Episode 24: Expedition Gullah Part 1: Slavery in the Lowcountry
We are excited to introduce part of 1 of our first expedition! We will jump into our experience with the Gullah in part 2, but for part 1, we are going to learn about the background of the Gullah people, who are all descendants of slaves sold in America through the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade. This episode goes through the history of the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade in the Lowcountry of South Carolina, where the culture of the Gullah originated. Some content in this episode was challenging for the hosts to discuss, and will be difficult to hear, but we believe it is important to share history- even when it's difficult.
