This one is a little open-ended, but my latest mail day of a 2018 Topps Chrome UFC Autograph Daniel Cormier got me thinking about how I enjoy cycling through different collecting projects and how they tend to cycle through various “seasons” in my collecting journey.
So that seemed like as good a thing as any to discuss.
That said, do you have anything similar you do to keep collecting interesting for you? Do you cycle through different projects, play around with different sports, series or genres? Or do you take a break as your way of decompressing from “the hunt” that collecting can be if it becomes too regimented?

Is manufactured scarcity any better or worse than more natural or “organic” scarcity? What about condition scarcity? Where would that fall?
Starting with the sale of the 1933 Goudey Ruth a few days ago for over $4.2 million I take a look at these questions in contrast to the recent $5.9 million “valuation” of the Steph Curry RPA.
One of these items is a manufactured 1/1 and the other is a vintage icon that is a pop 1 in PSA 9 condition, does this make them the same, different, or even similar?
The main point of this discussion is that scarcity, by definition remains the same, regardless of how we arrive at it. The difference that we perceive come from our psychological makeup, biases, and desires.
I use a few examples to talk about how manufactured scarcity isn’t even a new idea as there were instances where items were scarce from the outset, at the behest of the manufacturer.
What do you think about scarcity? Does it make something more appealing to you? Does it drive you to seek out items that might not have interested you if they were more common?

For episode 2 I talk about Alt purchasing a 51% stake in a 2009-10 National Treasures 1/1 Rookie Logoman of Steph Curry for a $5.9 million valuation.
The description above is key as they did not pay $5.9 million, but rather 51% of that to account for their ownership stake.
I argue why I don't believe this to be a valid "sale" even if it can be a valid transaction or financial arrangement.
I also pitch for having a real distinction between record "sales" versus record valuations or other categories that fall under the fractional ownership model.

Episode 1 of an actual audio podcast for the Because I'm Carlos podcast feed.
These will be available on both the YouTube and podcast formats, downloadable on iTunes, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts.
In this episode, I discuss repacks and talk through why they are problematic, why they aren't necessarily evil incarnate as they are often portrayed and how I would try running one if I was to try to maximize the transparency on such an endeavor.
With that said I do recommend against them on the whole and suggest you take the utmost care if you are even considering them as they are gambling, plain and simple.
Let me know if there are other topics you'd like me to discuss and we can see about touching on those topics for future episodes.
