The last month has been characterised by soaring energy prices resulting from sanctions following the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Although it's made everyone acutely aware of the dependence on fossil fuel imports, it's made many really question our relationship with our energy providers, and whether there should be state intervention to manage this relationship. Why do energy firms still make profit while many households can't afford their new bills? In this episode, we speak to energy branding expert Dr Fridrik Larsen about the relationship between energy companies and their customers. Do they care what we think, or are they just out for profit devoid of purpose?

This week's episode of the Be Loud: Climate podcast is the first part of our interview with ActionAid NL policy advisor, Nils Mollema. At the time of the interview, a Dutch court had just ordered Royal Dutch Shell (the fossil fuel company) to cut their emissions by 45% by 2030 to bring it in line with Paris Agreement obligations. Nils and Keran discussed the importance of this judgment and how these sorts of cases will bring accountability in a just transition.
