Derek worked for over 19+ years for the lifestyle clothing brand Volcom, where he worked his way up from receptionist to VP of Global Sustainability. Like many, Derek worked in the restaurant industry, which taught him life lessons he reflects on to this day. He is a University of California at Irvine alumni, where he graduated with his B.A. of Arts and M.B.A. of Business.  At some point during his career, the question arose of why we are still doing business the old way and not prioritize the balance between people, planet, and profit. Derek founded his own sustainability consultant firm, The Underswell, and co-founded together with Troy Eckert, former Volcom's marketing mind, the B-Corp. certified men's yoga brand...The Kozm. The Appalachian trail, 2000+ miles, 14 states, and Will hiked the full son of a gun. Our chat covers becoming an Eagle Scout, enduring tough mental challenges, and serving your community.  Will is from Richlands, VA, he earned his Eagle Scout rank by building/organizing/fundraising a basketball court for his town at age 17, then went on to finish his Political Science undergrad with Roanoke College. After traversing through  Appalachia, Will continued his studies by getting his masters in Natural Resources.
