Really cool concept.
The world is a really weird place right now and it feels like more and more people are getting a little too comfortable disregarding the first amendment and banning books. Keep up the good fight :)

Great Mix of Humor and Important Conversations
Banned Camp does an excellent job blending comedy, book discussions and thoughtful conversations about free speech and censorship. The hosts make complex and sometimes controversial topics approachable, engaging and entertaining without losing sight of their importance. This podcast is a refreshing and insightful listen. Highly recommend!

Really Fun!
It’s like being a part of a FUN book club. They explain that they’ve never read the books before and they’re having a smart and interested, yet natural, conversation. I’m returning to this podcast again and again. Thank for creating this!

Listen for all the right reasons
I tried to hang in there but couldn’t. I encourage Jennifer & Dan to learn some cultural history & language skills. The judgmental attitude only reflects a lack of knowledge surrounding the culture during both the era as well as location. Maybe rather than laugh or trip over the culture intensified by a great author like Mark Twain, take time out to learn a little about the culture. Jennifer, it will help your reading skills a great deal. Someone from the Ozarks (where the Clampetts were from Dan as in Beverly Hillbillies so her sounding like a hillbilly was appropriate) or Appalachia could whiz through that dialogue without missing a beat. We understand the history & the culture. There wasn’t much slavery up in the mountains. Poor folk couldn’t afford slaves & often became them themselves. It may shock you to find there were a few white slaves & even more Native American or Cherokee slaves. You wondered of the disgust of whom bought people… hmm. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson of whom Morgan Freeman is a direct descendent. I agree with you on slavery & that history should not be rewritten. I just caution you to have a bit more education of the historical culture. That’s how people talked. They didn’t have the money to go to school & few rights. Things were different in those hard hills. People were as poor as dirt. Mark Twain might not have fully grasped the culture there either with the slavery but he was trying to make a point & did it pretty solidly I thought. Yall both also need to learn a bit more about science if you think Astrophysicists think that kids book was anywhere near reality. It’s not. I’m not being any harder on you guys than you are on others. Still. I hope you will keep going & become better because I love your concept. Do expand your awareness though. Many true Republicans & Christian’s do not believe in nor support the banning of books. Chill your judgement until you gather more knowledge. All the best… They did a good job with To Kill a Mockingbird. They are destroying Fahrenheit to the point that I’m giving up as they talk so silly with constant interruption that it makes the story in-cohesive. Im skipping the Outsiders as I liked that book & don’t want it ruined as they did Fahrenheit & will pick up with the next one; enjoying a bit of a break & hoping they mature some. Still, I’m hanging in there. For now. And should they read this, people of strong faith also stand strongly against banning books so pls clean up your blasphemy. Thank you.

Banning books is stupid!
Smart and funny without trying too hard. I love how they make banned books feel more and more relevant and also call out how ridiculous censorship can be. Easy listen and makes you think. Loved it

So fun!
I’ve been hearing the ads and finally decided to give a listen. So fun, love the banter and commentary though out! Really enjoy and hit that follow button! 😀
Change happened then what?

Fun, engaging, and makes you think.

Smart AND Entertaining!
Banned Camp is so much fun! Who knew that reading banned books one chapter at a time could be so entertaining? Well, now I know, and I can’t recommend this show enough. It’s so much fun and makes me actually think why some of these books could ever get banned.

Fun podcast!
I really enjoyed listening to this podcast made me laugh with lots of humor.

Interesting Show!
I enjoyed listening and learning about why certain books may be banned. Some that are banned I never even realized! I definitely learned a lot and will definitely listen to more.

Love the reading. Detest the extremist political commentary.
The readings were fun in early books, but the politics spoils the listener experience. Either read the books, or become a full blown ultra-leftist political commentary podcast.

Great Podcast
If you want the equivalent of an audiobook or a book on tape, this may not be for you. I appreciate the interaction between the two hosts and the ongoing discussion while they are reading the book. Since they are discussing banned books, politics are not just a sidenote, politics is actually what brought us to the need for this podcast. And I really do appreciate how they make my morning and evening commutes more tolerable.

Folksy, interesting
Irreverent tone, don’t take themselves too seriously. Loved the season on slaughterhouse 5.

Chatter
Interesting books but please reduce the chatter. Some is discussion is good and provides observation and insight , but please please please reduce it. I don’t find it distracting . Thank you.

Absolutely awesome
I don’t know who came up with the idea for this podcast, its name, the sound effects and everything, but they deserve an award. This podcast is so fun to listen to, and the reading and commentary are amazing!

Great show but with a left slant
I love the show. It’s such a great show with the back and forth, but has a very leftist feel to it. I realize that this is probably the audience that resonates, so if you lean to the left, this would be a great show for you!
Just A Dude Podcast
Enjoyed it!
I enjoyed the book reading, the occasional commentary, and even the sound effects. The last few minutes of the podcast were a little confusing. There was some commentary or soundbites that didn’t have anything to do with books… wasn’t sure if it was a commercial or random soundbites to be funny? I think the podcast concept and execution is 5-star worthy but I would appreciate keeping the political views out of it. I listen to podcasts to escape the mess of the world. I don’t want to be reminded of it when I’m trying to enjoy a good story.

I have been bingeing this podcast and loving every minute. Dan and Jennifer have a great rapport. I feel like I’m in a book club, but more fun because I actually get to know the whole book. And the political commentary some people are claiming ruin the podcasts is essential, as book banning is a political action and needs to be fought.

Fun
Banned Camp is a hilariously clever deep dive into the wild world of banned books! With sharp humor, engaging storytelling, and thought-provoking discussions, this podcast makes you laugh while challenging censorship in the most entertaining way. A must-listen for book lovers and free thinkers alike!

Keep the conversation going!
This is a great topic to be covering right now! As a book lover and an advocate for marginalized communities, this podcast is right up my alley! Please keep having these important conversations, highlighting these books, and shining a light on the ridiculous reasons they’ve been banned!
Chella1989
Chilling…but also funny, is that a thing?
Jennifer and Dan do a great job of putting 1984 in context and illustrating the absurdity, and totalitarian justifications, of book bans. Give it a listen!

Engaging, Thought-Provoking, and Worth a Listen!
Dan and Jennifer dive into banned books with curiosity and insight, exploring the ‘why’ behind the controversy. Even if you don’t always agree with their takes, their storytelling is engaging, their discussions are thought-provoking, and their passion is undeniable. Give it a listen—you might just see these books in a whole new light!

There’s no diversity…
These are all high school required reading…there’s no diversity amongst the authors. I was hoping to see more marginalized represented.

Great Read
This book club is fantastic! I enjoyed the humor and discussion from Jennifer and Dan. This book is an excellent example of how history can repeat itself, if we don’t learn from our mistakes. I look forward to the next book. Thank you!

A great time!
A very entertaining podcast. It feels like the book club I always wanted to be a part of. The hosts are entertaining and clearly having a good time. It feels very cathartic. Give it a listen.

On the Banned Band
This almost deadpan naive couple are anything but. Reading banned books out loud and commenting throughout, their dry humor and commentary only help emphasize the absurdity of those that would prevent us any access to these brilliant, original, literary classics. Laugh out loud moments guaranteed!

Great idea, poor execution
I love the idea of this podcast, and I appreciate the the podcasters for making it; however, after four chapters of Season 1, I could take the halting reading style and corny sound effects no more. Too bad. I wanted to love it.

The podcast I didn’t know I needed
Excellent idea to present banned books in a way that we can all enjoy and analyze why they were banned.

Slaughterhouse-Five Takes the Stage
Jennifer and Dan return with a bang in this insightful and entertaining exploration of Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse-Five. Featuring Julia Whitehead from the Kurt Vonnegut Museum and Library, the episode dives into the book’s turbulent history of censorship, from book burnings to free copies for students. Highlights include theories on the “duty dance,” Robot’s quirky take on Dresden and Dayton, and the deeper meaning behind “So it goes.” A perfect mix of humor, critique, and advocacy, this episode is a stellar start to the season. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I LOVE this premise
At a time when book bans in the US are going through the roof, a podcast about the content within those books is a great idea. The hosts have natural chemistry and a level of intelligence you’d want from someone addressing this issue. Definitely recommend

Not what I expected
The show is different. I just started to learn about banned books. That is so wrong on many levels. If the book is not your topic don’t read it! The book I listened to is not my cup of tea but it is for someone. We all have a right to get our message out.

Really Interesting!
I was thinking Jennifer and David reading Banned books will be dull and boring! Boy was I wrong! They do a really good job of diving into the books, and learning why they were banned. You do not have to have read the book(s) or seen the movie(s) (if there is a movie about the book). They do all of this with a bit of hiker and I stayed entertained! I would suggest you give it a listen!
TimNATC
Great show!
I really enjoyed it.

Great concept that misses the mark
I love the concept of this show. Certainly over the course of history there have been banned books that never should have been banned. As I was listening, I heard the hosts make the same error they critique. They criticized a public figure without trying to understand The meaning of what he was saying. Then they wrapped the episode with the most flimsy reason that they think the book got banned. It made no sense. I was hoping for more.

Politics and children’s books?
Why would would bring up trump and your opinions of things during reading, it’s quite unnecessary.

My new virtual book club!
There’s nothing I love more than listening to people who are more knowledgeable than me talk about media I’ve enjoyed consuming. Jennifer and Dan do an incredible job of adding depth and perspective to books I’ve enjoyed and books I look forward to reading. Great podcast! I can’t wait to hear more.

clever title for a podcast and fun subject matter
I listened to the Halloween episode because the scary stories book they discussed was a huge part of my childhood and why I'm terrified of spiders too. The hosts are fun, the guestsarw interesting and the podcast is engaging. Its kind of long but its only a problem for a mom of five (like me) who is trying to carve out time to listen uninterrupted. Otherwise, its a wonderful podcast.

Some of my favorite books with great commentary!
Great podcast all around, but I especially love the episodes on A Wrinkle in Time and the Adventures of Huckleberry Finn! The hosts offer some really unique perspectives that make me appreciate these banned books even more. Way better than my local book club!

Different take on audio books
I love the commentary! There’s reading, chatter and dissecting what is happening. This is how I would read a book in a group setting. It’s like a book club!

Awesome idea/concept
I love this newly found show. Reading easy to listen to and the commentary along the way is entertaining and funny. Great job! A must listen if you want to understand what’s in the books that are/have been banned. I don’t have time time to read these book or never did but now I am able to and learn first hand what’s in the book…so I can decide for myself if I think the ban is good or bad…most time bad.
