Powerful, honest, insightful and often hilarious. I can’t say enough about the impact Dr. Gee’s words have had on my life.

i’ve been listening to Dr. Gee’s podcast since the spring of 2020. The range of topics, perspectives, and insights are invaluable and have provided much encouragement for me to strive to become a more effective ally. I appreciate the frankness of Dr. Gee and his guests and their willingness to share their vulnerabilities and experiences with those of us who have wittingly and unwittingly been insulated from such knowledge.

This podcast is a great resource for everyone, but especially for white would-be allies. Dr Gee’s honesty is brought with such generosity of spirit that if you are willing to drop your defenses and just listen, you can learn! The example in the last episode of white people stopping traffic to help a family of ducks cross the road was both absolutely hilarious and really insightful. Stop making excuses! Do the work.

Most episodes are serious with much needed information for us protected/sheltered whites, but I just listened to episode 13, a lighter side of black life episode. It was absolutely delightful to learn even more ways Black people are just as loving, joking, grieving and worrying people as white people! So many shared memories of growing up. Thank you Dr. Gee and others

Thoroughly enjoy this well curated podcast with such interesting guests. The host and team has done a phenomenal job creating a show that’s organically engaging and insightful. I love the candidness of the discussions and Dr. Gee’s ability to open the dialogue about much needed conversations.

Always appreciate Dr. Gee’s perspective. Think I’m going to have to sign up for the on line history class in Sept to become much more fluent than I am currently.

I’m a white, middle-aged woman who is committed to bringing racial justice and equity, etc. from the protests in the streets into action. Dr. Gee’s podcast has educated me about the real Black American history, helped me to see and understand systematic racism, caused me to look at my role in it and see how this inequity hurts whites too and clarified what a true ally is. As another exceptional man - Bryan Stevenson - has indicated, this work will be messy and uncomfortable and I will make mistakes. But in accordance with my values and beliefs, this is work well worth it. Also GET RID OF TYLER! He says many statements that show his ignorance. He is trying to show he’s woke. Even if it is unconscious bias the problem is there and it’s distracting. At least tell him to not talk so much. He’s annoying! !!!

Dr. Alex Gee challenges me to grow, reflect and work on myself in many ways, not just my own personal and constant journey of anti-racism. He has great guests and talks about issues not just involving race, but also mass incarceration, history, religion and faith, politics, community, health, gender, fatherhood, and even vegan food! I totally recommend this podcast and also to support his work on Patreon

This episode is absolutely disturbing!!!! I’m honestly dumbfounded by the audacity and recklessness of both Mr. Washington and Dr. Gee. This kid and yourself are going to create problems that will only exacerbate the very thing you think you’re somehow curing with “Radical” teaching and lectures to SECOND GRADERS!!!!

Every podcast brings me new insights and pushes me to do more, think more, be more. I particularly appreciate the wealth of local leaders in the black community who bring a reality check for white women like myself who have been hiding under the assumption that “we’re not like that here in Madison”. I am here, in my journey, I’m learning! Thank you!

His episodes leave me encouraged, challenged, and motivated to seek change in my community. If you want to understand the black experience in America better, or are looking for ways to be a better white ally, this is the podcast for you.

Dr. Gee is an amazing interviewer and communicator. I come away from each and every episode with new awareness, new perspective, and a deepened commitment to better myself and the world around me. I’m so grateful to him and his team for creating this ongoing opportunity for their listeners to learn and grow so we can together make a real difference in the world. Black Like Me holds up both joys and sorrows, hope and tragedy, and gives vision for the future and is truth telling about the past and present. Each guest brings a different gift to the world, and I am inspired to action as I continue to wipe away the grime of my white supremacy lenses. 10 stars!

No matter how much I study, I never fail to learn more from Dr. G. His perspectives always enlighten me.

Alex Gee comes up with brilliant perspectives that continually catch me off guard. The latest example is episode 107 of season four. Listen for his take on a caller’s story about a black nanny he had as a child named Helen. It was, to me, a heartwarming story by the caller. Dr. G‘s response surprised me, and then I realized how brilliant it was and how valuable it was for me to hear it. I encourage you to listen too...

I have been listening to Dr. Gee this summer, and just finished the re-drop of the Black History episode with Dr. Christy Clark-Pujara. Listening to Dr. Gee and Dr. Clark-Pujara talking about their shared trip to Ghana gave me chills. Dr. Gee brings insightful guests to discuss matters of race and culture. As a Christian whose faith has been in a series of deconstructions and reconstructions, I find Dr. Gee’s pastoral voice encouraging and helpful to rebuilding a faith that consciously makes space for anti-racism, justice work and addressing a range of challenging topics. Thank you, Dr. Gee and team for this important work! I am grateful.

Dr. Gee has opened my eyes, taken my hand, and led me forward in my understanding of what it truly means to be an ally to my Black brothers and sisters. I am still learning, and I look forward to more and more top-notch content from a skillful, thoughtful, powerful Black man—Dr. Gee.

I enjoy how Dr Gee is both brutally honest but also empathetic and compassionate. It’s a great combination. He’s great at interviewing guests, shows them respect and listens, and also has a lot to add. His knowledge is impressive and I always learn a lot on both a personal and societal level.

I learned about Dr. Gee's podcast a year ago at the start of my journey of understanding systemic racism and learning how to become an ally to my black brothers and sisters. This podcast is honest, encouraging, refreshing, and thought-provoking. I recommend it to everyone.

I feel I have learned so much at a head and a heart level from listening to Black Like Me! And what makes this podcast so unique is that Dr. Gee’s years of work as a community leader and advocate for social change bear fruit in so many ways. He has brought a wide range of guests and experts onto the podcast who address the wide range of topics that impact the state of racism in America. And Dr. Gee asks great questions of his guests to get to the heart of issues and drive their point home. But I’m also grateful for Dr. Gee’s voice on the episodes. It’s clear that his expertise on the effects of racism helps him articulate the experience of Black people and the unhelpful responses of White people in regard to racism. And that’s been so helpful for me as a white-passing person in my own anti-racism education. Dr. Gee has helped see the importance of recognizing the emotional burden that results from “practicing” anti-racism learning on Black people. And he’s helped challenge me to really be engaged and committed to justice for my Black brothers and sisters because he spells out the customary responses he’s experienced from White people and shows how they are unhelpful. The real talk on this podcast is a blessing and I’m thankful that Dr. Gee puts in so much effort to faithfully express the struggle, emotions and sentiment Black people experience. It allows people like me to be impacted at a heart-level and develop a foundation of empathy from which to advocate and act.

For those of you looking for “the Black perspective,” this is a wonderful addition. Dr. Gee does NOT hold back. I appreciate his honesty, labor, and truth, especially as a white person in Madison, WI (Dr. Gee’s current location). Very happy to be able to listen and learn from his wisdom.

Reverend Gee and his guests on this show are speaking the hard truths, and forcing us to confront the uncomfortable realities that too many of us are content to ignore. His words will make you laugh, make you curious, and make you cringe as you recognize yourself in his critiques of how our nation has forsaken it’s Black citizens, and continues to fail to address racial inequities. Listen up! Confront racism and white supremacy wherever you see it, including in yourself.

Dr. Gee consistently challenges his listeners to question their own views, biases, and actions (or inaction). Every episode is thought-provoking and can make you both empowered and uncomfortable. If you think you don’t need a podcast like this, then you definitely do (looking at all you Madison progressives, me included).

I just recently found my way to Dr. Gee’s podcast, and have been blown away. It’s been good (and at the same time, painful) to realize just how oblivious I have been to what it really means to be Black in this country. But through listening to Dr. Gee and his conversations with a wide range of guests, I am beginning to see past my white fog. There is goodwill here, and humor, and sharp intelligence. The humor and goodwill relieve the embarrassment and shame I experience when a pointed, perceptive comment highlights yet another of my blind spots. But I am so very grateful for Dr. Gee’s commitment to speak the truth in love, and will keep coming back for more.

I just listened to the episode where you mentioned there were no listeners from Montana—ha well I hope I cracked that door. This podcast is illuminating and educational. Every theme in every episode has impelled me to pursue further reading and research. I feel this has helped to better highlight the realities and changes we need to make throughout our society, as for myself as well. I love this podcast. As a new Madisonian, I appreciate how Dr. Gee interviews an array of guests who all share their unique perspectives on life. This podcast gives me the space to reflect on my faith and how to live a life that strives for social justice. It also challenges me to recognize the harsh reality of racism in our society. This podcast is an insightful look at current events through the eyes and experiences of Dr. Alex Gee. Dr. Gee captures the essence, the realities, the expectations and feelings of being an educated African-American male in today’s society. He does this through this own thoughtful observations and “rants” and through the most interesting guests that you won’t hear anywhere else. Dr. Gee’s journey to his African roots in Ghana and what he saw, heard, smelled, tasted and experienced is riveting. What was even more insightful are his later observations and impact this trip has had on him and his sister, Lil. I urge everyone, black, brown, white, to download this podcast.

Gee seamlessly brings light to darkness, provides thought-provoking, exciting and challenging topics, and he brings you along for the journey into his own vulnerability - for understanding & your own self discovery...I recommend this to anyone and everyone: who wants to understand life through the lenses of a black man and craves conversations that challenge, change and create a safe space for examining life’s greatest gifts and some of it’s hardest difficulties. Im loving it!

As a Christian, I don’t like when you put down people groups on your podcast based on their race. Jesus is in the business of reconciliation, no matter one’s race. You can’t fight racism with racism. It’s a beautiful thing to talk about culture; it’s a bad thing to stratify people based on race. In my opinion, what you say in this podcast is divisive and hypocritical.

I am a traveling business man that is constantly in the car seeking to listen to something that helps my mind grow each day. This podcast is really enlightening, these topics discussed really help with processing issues that pop-up day to day for a Black man living in Wisconsin, working in main stream White America.
