Thank you Justen Arnold for joining me on The Health in the Real World Podcast today.
Here are some highlights of our conversation:
Husband and father are the most important "labels"
Been in the business for 15 years
Trains people on a mind, spirit, and physical level
Focus on moving better, and feeling better
Justen tries to meet people where they are
No person is the same. Getting a personal trainer is about establishing a relationship. Is he the right trainer for you? If so, he takes people through a movement screen, one that he's created himself.
Justen strives to listen to clients, and really understand their WHY!!
Most people haven't thought about why they want to lose weight, but with his "7 why's" he uncovers people's true motivation.
It's important to understand your TRUE motivation. Do you really want to look like society wants you to, or do you really truly just want to be healthy enough to play with your kids?
No more excuses!! When you have a real true reason, you will be able to motivate yourself.
Standards:
- Have a great attitude
- Be on time (read "EARLY")
- Just SHOW UP!! Not just to your workout, but throughout your day.
Wants clients to be self-reliant
What do you tell somebody who falls off the wagon?
When you "fall off the wagon" go back to your big level why
We all hit plateaus, we all fall off the wagon
Remember why you started in the first place
"Life isn't all rainbows and unicorns. There are going to be walls put up, some of them by you."
Create HEALTHY routines. You become unsuccessful when you start to allow unhealthy routines to dominate. Discipline yourself with a positive mindset.
Set standards for yourself. One for Justen is that he spends 30 minutes outside with his kids. Set your life to your standards, don't change your standards for your life.
Accountability is key. Everyone knows the difference between broccoli and ice cream. But how do you consistently make those choices.
Take it one step at a time. What do you really need to do right now?
Establish a solid morning routine, just add one new thing
- Drink water when you first wake up!!
- Increase your energy and mental clarity
- Don't waste energy on negativity, such as the person who cuts you off in traffic. You only have so much energy, conserve it and use it for success.
