Being vulnerable to healing
Thank you to Andrea for helping Jenifer so eloquently share her terrible experience and being vulnerable to share her story and all victims willing to share their story.

Vulnerable and Real
Bravo to those who were brave enough to share their stories!

Too many ads, short episodes, incomplete first episode
This could be good. Storytelling has an outline and leaving on a cliffhanger is fine, but you have to have somewhat of a cohesive narrative first before you cut it off abruptly. Ads make content possible, and I think listeners appreciate that. Ep 1 has so many ads in such a short episode, it really interrupts the flow. I would be more inclined to listen to a longer version (45-60) minutes with the same amount of ads. I feel like professional podcast producers can do better. I do like the story so far, but if all the episodes are dragged out like this with no resolution, I’ll be skipping this one.

ZERO accountability coming from the adults in this podcast
I’ve never heard so many adult women refuse to take personal responsibly for their own actions…and then they bring on “experts” to validate their lack of accountability. They are betraying themselves. Feelings of shame and guilt aren’t always wrong…if you feel shame and guilt maybe it’s because you should. You need to sit with those feelings, forgive yourself and move forward…but for these women it’s more like, let me try and justify my actions, put 100% of the blame on the sex addict, and then I’ll just slip myself in the same camp as the literal CHILD who was abused. It all gave me the ick.

It’s hard to listen to the condescending host
The way Jennifer talks to her husband’s victims is so condescending. Her words are so clearly fake and just for show. She should be just as ashamed of herself for re-terrorizing these victims.

Better editing and producing
A LOT OF ADS. An episode is about 30 min long with at least 7-10 min of ads throughout the episode. The bonus episodes would be better listened to after you listen to the whole story to understand. For example, in bonus episode 1 about episode 1, they reference episode 4 (I thought the bonus episode was about episode 1?) so it was hard to follow. Great true crime story and great for awareness, but could be edited better.

This should be titled:
UGH 😑 Okay, I’ll give you the fact that HE is a creepy bastard. Your phone interview with him made me feel sick. Obviously he hasn’t recognized what a deranged individual he is. He will be a repeat offender. I believe that EVERY woman /girl, has been sexually abused in some way, shape or form. I have been sexually harassed at EVERY job I’ve had. Lawyers, bankers, business managers and so on. Men are very good at luring women in. Especially if they’re feeling a bit insecure. Girls should be made aware of this by their mothers. No doubt!! One other thing, did one of the women who wrote you use the phrase: “sit with my feels”?? 🤢 If so, I have no words. Better luck next time trying to put out an intelligent podcast.

Informative, moving and well paced
This really worthwhile podcast tells the stories of different women and their families who discovered secrets about their spouses or fathers. It also has expert analysis and testimony by psychologist and those in law enforcement which made it very interesting. I had no idea this problem was epidemic and so it was deeply disturbing to learn about and how more needs to be done to root these perverts out and to lock them up.

Shameful
First of all, please stop referring to the predator as “Spence”. To say it’s insensitive to his victims to refer to him affectionately is an understatement. In addition, the hosts continue to call what he did “sexual assault”. He RAPED a child and he also raped Hope. I can’t listen further so those are the two I've noticed so far but please have the guts to be honest about the severity of what he has done. Lastly, I don’t know if it was poor editing or what but Jennifer’s conversation with Hope came across as anything but sympathetic. He preyed on Hope’s insecurities and led her into a relationship he made her think was consensual but was absolutely not. Then you went further to say you understand the band members side of the story! Because “they are a family”!? She IS a band member and they treated her like garbage by putting her through that. I really hope you try to do better but I won’t be sticking around to listen and find out.

It’s called child sexual abuse material - use the correct terminology from the get go, PLEASE
I appreciate that S2E4 delved into the issue and introduced the correct terminology BUT Seriously it is 2023. It is ridiculously simple to use the correct terminology from the very beginning - which producers should absolutely be committed to using when covering such sensitive material. “Child P*rn” is NOT A THING. It is Child Sexual Abuse Material. Every image and every video represents sexual violence against children. It is horrific to refer to it as, “pornography” at ANY Instance and the fact that multiple episodes aired before addressing the term is unforgivable. They even mentioned that “child p*rn” is media clickbait and failed to address their own use of the term over multiple episodes. Pot, meet kettle. Fix it.

ADS
Crazy amount of ads. Probably more ads than the episodes actual story
Ashhow92
So many ads
There’s a huge amount of ads in every episode and the bonus episodes so it’s hard to listen to. For the bonus episodes, I would add them to the end of the season unless they are a part of the main family’s story. It’s been hard to follow season 2 for this reason, for me.

Taking advantage of the victim
Loved season 1 until I learned Jenifer and team took advantage of Rachel who told them multiple times she did not want to appear on the Hulu series. She’s suing now and I hope she gets everything she’s asking for. Shame on all of you.

Excessive ads, host using an affectionate nickname for a PREDATOR
My heart goes out to the actual victim of Spencer Herron. Not only was she victimized by him as a child, Spencer’s wife (the podcast host), continues to victimize her as an adult. The SA victim has made it abundantly clear that she does not consent to her images and voice being used in any production beyond this podcast. And yet Jennifer Herron Faison violated that wish, repeatedly. No means no, Spencer. No means no, Jennifer. Also, Jennifer using an affectionate, cutesy nickname “Spence” is so gross. He is a predator. Say his name.

Yikes
The woman in episode 6 disgusts me. I was SCREAMING listening to her. She was a consenting adult- she can’t say “what happened to the underage girl is what happened to me,” and insinuating the girl should be embarrassed- that girl was an actual victim of a predator! You’re a woman the same age as him with a family and a husband who feels no remorse about having an affair and using these absolutely insane reasons to justify it. UGH it infuriated me

Season 2 is disturbing and sickening…
…but it also has a child who was victimized taking back control of her own story and telling it on her terms. It breaks my heart hearing what she went through but her strength and insight are what brought me to tears. Not an easy listen, but worth it to take the narrative out of that creep’s mouth and give voice to a young woman, if it’s what she wants!

Fantastic
Came here after watching on Hulu. It really is an unbelievable story. A man who seemed perfect was a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Turned from being a cheating, deceptive husband, to a child predator! For those who didn’t watch the show on Hulu or listen to the podcast, you really need to hear it in its totality before making any assumptions.
Christybikis
What couldve been.
This COULD have been a worthwhile listen. It isnt though. The ads are ridiculous. The wife is a complete bore. The man took advantage of a high school kid and thats the story, not the other lady who served with him. One is statutory RAPE, the other is an affair. These are not one in the same. Save yourself the listen.
DeeGram
produced horribly
Nothing to do with the actual victims of these stories but there are so so many ads in terrible time spots, and so much repetitive info. Did the team or host even listen to this before publishing it? No need for any bonus episodes at all. This poor story was made even worse because of the production.

Season 2 sent me spiraling
SPOILER… How in the world did this man only get sentenced to a year? A year that he didn’t even end up fully serving? Why is nobody on this podcast really talking about how insanely short this sentence is? I can’t……

Poor choice of words
I came here to listen before watching on Hulu. I’m stopping after three episodes. I almost stopped after two. I will not be watching on Hulu. This woman refers to her husband sexually assaulting a 15 year old as cheating on her. She literally says “I can’t believe he cheated on me” not “I can’t believe my husband assaulted a child.” She then just goes on about how her life is ruined with absolutely no concern or mention of the victim. I get that she suffered a fallout from all this, and there is absolutely a time to talk about it, but the second episode is not it. Beyond that, it just feels very “me me me” and from reading other reviews I don’t think her word choice improves.

Shame on them for promoting tobacco
I love the stories. They are heartbreaking and real and important stories to tell. The ads however, specifically for tobacco is concerning. There are so many other products they could advertise that are far less harmful. Really ashamed of them for sponsoring tobacco as an ad.

Edit
I love the podcast and it is very informative and has important content. There are several areas that content is repeated. I was a proof reader and cannot help myself! A listen through before releasing may prevent this situation. Not a critique just an FYI. Tina

Problematic
I really do not appreciate the interviews of Jason’s friends praising his character or the positive things the narrator has to say about him. At one point a friend of his says “he really cared about the kids” when discussing his work as a coach. This is absolutely appalling and should have been cut from the show. So many personal stories about Jason as a character and irrelevant details about his life and we true crime listeners are NOT here to hear about how nice the criminals are or their interests or their talents. We want to hear about the victims and the folks affected by them. Ethical true crime centers victims NOT the predators.

The music
Thought the story was compelling, but the music was used to excess. Too theatrical and distracting, I found myself focusing on that more than the content. Felt like an over produced reality show. Probably won’t listen to season two.

This guy should never get out of jail
He shows no remorse. Takes no accountability. Totally creepy narcissist. I also felt like Jen showed a lack of sympathy for the victim and Hope. It was also interesting how defensive her “friend” was, she did not come across as authentic or telling the truth. Not sure how I feel about it over all yet but I did listen to the whole show.
SmilingInCA_247
Hard to Follow
While I really enjoyed season, one, season two was very disjointed. The bonus episodes were totally different subjects, and once they were talking about Jason, having been released early, the next episode, talked about what his sentence would be. Jumped around and very disjointed. Difficult to follow, especially with the insertion of a totally different story.
Meashy92
So many ads!
The podcast is great but the ads are completely excessive. 3 minutes of ads every 10-15 minutes. At least 3 sets of ads per episode. You can fast forward over them but hard to do when driving.

Use of language needs to be more considerate
The premise of this podcast (season 1) is good. It’s an enticing story and keeps the listener engaged. However, I immediately noticed the use of the word “affair” to refer to the SA victim as opposed to what it was, which is SA. I also noticed when the podcasters began speaking about the victim and Jennifer said, “she’s the victim in all of this” and the producers responded with “so are you”. Yes Jennifer was also a victim but not to the same level as this high school student who was taken advantage of! Overall, they need to be more careful about the language used. But it really does exemplify how we see victims in our society.

Child Rape Is NOT An Affair
I just came across this podcast and am stunned that the true victim in this case (THE CHILD) is referred to as one of the many women the husband has an affair with. She is a victim, not a mistress. Disgusting. I will continue listening and hope that changes, because so far it sounds like victim blaming.

Thank you
Thank you for exploring this topic. It’s the first of its kind with amazing content. I really appreciate the 360 degree exploration of an all too common topic that is terribly under discussed. Thanks again!

Breezes over danger to kids of predators
The criminal predators in these stories have access to children, after they are known to sexualize and victimize children. All agree that the justice system is flawed. Read any legitimate published scientific resource about child predators and there is consensus that post-jail time, after therapy, etc. - they are not safe to be around children. These women say there is no manual, the podcasters also don’t raise this - but there are plenty of manuals and resources out there and these men should not have access to children, even their own children. Ever. This is never mentioned, and it’s implied that these people can learn to be safe around kids when that is not true like 99% of the time. Why not say this? My daughter was victimized by a family member and I appreciate how hard it is on everyone - including the victim - to lose family members they love. But I chose safety for my child and would have fought for that to the furthest extent possible. Sometimes the courts block your efforts and you have to live with supervision, I get that. But acknowledge what is the safest for these kids, which is no contact at all with known predators. I do appreciate you bringing the prevalence of this issue to light. My heart goes out to all the moms and kids, all are victims. It’s an awful, traumatic isolating journey.

Season 1 is great; season 2 is ok, way too many ads
Season 1 was great, though the ads were too frequent, long and abruptly interrupted the storytelling. Jen does a marvelous job inviting us into her story. Andrea is a well-spoken narrator. Season 2 was confusing; suddenly we’re talking about multiple stories without ever closing out the last one? Many times throughout the series it seems that bits and pieces are repeated. This is unnecessary considering the actual content per episode is already very short. Again with the ads in season 2. Hearing clips from therapist sessions and mini interviews with the author/therapist/trauma coach devalued the story for me. I’ve been through enough therapy in my life and I don’t want to hear their interpretation of attachment styles etc. I can see how that might be of interest for others, though.

Wow!
What amazingly courageous women sharing their stories. I’m torn between wanting to hug them tightly and wanting to strangle the sick men who did this horrible actions. How do we begin to fix our flawed system of “justice”?

Conflates crime against teen victim to adult affairs
Children cannot consent to x. They legally cannot. They are not in a safe position to be able to do so. This podcast groups a crime against a child victim with the experiences of adult women who were manipulated by a bad man. They are both bad - not to the same degree, and they are not the same AT ALL. This podcast has an entire episode “debunking” the man’s claims that he had a “consensual” relationship with a student - by giving the victim’s account, text messages, etc - they completely neglect to explain that none of this actually matters because she could not consent in any case as she was a minor and also he was in a position of authority. Stop speaking of teenaged girls like they are adults - they are not. Almost every woman I know - including me - started experiencing harassment from grown men before age 18, and this is part of the problem.

Good Podcast
Great content but I have to agree with others the Nicotine ads are too much
Christylee1976
Good content, but…
Overall the content was good and interesting. But the production value was lacking at times. Real/actual audio volume was so low, had to crank the sound, but then the narrator voice was booming. The adds popped in with no delay and typically after a tense/emotional moment; “…she was devastated when she found out. ‘Co-pilot is so great….’” Narrator voice lacked warmth throughout; Felt cold and at times, vindictive and disgusted. Understandably the content is difficult, but it did not feel like storytelling.
