Favorite MTG Podcast
My current favorite and, in my opinion, the most entertaining constructed MTG podcast available until Patrick Chapin's Toplevel podcast hopefully someday returns. Thanks Gerry!

Good work
Dave’s great. Gifts rock was my first MTGO constructed deck. It was the most fun I have ever had playing magic. Love a good nerdy podcasts ran by adults.

My fav pod
Dave is great addition, as much as I hate to see Bryan go, glad to see the pod is still going. Gerry T is never allowed to leave, sorry.

Complain to much
Used to look forward to this podcast but every week is full of complaints about anything MtG related. From coverage, cost of the game, formats, direction of design, direction of competitive MtG, Hasbro, you name it, these two have something negative to say. I think I can count on one hand the positive remarks these two have made about the above over the last 2 years. If you need your MtG complaint fix, these guys got you covered. The only redeeming quality for the podcast cast is the actual conversation about playing the game. Their strategic insight into the various formats they cover and their thought process when selecting a deck is useful. Hoping for more discussion around the actual game of MtG and less about their own opinions about what Hasbro is doing business wise. Not everything they do is a reason to complain.

Great Magic Analysis but…
When the show is about Magic, you’re hearing great analysis from two seasoned veterans. Unfortunately a lot of the show lately has been simply complaining about stuff the hosts see on Twitter. I’m totally down for negativity about the game or WotC, but the negativity in this show is too often just a conversation about the hosts Twitter feed. Gerry and Brian, I implore you for your own mental health and the betterment of the show, please delete Twitter off of your phone.

Personality conflict
Great podcast but these guys clearly don’t think much of each other, makes for some uncomfortable listening. Stick to the content and keep the personality stuff offline.

Lost Interest
As a MTG boomer of sorts (played in a Mirage prerelease) I liked these guys perspective. I relate a lot to their non-magic talk and really agree with their opinions and thoughts. But I’ve never been interested in competitive magic and when life got busy I moved on from paper magic about 5 years ago and gravitated towards MTG Arena instead to scratch that itch. I was drawn to this podcast as it was focused on Arena at first so it was relevant to my interests. But lately with paper magic returning with competitive events this podcast has shifted to that scene and those formats that I gave up a long time ago. I also think these guys focus too much on the online discourse and have turned their noses up to the Arena only formats like historic which makes them come off as elitist snobs which was why I was turned off from paper magic in the first place. TL/DR: this podcast isn’t about MtG Arena anymore.

Good podcast but…
I had to close it when the one guy tried to say Tourach.

Interesting advice from grown ups
I’m not an mtg arena ladder grinder or a tournament player. I’m just a guy who plays a handful of games each week either at FNM or arena. Still I listen consistently to Gerry and Bryan because they say more than “here are the decks I found online and why I hate/love them.” They talk about card choices and deckbuilding from different angles and they aren’t afraid to try weird stuff once in a while.

Socialism
Way too much whining about “predatory” behavior on the part of wizards. Complaining about the game that you have made a living off of is just pathetic. It is not predatory for a game company to sell things to willing consumers. People have agency. If they don’t like it, they don’t have to buy it. Calling wizards predatory is akin to calling them drug dealers.

Amazing work!
I can’t get enough of this wonderful podcast. These guys cover the meta great and the conversation is highly entertaining. Keep up the great work! This podcast is seriously next level!

Creative support
The curators of this podcast obviously care. Whether it’s with magic the gathering or your mental health, these dudes genuinely put their all into informing you. It’s two incredible dudes that live to share their knowledge.

Fine Pod- little humility would make me a bigger fan
I’ve been a listener for some time. Insights are solid, obviously insightful and informed...and the commentary is entertaining. Unfortunately, the unabashed confidence/arrogance of JT is becoming tired. Just one dudes opinion. Not sure if it’s all schtick or true personality-likelier that it’s some blend-but I hope it’s managed...what came thru on today’s episode wasn't great. #peace&love

Love them but....
Great content. Love the mindset. But have to admit I have concerns that may be becoming less relevant. The duo seems to be less relevant in the competitive scene. A lot of complaining vs seeing how the game and the competitive scene is moving forward. Losing there edge????

Quite Simply the Best MTG Podcast
This is the year 2019. These fine as hell gents have made a podcast for ALL players of all skill levels looking to enhance their game. Their thorough discussion of Standard, Modern, and now Pioneer is thoughtful and amazing. They believe in a better, and well thought out tomorrow. They are cordial, and professional, and most of all they look to include the best advice for the meta game around. You don’t have to always agree with their opinions on Magic, but they offer good ideas and views to consider. Five stars. Join their Patreon. Follow them into the cardboard battlefield. You won’t regret it.

Way over hyped
I've got a lot of problems with the podcast and have stopped listening to it entirely. The main talent, Gerry T is a megalomaniac who is enabled by a cult of worshippers. His holier than thou personality really turns me off but other people I guess are really into it. The community around this duo exhibits groupthink to a major degree and so a lot of their conclusions are way distorted. Bryan seems like a nice guy, but he's realized Gerry T is his meal ticket and so fawns all over him every episode calling him the best in a way I find nauseating and distracting. If you want competitive MTG content, follow mtggrindcast. If you want fun magic content follow mtggoldfish. If you want limited content, limited resources is great.

Very Progressive
Insightful. Leftist. All around excellent MtG content. One of the best podcasts to listen to if you want the best strategies for MtG. And if you’re not a total a-hole.

Excellent
If you listen to MTG Podcasts this is a cant miss. Gerry and Bryan are great and extremely knowledgeable. Gerry is a beacon of light in the MTG Community.

No thanks
Looks like the rebranding contains a healthy dose of leftism. Not what I came for.

Great MTG Podcast!!
Gerry and Brian really deliver an enjoyable and informative listening experience. If you’re grinding on arena or the SCG circuit, this is a must listen. I love the rebrand too!! Arena Decklists also has a great Twitter presence..... Great job guys!

Incredible Content
The Gam Podcast with Gerry Thompson and Bryan Gottlieb, including the Head GAMs Podcast with Bryan Gottlieb and Jonathan Carter, are among the most informative, entertaining and genuine Magic: the Gathering in existence. It’s no small thing to say how much growth and learning I’ve experienced since listening to their Podcast. They help not only in the way of card and strategy evaluation, but also mindsets and mental preps to help deal with all of our most crippling habits and mindsets. And it’s because their wisdom and authenticity that many of their most thought-provoking angles tackling magic have also transcended into my life outside of Magic. These folk are great, and the service they provide to the Magic community as a whole is unparalleled. Not to mention, the absolute best MtG discord community. 🤘🏻☀️💧💀🔥🌳🤘🏻

On the whole
I really enjoy the GAM podcast and it’s sister podcast Head GAMs. The GAM focuses on competitive level magic. I play mostly casually, but my play group is actually quite competitive. I believe these podcasts help me excel in my play group. Plus, I find it fun to find out how long into the cast before Bryan paraphrases Dr. Evil by mentioning how much he likes or dislikes something, “..On the whole..” I crack up every time!

Chemistry & Analysis
Gerry and Bryan have a great dynamic and I particularly enjoy how their discussions are hyperfocused on magic logic, but asking broader questions and taking the time to Steel Man an idea before deciding a strategy isn't viable.

Changed my life!
This title isn’t a lie or clickbait, but simply the truth! I have been playing competitive Magic for years, but I had always struggled with not achieving the success I felt I deserved to see for all the time, money, and energy I was committing to the game. And because of this I viewed myself negatively in not just my Magic life but it was hurting my relationships with the people I loved the most. On an episode not too long ago Gerry and Brian decided to answer every question they received from their discord server. I asked a question along the lines of “how can I come to terms of not achieving the success I feel I deserve”. I wasn’t sure what answer I was going to get, but inside I was desperate for someone to alleviate the weight I was putting on my shoulders and all the anxiety and stress I was putting on myself. Brian and Gerry were very firm in their response and gave me quite the wake up call! They told me that “no one deserves success and there is never enough practice or learning to be done.” Long story short the GAM podcast completely changed my perspective not just on Magic but on life in general. I no longer put extra pressure on myself to succeed or be someone I’m not. Now I practice for every event with the goal to improve, instead of the pressure to win every match. Don’t get me wrong I still want to win, but this perspective shift has helped me focus on what truly matters to become a better Magic player; which is really the only goal I care about at the end of the day! And because of this mental shift I feel better about who I am as a person, my relationships with people and the game has improved tenfold! In the 4 months or so since that podcast I’ve made the top 8 of 3 out 4 local $1k tournaments that I have played and made day 2 of my first GP! Thank you Gerry and Brian for not only helping me grow as a Magic player but as a human being as well! ❤️

Scratching the Itch
Absolutely love this Podcast. Been following GerryT for a while and he is one of my favorite pros. Pair that with the eloquence of Bryan Gottlieb and you have a winning combination. As someone who loves competitive Magic but who can’t make many events this cast is really a slam dunk. Definitely scratches the itch.

The Gam Podcast is a must for competitive MTG players
Been listening to Gerry and Brian for a while now. I’m not a tournament grinder but this podcast always brings me up to speed on competitive mtg when I do manage to make it to a tournament. It’s also just a great listen, both hosts are great people and just a pleasure to listen to. Their love of the game is contagious!

Best content for competitive play, period.
I’ve been listening to Gerry and Brian for a year now, and every week gives me a new angle to attack the game from. My play has improved an exponential amount from their work, and these guys are doing the MTG community a great service.

A thoughtful Magic the Gathering Podcast
The GAM podcast is extremely thoughtful is the way they bring the content to the viewer. I love how Bryan and Gerry are clear and honest in their capabilities. They explain where they are coming from in a clear and precise manner. If they don’t know they say it. It is wonderful to listen to humble and honest people like these guys.

Personal pro lifeline
Right mix of friendly talk, but they get right into the real strategy. Being able to hear Gerry Thompson’s thoughts directly, such an inspiration not only as a great magic player, but a humble leader in how to make effective change in the world. Keep it coming and I’ll still be listening. Still learning.

My favorite MTG podcast

Take Your Medicine
I first stumbled across The Gam Podcast a couple years ago while searching for Brian Braun-Duin's podcast "off the record". Lucky thing I did too, because OTR ran for 4 episodes and this one is still going strong. I had, at the time, considered Gerry Thompson to be a Hall of Fame calibre competitor, if a bit of a loudmouth, and in fact he had just cleaned up GP with Wrapter and Sam Black with a Death's Shadow deck they designed together. I was happy to have found a new MTG podcast by someone I had heard of, even if I didn't know this "Michael Majors" character. I listened to every episode over the coming months, and I enjoyed it, though I wasn't as much in the loop of competetive magic at the time, and especially not standard, which was more or less their sole focus at the time. Then the two hosts destroyed a pro tour, with Gerry taking home the trophy, and Majors making top 16. Suddenly it seemed people started flocking to the podcast. It had gained a new sort of legitimacy, and people wanted in. Then the cruel Wizards (of the coast) stole Michael Majors away to work on the playtesting team, which is probably one of the best decisions they could have made because that seems like a perfect job for him. So Gerry had to find a new host, and find one he did. Some guy I had not even remotely heard of or seen before. I looked him up and found his GP top 8 picture. He looked like a satyr! What a terrible creature type to choose Gerry. Off the record is hosted by a Dwarf Barbarian, and Limited resources has a Giant, and a Chalupracabra. I should say at this point that he does not actually look like a satyr, just that picture, and I have grown very fond of Bryan Gottlieb, even though he was afraid of saying "That's Gam" for like two months. See the thing is, even though I am teasing these two a bit, they are great together, and I hope they don't take it personally. They keep one another in check, Balanacing out the other's negative traits, and making what is, without a doubt, the best competetive mtg podcast available. They make correct calls, and predictions an astounding percent of the time, because they treat it like work. Fun work, but work. They are able to swallow their pride and say "This thing I love is terrible and here is why". And then I go "No Gerry you negative nancy, [Card Name] is good!" or "Yeah right Bryan, if you like amulet so much, why don't you propose to primeval titan with it, and elope to... Idk... Tolaria west or something". But more often then not, I am the one who is wrong, and I have to take my medicine. The Game has legit made me a better player, and really given me new perspective. Their honesty and openess in regards to strategy has really changed competetive magic. They embraced freedom of information rather than trying to keep trade secrets, and it has made The Gam one of the best resources for decklists and strategies. Halfway through writing this, I realized I need to become a patron now (So I did), because they have given to me, without asking for anything in return but a humble honest Itunes review, and I feel I owe them more than that. So thanks guys for giving me soemthing to make my day better after my closing shift at work, and keeping me in the loop on competetive magic. I hope you keep up the good work for years to come. That's Gam!!!!!!

Best Competitive MTG Podcast
As a husband and father it’s tough to keep up on the competitive scene in magic. I can’t wait until Friday because not only is it the end of the work week but I get to listen to Gerry and Bryan catch me up on competitive magic from that week. They always give great takes on decks and really explain their thoughts on what is going on in the world of Magic the Gathering. If you play this game on don’t listen weekly you are doing yourself a disservice.

The Best MTG podcast out there, and more.
I’ve been lucky enough to complement Gerry in person on how good this podcast is but everyone else should be able to hear about it as well. Brian is a fantastic host and is always able to draw a wealth of knowledge from any guest. I really enjoyed the HeadGAM episodes. Also endorsed as the best magic podcast by Mike Sigrist.

Probably the best MtG Podcast out there
Gerry is an absolute master, and Bryan is simply an amazing host, always knowing exactly which questions to ask and buttons to press in order to drive the conversation and analysis deeper than you have ever thought possible. And to make it even better, Bryan’s voice is smooth and extremely soothing. I could listen to him talk about random stuff all day.

GAM is a must listen
If you play or want to play standard or modern at a competitive level, listening to GAM is a must- the podcast and it’s relentless pursuit of the truth about each format not only informs the listener but also undeniably shapes the metagame. Perfect for a drive to work, some listening time on a road trip to a tournament, or when lying in bed after Cedric Phillips poisons you, this is a podcast that no spike should miss.
