Should You Spend $80 on This Bourbon? | Rabbit Hole Dareinger Review
Welcome to Bourbon 'N BS! Hosts Mike, Black, and Mook share some of the finest Bourbon available and talk about life, relationships, and other BS we experience on a daily basis. Tune in each week to learn about a new bourbon you might not have had on your radar, and of course chat some BS with the crew! In episode five of the Bourbon and BS podcast, the hosts discuss technology and review Rabbit Hole Dareinger bourbon. The hosts praise Rabbit Hole for its modern facility and picturesque bottles. They note that the Sherry casking adds subtle notes of dried raisins, dark currant, and bitter chocolate that complement the natural sweet caramel bourbon. However, they acknowledge that at the $80 to $90 price point, Rabbit Hole faces stiff competition from other winecast-finished bourbons like Thomas S Moore and Angels Envy. The hosts also introduce the concept of toasting whiskey to bring out its flavors and aromas. They find it smooth and light, with a pleasant cherry flavor. Overall, while the Derringer may not be worth the price for everyone, the hosts recommend trying it and appreciate Rabbit Hole's impressive distilling and aging process. Vegas Heat & Sweet Sippin': Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered Bourbon Reviewed!
The hosts of the Bourbon 'N BS podcast are back with a review of the Smoke Wagon Uncut Unfiltered bourbon. The bourbon is from Las Vegas and is barrelled and aged in the hot, dry climate of the city. Smoke Wagon uses a lighter char and more toast on their barrels, creating a sweeter, caramelly flavor. The high rye content does not add much spiciness to the bourbon. The small batch version consistently delivers good flavor, while the uncut, unfiltered version can vary by batch. The hosts recommend adding a few drops of water to open up the flavor notes. They describe the bourbon as a cleaner, less sweet version of Buffalo Trace, with a higher proof. The price point is competitive and the bourbon is a good option for those looking for a sweeter, party drink. In this episode, the hosts start by discussing the history and unique aging process of the Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon, which was created by Elmer T Lee in 1984 to pay homage to Colonel Albert Blandon, the master distiller of the early progenitor to Buffalo Trace. The bourbon is aged in the all-metal Warehouse H, which was built in the 1930s or 40s, and is known for its smooth, luxurious, and relatively low-proof flavor profile. The hosts enjoy the bourbon, which they describe as a good starter bourbon and a good weekend drink. They also mention the popularity of Blanton's, which has a secondary market price of $120 and is often collected for its bottle tops that spell out "BLANTON'S."
