The WNBA's Collective Bargaining Agreement contains one sentence governing player eligibility:"Only players who are women are eligible to play in the WNBA."What it doesn't contain is a definition of the word "woman."Eight days before this episode was written, former NBA players Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White announced they intended to declare for the 2027 WNBA Draft, arguing they were applying the league's written rules exactly as they appear. The league's response has raised a much larger question: what happens when a rule depends on a definition that isn't actually written down?
