I fear they’ve run out of material. More and more episodes are live shows and not featuring any new stories. Episodes are also becoming scarce

I recently saw this podcast mentioned somewhere on a random subreddit when looking for spooky stuff that involved the Outer Banks and thought to myself that I should check it out which I of course promptly forgot. However, when just searching Apple Podcasts for ghosts which lead me to “The Ill-Tempered Ghost of Bertie County NC” and as soon as I saw the name of the Podcast the Reddit post came back to the forefront of my mind. Listened to the Bertie Co. episode and then started back at the beginning of the show and am working my way through. Loving it so far and looking forward to any and all future episodes. This is definitely a podcast worth listening to if you are into the strange, paranormal, or just the weird. Great chemistry between the hosts make for easy listening. Stay spooky

I love this podcast. I don't live in the Carolinas but now I want to.

I listened only to the first and second of the Bath, NC episodes. I could not even finish the episodes because they were so poorly researched and so gave so little understanding to the times, primary sources and actual historical facts that clearly the hosts had only read a Wikipedia version of the history of Bath. Would love to listen to a better version of this

Love this podcast, manages to be fun and compelling & feature great storytelling without compromising on research or respect paid to the subjects covered and their historical context. Started listening last year and quickly worked my way through the back-catalogue, now i look forward to every new episode! Thanks for the effort yall go to putting this show together!

Michael and Charlie do a great job of condensing complicated, nebulous stories, myths and rumors into bite-sized episodes. They choose the most credible and/or entertaining source materials, making it easy for listeners to dig deeper on their own. These stories are centered in the American South and often involve enslaved people, indigenous peoples and racially-motivated violence. The hosts narrate their stories in a culturally sensitive manner and provide frank, historical context in “family-friendly” language. Some listeners complain that they “laugh too much,” but I appreciate the frequent chuckles, and it doesn’t derail their narrative flow.

After living in the Asheville area for 8 years(I’m originally from Maryland) I wanted to dive in to the folklore and spooky history of North and South Carolina. This podcast is perfect for that. I love the personalities of the hosts, they make the show so much fun. I greatly appreciate all the research they do for each episode. This show is amazing!

Great listening

I only recently found this podcast and have been happily hooked since the first episode. I’m currently binging my way through their library and I can’t believe that I haven't heard of them sooner. I rarely rate a podcast, but this one deserves it. I love how much research and thought goes into the telling of each odd tale, and how the added commentary from both hosts bringing in their unique perspectives and personalities makes the stories feel alive. I also appreciate that they come into the tales with fun open mindedness while also casting a critical eye on each element of the stories to help discern fact from fiction. As a listener, it feels like I’m sitting around a campfire listening to spooky and odd stories from two people who are both knowledgeable and entertainingly down to earth. Who could ask for more from a podcast?

So informative. I live in Ash County, the coolest corner of North Carolina. I see a lot of quilt squares on farm houses and barns know anything about that? Any history would be helpful. I would like to get one.

This is such a fun combination of information, entertainment, banter between hosts, and odd side stories. Charlie and Michael do a great job of presenting factual information while not letting facts get in the way of a good story. The truth and facts always lead while they are happy and good at sharing stories. Check this out if you like Carolina folklore and history.

Just found this podcast and I’m digging it. Started with the Grey Man episode, which is a legend I know a lot about, and they did a good job. Looking forward to learning about some regional creepy stuff!

I know Michael from college, so checked out the podcast due to that, but honestly, even if I didn’t know him, I’d still be listening —the podcast is the right mixture of hard research/facts and light-heartedness. If something is bunk, they’ll say so, and if something is weird, they’ll say that too—hopeful skeptics, basically. Cheerful hopeful skeptics.

I saw these guys for the first time doing a panel at Galaxycon 2022 in Raleigh and quickly became a huge fan. The episodes are quick, informative, and you can tell they actually care about the areas and stories they are discussing. Being a Raleigh native and amateur ghost hunter in my college days, I have seen some strange things around the whole state, and these guys do a wonderful job highlighting the tales and history of the area and the haunts. I’ll be an avid listener and follower for years to come!

I can’t even remember exactly how I came across this (maybe a FB ad idk) but I was hooked after the first episode I heard (the Tresco Sea Serpent, I love aquatic cryptids). I am an NC native and love hearing about the weird, odd, and unexplained bits of legend and folklore from around the Carolinas. The hosts, Michael and Charlie, give a great depth of info on each topic, and deliver them in fun, informative, and often hilarious ways (like Charlie’s impression of the devil in the Devil and Hezakiah Jones). Thanks for providing such wonderful and often creepy content about the Carolinas.

I’ve lived in NC my entire life and i thought i knew it all until this podcast. The hosts are great at getting the stories across abs Shays seem like they’re having fun. 10/10 would listen again.

Just the right blend of humour & history with a dash of mystic mythos. The mirth & chemistry betwixt the Hosts are the most essential ingredient to holding our attention thruout their deep dives. They have the ability to really spark our imaginations !

Michael and Charlie hit all the sweet spots for a folklore, myths, and legends podcast and as a N.C. local this is almost tailor made for me. (However, I would enjoy these guys regardless of the state they were focusing on.) While terribly funny, they also take the material seriously and are keeping the oral traditions of these sort of stories going in the digital age. They also have probably the best Patreon program out there, if you are so inclined.

Love the fact that this podcast discusses supernatural happenings in my home state of North Carolina! It makes the podcast more interesting and makes me want to pay attention to learn more about my state..

I am a huge paranormal nerd, and listen to lots of other paranormal podcasts. But I was SO happy to finally discover this podcast that give me paranormal stories of my own state! These guys do such a great job teaching me something while making me laugh out loud :) Do yourself a favor and give them a listen!

This is a show where as much as I’ve learned about a topic on strange phenomena, I always learn something new from their episodes. Very fun to listen to as well, I enjoy learning more in depth about strange occurrences in my neck of the woods!
