We looked at the concept of being set free from sin and becoming a slave of righteousness in Romans 6:15-23...and we discover that Paul's autobiographical description in Romans 7:14-25 fits this description. In this episode, we continue our study of what Paul means when he says we "died to sin". To do this I show how Paul explains the indicatives of 6:1-14 in 7:1-13. We go over the marraige analogy that Paul works from and we see Paul's own experience of dying to sin.

We continue working through an article written by Christopher Bounds entitled "How Are People Saved? The Major Views Of Salvation With a Focus On Wesleyan Perspectives And Their Implications" . In this episode we read Bounds short section describing Augustinianism. Then we spend the rest of the time reading the sources cited. In this new episode of our study of the book of Romans, we introduce a very important but very difficult section of Romans: chapters 6 and 7. Here we lay the groundwork for future episodes, by talking about the relationship of these two chapters, looking at Paul's understanding of the role of the Law, and talking about the difference between the indicative and the imperative.

In this episode, I review parts of the video released by American Gospel, where Sam Storms and Michael Brown have a conversation with Jim Osman and Justin Peters on the topic of the charismatic movement and if the leading figures are false teachers or if they are headed for hell. Both sides make several good points, but the conveersation also goes off the rails at points. In this episode I begin with some comments about the "online world" of theology and apologetics. Then we continue our study through the book of Romans. We walk through this passage and define the terms and show what all who are "in Adam" recieve from Adam and we also look at what all who are "in Christ" recieve from him. We also read a passage from The Discipline of Grace by Jerry Bridges on the federal headship of Adam and Christ, and set the stage for the next part of Romans, chapters 6-7.

We continue working through an article written by Christopher Bounds entitled "How Are People Saved? The Major Views Of Salvation With a Focus On Wesleyan Perspectives And Their Implications" . In this episode we finish up our discussion of Semi-Pelagianism and read some quotes from a Semi-Pelagian leaning (according to Bounds) writer in the Wesleyan tradition. Then we start to cover Semi-Augustinianism, and take a deep dive into the concept of "prevenient grace", which is, according to Bounds, the key distinctive of this view.
