and misunderstood punctuation mark, she says. In addition to teaching, she loves writing books, encouraging teachers, reflecting on spiritual principles in everyday life, petting her cats, walking with her neighbors, lighting candles, reading grammar books, watching movies and any television show with singing and dancing in it, entertaining, eating leftover Chinese food, and blogging. Her favorite Psalm is Psalm 16, and her three favorite Bible verses are Galatians 2:20, Ephesians 2:6, and Deuteronomy 31:6.
In addition to her full speaking schedule, Heather writes daily inspirational material that reaches thousands through social media on her blog, Live with Flair, and is slowing making her way through seminary classes in the summers.
Heather lives in Pennsylvania with her husband, Ashley, and their two daughters.

In this episode we talk about cultivating rhythms in daily life so that we can grow spiritually. We chat about creating space for God in our lives, the struggle to get there, and how to set ourselves up to win.
Lyn also shares about training for a recent marathon (a literal one!). We talk about the planning and effort it takes to succeed and reach our personal goals and the obvious need we have for a little more of that in our spiritual lives.

Episode #84 is all about the dance we do in front of the mirror. We talk about body image and that inner struggle we all seem to have trying to find adequate coverings for our souls. We share a few personal stories, discuss lots of scripture, and do our best to get to the heart of the issue.
Lyndsye also pipes in at the end to chat design, sharing a 4 floor condo project she just completed.
