Good effort dragged down by a bland subject
The researcher and host does a good job of presenting the material, but ultimately, ballast, while influential, is just not a particularly interesting subject. Would be interested to hear more podcasts from Hakai, their reporting is superb.

A good work / life ballast
Hakai’s first, bite-sized podcast is a winner - largely due to Elin Kelsey and her expansive perspective on an otherwise perplexing subject. What a treat!

Something different
I‘m familiar with Elin Kelsey through her Hope and the Environment presentations and her many children’s books, all of which are excellent. I listened to the first podcast mainly because I was curious how ‘ballast’ could possibly relate to her work. With great story telling and some fascinating anecdotes it soon became obvious - Elin is passionate about everything related to oceans, and ballast brings a totally different dimension about oceans, and other things, to think about. Needless to say I listened to the rest of the series right away. Highly recommended!
