Excellent Podcast
I have been listening to this podcast since its inception. Every episode offers valuable insights that can help you to better navigate the world. Nate, Doug and Jen (in no particular order!) are brilliant, funny, authentic and compassionate.

Cannot get enough of this podcast
I’m constantly on the prowl for intellectual stimulation. I’m stuck here permanently. I listen to Dr Lisle and I know that he’s right. In addition, four major issues I’ve had have been resolved. Bonus! I WILL see him in a seminar live as soon as it is feasible.

Great, except
Lots of great insights into evopsych and practical advice. Could do with less paranoia about WEF

Wasn’t looking for politics
No thanks, sounded good from description but then they got into political opinions within first 5 minutes.

Fascinating, but a little creepy. Be careful.
When I first became aware of evolutionary psychology through Robert Wright’s book “The Moral Animal,” it was a game changer for me. It explained just about everything that had happened to me in my life up to that point. It especially rang true for all the boy-girl stuff. In its explanation of why men and women do the things they do, it all seemed to make perfect sense. The determinism and unfalsifiable claims in this system, however, makes me nervous. For those who tend towards thinking of everything in genetic terms, I think the lure towards eugenics becomes irresistible. It has happened before, and I see evidence that it is happening again. The authors of this podcast seem a little too glib and dismissive of this dark history and the possibility of its re-emergence.

Great advice and spot on political commentary
Love the show which provides great advice on real life situations. Evolutionary psychology explained very well! Also, their political commentary is spot on along with very insightful views on governmental overreach in the response to Covid!

Best Evolutionary Psychology podcast!
This is the best podcast I have run across for those looking for deep dives into all things evo. psych., especially as it relates to clinical applications of the field.

Great show, love *all* the discussions
It's refreshing to hear these informed, critical thinkers discuss political, social and psychological news and views. One has to go out of their way these days to find a different point of view, amidst the heavily censored, state sponsored MSM. I tell all my friends about this podcast. Longtime listener. Thank you!

Roe v Wade episode
Neither of you have enough basic knowledge of the content of the trigger laws that are going into effect in states across the south and midwest as a result of the overturning of Roe v. Wade to share a conversation that reflects reality and gives people accurate information. You have a responsibility to not rest on what you know from personal experience from some years ago and do current research of the facts on the Guttmacher Institute at least. No one can be an expert in everything, so if you don’t have the time, it’s better to have some humility and not speak as authorities. If you felt a responsibility to look into it, you would’ve run into the fact that state bans are attempting to criminalize traveling to other states and using or mailing the abortion pill. There are laws that empower people to sue those that assist women in getting abortions. Women are already being denied treatment in hospitals to evacuate their uteruses until they are more seriously ill even if they are miscarrying because their symptoms present the same as a self-induced abortion that’s not complete. They are bleeding out and in incredible pain. Some abortion funds have already stopped assisting women with funds to travel and access abortion because they fear being charged with a crime, including individual staff. You spoke of the draft decision that was leaked. A reading of it, or a reading of some analysis that quoted from it, makes it clear that the overturning of Roe at this time by the make-up of this court is motivated by a theocratic Christian ideology that an embryo or a fetus is a person who has rights that supercede a woman’s right to decide whether or not to carry a fetus to term, that the science of viability should no longer be a deciding factor. To say the overturn is based on correcting a procedural mistake by past justices is based on not paying attention to this issue in any depth - which Dr. Lisle admitted. I agree that what’s needed is a federal law restoring the legal right to abortion nationwide and the reason everyone should care deeply about this no matter where they live is because this ruling affects all women and girls and how they are viewed by society, as well as what role in society women will have—as property of the state when they are pregnant, as breeders and mothers of children or as full human beings who are able to participate in all spheres of society through education and careers.

BEST PODCAST THAT EXISTS
Definitely a life changing podcast, this has to be one of the best I've come across. Even though the content can be depressing and earth shattering, I couldn't stop listening if i tried. My views of reality are changed and there's no going back. Dr Lisle/Howk are 100 years and IQ points ahead of your average psychologist and they will literally pinpoint the root of all your life problems in one consultation (offered on their website). This podcast will teach you truths about reality that are nowhere else to be found.

Divisive but worth it for a while.
I really loved this show. The early episodes changed my life. I would suggest listening to the first 150, but once we reach the current moment it veers into territory that is unfortunately not my cup of tea. I don’t agree with their political conclusions and have a really hard time with it. But definitely listen for yourself and come to your own conclusion!

INCREDIBLY ENTERTAINING AND USEFUL!!!
Dr. Doug Lisle has a BRILLIANT mind. He explains the motivations and behaviors of humans from the perspective of evolutionary psychology. This analysis is both fascinating and useful to life. CAN’T GET ENOUGH!!!

Bitter Whining
This show would be good if they’d stick to evolutionary psychology & skip the bitter whining about politics. It’s distasteful.

I wait for their new episode every Wednesday
Dr. Lisle and Jen Howk know their stuff. Tremendously helpful advice as well as information that all coherently ties in together. Whenever I need any help or questions about something I always send it in!

Irresponsible
I used to like to listen despite the fact that the two doctors can be condescending (especially in their laughter at their listeners in certain instances). Recently however the amount of irresponsible misinformation being spouted about the pandemic and vaccines is ridiculous. I am all for hearing differing opinions, but the doctors say things that are just wrong and don’t acknowledge this. Real disappointment.

This show has gone off the rails
Evolutionary psychology is a fascinating subject. Unfortunately, this show has veered into politics, and surprisingly, to hard right views. Please steer the show back to non-political topics.

Mixed
I used to like and respect Dr Lisle until I heard his vaccine idiocy. His whole argument is based on falsehoods. He assumes the vaccine is 100% effective and that eight year olds can’t die of Covid. Even before Delta that wasn’t true. The evolutionary psychology is interesting but libertarianism is stupid.

Anti vaccine misinformation
If you’re looking to confirm your anti vaccine viewpoints, this is a good podcast for you.

Update June 2021: I can no longer stomach this show. The arrogance and support of unsubstantiated conspiracy theories is off the charts now. Lisle especially keeps claiming he knows stuff 100% and then gets proven wrong (eg. pandemic will be over in 2 weeks). They belong with Pam Popper and the other quacks. Very sad because I followed these guys for years and now I'm questioning many things I thought I learned from them and their associates. Too hard to separate the gold from the garbage. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ Dr. Lisle's book The Pleasure Trap and this podcast are some of the most helpful resources on discovering how to live healthy and happy. He answered one of my questions on a recent podcast which was super generous and helpful! Just a really great unique perspective on everything in life. Not politically correct at all but I can excuse a few things I don't agree with since there are so many nuggets of wisdom here. And he is super kind. Usually. :) And Nate does a great job hosting, asking follow up questions and commenting throughout the show.

Vaccine Passports and Libertarian principals
This is an amazing discussion about vaccination. I love the Libertarian viewpoint. I am not antivax but am amazed at the way people feel it is their business to ask me if I have been vaccinated. What happened to Healthcare Privacy? I have not been vaccinated yet and am not ready to do so. The drug industry has proven that they, and the government, are not to be trusted so I am still watching and learning what will be the best option for me, a 67 year old healthy plant based woman. We are on a slippery slope to government control of our personal lives. Thank you!

Valuable information abounds
One of my favorite podcasts and definitely my favorite on the topic of evolutionary psychology. I’ve listened to nearly all of the episodes and am going through them again the second time within a year.

Misinformation
Wow! These “docs” were way off base on their pandemic response and were guided by their political beliefs rather than the science they should have been following.

Is it mass hysteria?
Has the Coronavirus induced mass hysteria in 80 percent of the population? Does this public response (since the Coronavirus is like the seasonal flu in terms of fatality) fit the clinical definition?

Brilliant!
This is by far my fave podcast. Sharp and intellectually sound. Also quite entertaining.

I find that Dr. Lisle gives some cold unchristian but useful information. The addition of Dr. Howk added a small amount female insight and a tiny bit of warmth, however, I find them both arrogant & condescending. Their banter gives the appearance that they are trying to impress each other and heir inability to refrain from laughing at their listeners questions demonstrates their inability to beat their genes.

Revolutionary Thinking
Dr Lisle and Dr Howk provide the “source code” to understanding why we think what we think and do what we do and how we can “beat the genes” I’d reccomend this podcast to anyone and everyone!

Narrow approach, at times sexist
I finally have given up on this podcast after too many episodes in which Dr. Lisle missed (or purposefully ignored) opportunities to consider, or at least acknowledge, the impact of psychosocial factors on a person’s life and behavior. Given Dr. Lisle’s academic background I have no doubt that he is quite knowledgeable about the complicated interplay between our genetics, neurobiology, evolutionary motivations, and the cultures we live within, yet his inability or unwillingness to acknowledge this and discuss it on the podcast feels outright irresponsible.

Nutrition views unsupported
His nutrition view of calorie in calorie out fails to account for the effect of hormones and fat storage. He denies any EBP studies that support lower carbohydrates diets instead of merely watching calories. I seriously doubt this guys information!

Valuable useful info
Dr. Lisle is a warm yet candid Clinical Evolutionary Psychologist that helps guide people throw everyday issues no matter how seemingly simple or complex. Although I agree with mostly everything he says he definitely has gaps in knowledge and can’t always answer everyone’s question (which as a scientist is a good thing). So don’t go thinking that he has ALL the answers for everything. He’s at his best when he’s talking about human mating strategies, people’s idiosyncrasies, and of course: Esteem Dynamics (which is his baby). The only gripe I have about the show is it still sounds like it’s produced in someone’s garge. Nate (the host) talks to Dr. Lisle over the phone due to them living far away from one another. Still, I find myself turning this one way, way up in order to hear them compared to other better produced pods.

Interesting
A good podcast with a great deal of insight into human behavior. HOWEVER, I think that Dr. Lisle should stick to evo psych and leave his politics out of the equation. The idea of “beating your genes” and overcoming disadvantages evolutionary traits via top-down regulation and insight seems to me completely antithetical to the libertarian ideology to be which Dr. Lisle subscribes. A bit sexist at times, perhaps a bit oversimplified, but still great content.

It's a 10!
Funny, interesting, provocative, engaging--what isn't great about this podcast?!. If Beat Your Genes were a person it would be the fanciest human at the bar. Get ready to have your mind figuratively blown by Dr. Lisle's brutally honest but reliably scientific explanation of the human experience. Whether its about dating, dieting, telling off your father in law, or moving up the ladder at work, Dr. Lisle has a strategy to help you get ahead. New listeners may find some of the advice seemingly antiquated, but they will soon come to realize that Dr. Lisle brings us back to the basics of behavior with genetic/evolutionary explanations. You'll learn more about your own behavior and the behavior of those around you, as well as how to respond to your environment in ways that make life generally more pleasant, or at least more logical. Its best to start from the beginning and listen to the episodes in order to give yourself an understanding of the theories discussed, but my personal favorite episodes include #6, #7, #9, #43, #58,#76, #122 and many others. Listeners may also enjoy the works of Geoffrey Miller, Steven Pinker, Robert Sapolsky, Jordan Peterson, and others
