BASS FORWARD THE REVOLUTION CAST #15 - Scary Woods For the fifteenth episode of our podcast we are excited to present the powerful sound of "Scary Woods", a duo formed by two of our resident DJs! "Scary Woods" is an electronic-experimental producer and DJ duo from Hamburg that has focused on drum and bass. This project, consisting of "Violet Core" and "Dr Woe", exists since 2014 and brings conscious drum and bass and destroyer basslines on display. The duo not only produces drum and bass but also downtempo tracks. Their deput EP "Pulse" was released in Septemer 2019 on "Insomnius Music" and reflects the different facets of their musical influences and abilities. Their latest single "Toxic Planet/Corruption" equally mirrors the diversity of the project, ranging from halftime to hard-hitting technoid drum and bass. BASS FORWARD THE REVOLUTION CAST #14 - Section 63 For this month's episode of our podcast we are excited to welcome "Section 63", better known as "Blade" from "The Sect". As a child he was hooked on the breakbeat hardcore emanating from London’s pirate radio stations and started collecting records in his early teens, before progressing onto DJing at local parties. He also made his first forays into the studio, releasing a number of hardcore records under the alias "Blade". Whilst at university, he worked at the famed drum and bass specialists "Tripp2 Records" and was a resident DJ at the legendary Paradox parties, as well as playing regularly around the south coast and cutting his teeth in the "Stars of the Future" rooms at large national events such as One Nation, Dreamscape and Best of British. Motivated by the futuristic output of artists such as Konflict, Stakka & Skynet and Bad Company, he hooked up with "Virtua" and fellow Paradox resident "Method" to focus on production. "The Sect"’s first release was on "DJ Red"’s "Distance Recordings" in 2003, but they really exploded onto the scene in late 2006 with their debut single on "Obscene" and self-titled EP on "Offkey" dropping in the same week. Numerous singles, EPs, remixes and collaborations across many seminal labels swiftly followed, cementing both their status at the forefront of the techno-drum and bass movement and their place in the wider scene. In 2011, their album "Fractured State" was released on "Subsistenz" and they founded their own label "The Sect Music" the following year. After DJing extensively around the world for more than a decade, "The Sect" performed their last gig on NYE 2017/8, signalling the end of the project. The first "Section 63" release was a collaboration with "Mako" on "Warm Communications" in 2016. Initially intended as an alias for any non-"The Sect" tracks, Dave adopted this moniker full-time in 2018, with his debut solo release the "Transformation EP" on "Mute:8". Further EPs and singles have followed on Mute:8, Perkussiv, Attik, Krytika Productions and Drumatch and looking forward the release schedule sees remixes and collaborations slated on numerous imprints. From its humble beginnings as an East End London midweek in 2003, "Therapy Sessions" rose to quickly become a award winning drum and bass tour de force, infiltrating dozens of cities across the globe, such as Hamburg, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Porto, Osaka, Paris, St. Petersburg and more. In 2015 "Robyn Chaos" started up “Therapy Sessions Recordings”, supporting the experimental & darker side of drum and bass with both renown and upcoming artists. As founder and director of the dark enthusiasts DJ Agency Anger Management, she has been instrumental in nurturing the long term, successful careers of almost every major darkside titan in the drum and bass world. Musically, “Robyn Chaos” released as part of the infamous "Faith in Chaos" outfit (with Dylan)and alongside some of the most respected artists in dark drum and bass, like Audio, Counterstrike, Zardonic, Switch Technique and many more. Starting out in Dundee, her work as a promoter for Junglism Scotland and as a resident DJ at the notorious Electrikal Sound System has meant she has fast gained her recognition within the underground music scene up north – especially in Edinburgh, where she regularly plays at club nights such as Midnight bass, Sound System Legacies and the Electrikal nights hosted in the Bongo club. "Anikonik" has supported the likes of Goldie, A.M.C, Chase and Status, Current Value, Mefjus and many more. She is a regular within the festival scene, having played the likes of Boomtown, Eden Festival, Kelburn Garden Party, to name a few. "Anikonik" is not only a DJ and promoter, but a budding producer who was picked as a mentee by RAM Records for the EQ50 mentorship program this year. The dance floor is a sacred space for her, and having the privilege of working with one of the UKs best sound systems means a lot has been learned in terms of music quality and what it is that drives people to dance. This knowledge is currently being applied to her productions, in which she is in no rush to release – until the quality is high and the vibe is absolutely perfect. BASS FORWARD THE REVOLUTION CAST #8 - Shadow Sect This month's episode is bringing uncompromised dark drum and bass in your ears – we proudly present „Shadow Sect“ (@shadowsectmusic) ! „Shadow Sect“ is a producer and DJ duo based in Italy, focussing on neurofunk and hard drum and bass. Coming from different musical backgrounds, they joined their forces to create a unique sound, including influences from hardcore, drum and bass, metal and experimental electronic music. They first performed together in 2013 at a Therapy Session night in Italy, followed by several gigs in over twenty countries all around the world. After the release of their debut EP „Monsta“ on Close 2 Death Recordings, „Shadow Sect“ released various EP's on some of the most respected labels in dark drum and bass, including PRSPCT Recordings, Othercide Recordings, Future Sickness and many more. If that's not enough already, these releases included collaborations with artists like Hallucinator, Switch Technique and Dope D.O.D., only to name a few. This mix perfectly displays their own musical vision and their ability to heat up every dancefloor with their energetic DJ-Sets. BASS FORWARD THE REVOLUTION CAST #7 – Bons For the first episode of this year, we are happy to welcome Novi Sad based DJ and producer „Bons“. After discovering the realms of drum & bass through his older brother in 2005, his love for the harder sounds of this genre grew more and more and resulted in his first experiences as a DJ in 2011. Even if Bons's own productions are focused on uncompromising neurofunk, his sets contain a wide range of drum & bass styles. Regarding his own productions, he started to shape his distinct style of hard-hitting neurofunk in 2013 and combining samples from domestic movies or videogames with aggressive basslines. Since Bons's first release in 2017, he has placed his music on several well-known labels, including Close2Death Recordings, Hanzom Music and Boey Audio. Beside that, his tunes were supported by the likes of Abis, Jade, Mindscape and many more.
