Brain Farts Podcast

Brain Farts

Angelena Roan
Chats, banter and stories with family & friends sharing our opinions and perspectives on pretty much everything in life; from friendships to failures and successes, to business and health and even travel and smashing societal norms. You might hear feature episodes with my parents telling their stories about escaping war or stories about my grandma surviving prison. Sometimes you might even hear from young people doing epic things in the world and pushing every boundary and stereotype to get there. Really, there is only one agenda... and that is there is no agenda. Real, raw, honest and completely unsolicited and unqualified opinions but valuable nonetheless. Boom.
EPISODE 5 feat. my dad (PART 1) - how he found himself in prison at 15 years old and his insanely brave teenage years
This is part 1 of who knows how many of my dad's life story up until now. Nothing was going our way today with only one mic recording, recorders not charged, SD cards being too new and the fact that dad likes to sit 100m away from the microphone (hence the white noise) but it's a story that I didn't even know about and a totally thrilling one! He went from having SOMETHING to having absolutely nothing... and then when he thought he'd hit rock bottom, he found himself entering the core of the earth because the crust was just not 'rock bottom' enough. My dad lost his dad at 9, accepted into a high-performing high school by 12, in prison at 15 and then having to choose between life and death by the age of 21... and that's just the beginning! Stop reading and just listen, you'll love it. About Brain Fart (with Ang and friends) Through this podcast I hope to share all my thoughts and ruminations, learnings and losses and views and opinions on all the things that I have created, experienced, achieved and FAILED in my 22 years of living- alongside some of the most epic people that I have met along the way. Take my unsolicited and unqualified words with a grain of salt, but I challenge you to be open to change, new perspectives and a greater desire to live out YOUR best life. For all the young people out there trying to find their place, trying to write their own path, trying to just prove to the world that their ideas and knowledge is worth listening to, this is for you. I hope this podcast inspires you to go out and do what it is that you've always wanted to do because us youngsters have the brains to change the freaking world. From yours truly, me. EPISODE 4 feat. Sarah Holloway- how we manage our time and a week on a plate for us! PLUS bonus insight on Sarah's bad running bowels.
Today we cover how we both time manage with (almost) full-time placement, owning/running different 5 businesses, and tonnes of co-curricular activities (VFL for me, naps for Sarah), between the two of us. How strategies are VERY different so we take you through them both. We also take you briefly through our week on plate with some nuggets of absolute random banter between, as per usual. For those who don't already know Sarah Holloway, she is a one-of-a-kind lawyer turned entrepreneur who gave up her financially stable and highly successful career as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer to sell a green powder online (it's not what you think, this is a PG podcast). Sarah CO-FOUND the global matcha business, Matcha Maiden, in 2014, and then infamous vegan cafe, Matcha Mylkbar, in 2015. In addition to co-founding these 2 businesses, she also is the founder of her own brand Spoonful of Sarah and podcast Seize The Yay. To top it all off, she is a speaker, a fiance, a daughter, a mentor and my best friend. Yes she does sleep, yes she is incredibly hard-working, no it didn't all land on her lap, yes she has a lot on her plate and no, I still haven't figured out how she does it all. EPISODE 3 feat. my mum- how she escaped the Vietnam war in a boat.
This is my mum. She epitomises resilience and sacrifice. She is strong, strong-minded (almost too much sometimes), fierce and incredibly brave. For someone so tiny, small, weak (like she is definitely not 'swole') and seemingly fragile, she is one of the strongest people I know. She is 1000% Vietnam's Mariah Carey in her #diva attire and jewellery choices but I wouldn't have it any other way. She cares for her appearance and is very well manicured (clearly didn't translate to any of us) and it all becomes very clear to me in this episode as to why that is. Mum shares, with full transparency, her childhood, upbringing and how the Vietnam war shaped most of her memories. She talks in detail about how she escaped the war and the logistics of how it all happened. She is an incredible woman. Enjoy! PS. English is her second language, so be kind. PPS. Do yourself a favour today and ask your parents a question about their childhood- you'll learn something new, I promise. EPISODE 2 feat. Nic Davidson - the worlds greatest fakers.
Nic Davidson aka @niccyboy aka founder of Bushy Creative, co-founder of Matcha Maiden and Matcha Mylkbar, fiance of Sarah Holloway (from episode 1), ex-elite athlete, tech and gym junkie and one of the greatest people I have ever met, and I sit down for chats. Find out about his incredible path to where he is now and all the things he's achieved along the way. We discuss how Nic is an all-time nerd, what we think about university degrees, coding and tech and being a role model for young kids. You will also be graced by fart chats and Nic's interpretation of a cow sound... yep. I was able break through the social facade, that is Nic's #fitness #gym #fitspo social media presence, to bring out a raw, honest and real Nic- one that I think will surprise most people! He's one of my greatest friends and someone that I think is worth getting to know properly. I hope you enjoy yet again another intro into one of my friends, @niccyboy - someone who will be on regularly to discuss much bigger and better things (honesty best policy).
