The Building Charleston podcast takes a moment each week to meet the leaders changing the landscape of Charleston, SC with host Matt Chapdelaine from Laine Commercial Real Estate. This week’ s topic focuses on one of the fastest growing industries in the country. According to Wikipedia “The Hemp Farming Act of 2018 was a proposed law to remove hemp (defined as cannabis with less than 0.3% THC) from Schedule I controlled substances and making it an ordinary agricultural commodity. Its provisions were incorporated in the 2018 United States farm bill that became law on December 20, 2018.” Most of you know probably know hemp as the plant that is used to create CBD oil, but as you'll find out in this episode it’s so much more than that in Charleston, SC. This episode's guest’s are Matt Gwynn from The Holi Leaf - a CBD store in West Ashley & Artie Perry, an independent Hemp Industry Advisor in Charleston, SC.

You may have asked yourself at some point - "how do you make money posting things on Instagram?" Most of us post pictures and comments and get some likes but no one ever asks to send us money to post about their product.. At the same time you hear how this person or that person makes money as an Instagram influencer. This episode dives into one Sarah Pledger's story about how she's making money as an Instagram influencer in the lowcountry. In this episode hear what it takes to grow a social media following worthy of a pay check, learn just how big the Instagram Influencer industry is worth, and hear Sarah's unique vision for the lowcountry as the region continues to grow.

The Building Charleston podcast takes a moment each week to meet the leaders changing the landscape of Charleston, SC with host Matt Chapdelaine from Laine Commercial Real Estate. Building a strong technology foundation is a priority for every modern city in the United States. In order to grow that foundation, a city needs a couple of key ingredients. First, that city needs the talent to identify opportunities where technology can be used. Next it needs competent entrepreneurs who can found a company and guide a company from idea to reality. Finally, a modern and growing city needs to provide the resources - both monetary & guidance - to ensure a young company has what it takes to succeed. Charleston, SC is no different. Charleston is fostering young technology companies and providing them the resources to grow.
This episode is focused on the growing technology companies in charleston, and the people who are investing in them. In this episode you will hear from guest AJ Richichi from Sentio, a venture back technology company in Charleston, SC - and Eric Thome from VentureSouth, a venture capital platform investing in companies in the south. We take a deep dive into what it's like to start a technology company in Charleston, what it's like to raise venture capital in the south - and how technology & venture capital communities are impacting Charleston's future.
