Aaron Huey’s “What Parents need to know about Opioids” episode with Dr. Mel Phol absolutely hits home as I am a high school teacher. Let’s continue along the progressive path of finding the most professionally educated resources for solving the Opioid Issue. The resources are out there! They exist! Aaron is a person of integrity that finds those resources and looks to expose the truth to both inform and EDUCATE the masses. It’s evident that this #1 Parenting Podcast seeks answers to penetrate through problems that are both real and relevant. How does someone that has a bad injury (pins & needles) taking pain medication that is prescribed to him/her from a doctor turn into addiction? How does that lead to the extreme need for heroin? The brain reward which is getting high is also linked with relief of pain. After a while of taking an opioid, the human system NATURALLY develops a tolerance NO MATTER THE AGE, resulting in quick dependency. Next asked is there an emotional attachment? Opioids along with vulnerability (young underdeveloped minds) causes more development of addiction. There is an emotional connection, it relieves anxiety, fear, depression, etc. You’re going to want to listen to what Aaron says next. The MAN is REAL! AUTHENTICITY has POWER. Let’s evaluate as said in “BEYOND RICK & BACK” the COST and the PAYOFF of utilizing these. Are these beneficial resources or not? In 2012, I was (thankfully) MIS-Diagnosed with Lupus. I was given certain meds, including muscle relaxers. A friend assured me that if I was to take a muscle relaxer, to cut it in half and be sure I have the next day off from work. Upon waking up from the most restful, peaceful sleep in my life, I walked downstairs (almost 24 hrs later from ½ of the tablet) desiring to take another to experience that serenity once again. At that moment, I personally could relate to how EASY it is to become addicted to pain medication. The decision I made at that moment came from a place of never having to fight the battle of addiction. I immediately chose to throw the bottle in the trash. Aaron’s purpose, work ethic, experience and resources allow him to find powerful topics that are valuable to both listen to and discuss. As Mr. Huey does on SOO many levels, Pass This One Forward! It's WORTH IT!

This podcast is not only fun to listen to, but the topics provide real answers to everyday problems. Perfect for parents with children of all ages and also for people with no children, like myself. I’ve learned so much about various topics ranging from what sex trafficking really is and what the ordinary person can do about it to how to create a stable environment for children during this coronavirus scare to help them deal with a word of unknowns. Every single episode is captivating and short enough to listen at once.

Aaron is an excellent host, this podcast cuts through the stigma surrounding many of the topics he discusses and gets down the core issues. Wonderful show, always wanting more!

Aaron is a passionate and engaging host. He has forward thinking guests that are doing great things in the mental health and addiction recovery communities and beyond. My hope is that anyone that doesn’t know how to find support during their own or a family members recovery listens to these episodes and realizes that there are services out there. This is a fantastic place to dive into the stories of those who understand.
