In this episode we are joined by another TAB teacher: Jen Rankey
Jen Rankey (she, her, hers): Jen serves as the Director of Visual Art at Trinity Episcopal School in Charlotte, NC. This has given her the opportunity to teach kindergarten through 8th grade students while advocating for the preservation of the arts within independent schools over the past 20 years. Although choice and student voice has always been a part of her practice, Jen officially embraced TAB seven years ago with a curriculum based upon the pillars of Teacher for Artistic Behaviors: What do artists do? The child is the artist. The classroom is the child’s studio. This is accomplished with an offering of abundant choice wrapped around strong studio and artistic habits. Additionally, Jen served on the National Art Education Association's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Task Force. Creating an equitable and diverse world that includes a variety of voices has become a driving force in Jen’s work both inside and out of the art room.

Hello, and welcome to the Blocks Paper Scissors Podcast #30.
Today we have a special guest with us. Jean Barnett is an amazing High School TAB teacher in Central Texas. She has been teaching for 17 years, at the same school, with more than 12 of those years as a TAB teacher. She currently is teaching Art 1, Art 3, and runs her school’s ceramics program. When Jean is not teaching her students how to think and behave like artists, she is teaching other art teachers all about TAB as the secondary cohort leader at the TAB Institute."

During this years TABstock, we were blessed to have Kathy Douglas in attendance. I grabbed the opportunity to record, in her words, the genesis of TAB. It is a wonderful story told by one of the founders of TAB: Kathy Douglas.

In this episode, Clyde and Clark talk about the healing power of art. Why do kids seek out the art room when they are anxious? Why do certain behaviors disappear when children have the opportunity to work with their minds and their hands?
