Encouragement and Biblical Guidance for Adoptive Parents Did you finally realize your dream of having a family only to have your Happily-Ever-After turn into a nightmare? Have you ever been told you’re failing your kids? Does your life feel like a constant storm that pounds away at you physically, emotionally, and spiritually? Hope and Healing are on the way! Hi Neighbor! Welcome to Anchors Of Encouragement. Anchors of Encouragement is a podcast designed to offer adoptive parents: resources, stories, and affirmations to guide and provide stability when life gets unstable. My mission is to throw adoptive parents a lifeline and be your anchor, to teach you biblical solutions for modern-day problems so that you can weather the storms of life too. We’ll do this through God’s guidance, building self-awareness, and establishing healthy boundaries. Some of the topics we’ll talk about are: Where to find help for adoption trauma. How to make your home safe again. And whether it is possible for you to be okay even if your child is not? If you’re ready to face adversity with courage and confidence and turn obstacles into opportunities for personal growth, you’re in the right place. I’m Tim Maudlin. Husband, adoptive parent, bible class teacher, and The Persistent Encourager. Life can be tough! Storms in life are inevitable. But there are ways to remain anchored when life knocks the wind out of you. For almost 30 years, I’ve weathered my share of storms... infertility, adoption trauma, job loss, and the death of a parent. The key for me was to grab a lifeline from God and my friends. Through these lifelines, I discovered anchors of encouragement that grounded me when I felt alone, overwhelmed, and defeated? Do you wish someone would throw you a lifeline? What would it feel like for someone to just sit with you in the trenches of trauma? I’ve been there. If you’re ready for real and raw talk that leads to peace beyond comprehension so you not only survive but thrive in life’s storms, this podcast is for you. Hope and Healing are on the way! 9 – Adoption Trauma Defined! Part 2: How to Find Help and a Good Therapist?
A Conversation With Adoption Trauma Therapist, Jane Baker Hi Neighbor!⁣⁣⁣⁣ This is Part 2 of my interview with Jane Baker. If you haven’t listened to Part 1, you can catch that in Episode 8. As an adoptive parent, there were many times I doubted myself. I thought I had failed my boys. That kind of thinking does not serve you or your family well. This episode is very TACTICAL. Jane will discuss treatment options for adoption trauma and some of the qualities you should look for in a therapist. All that and SO MUCH MORE! Hope and Healing are on the way. TAKEAWAYS… In some adopted children, you see a Pervasive Pursuit of Life on their terms. As a parent, tell your adopted child you understand WHY they behave the way they do. It’s NOT okay but you understand. When you have more conflict in your home than you desire, the whole family needs o go to therapy. A therapist CAN NOT take you any further than they have been. When you've gotten to the place where you tried everything and you're not getting the result you need, it doesn't mean there's something wrong with you as a parent. It means you need more tools in your toolbox. SHOW NOTES... Looking for a Therapist? Jane Baker, LICSW – Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker. Jane is a Master's Level Therapist. 8 – Adoption Trauma Defined! Part 1: How to Understand Its Causes and Effects?
A Conversation With Adoption Trauma Therapist, Jane Baker Hi Neighbor!⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣In this episode, I'm excited to introduce to you, my neighbor from Alabama, Jane Baker. Jane will be talking about adoption and adoption trauma. One thing you’re going to notice right away is Jane’s passion for adopted kids. It was her passion that made a huge difference in my son’s life and my family. Jane was a member of the treatment team for my son when he was away from us at the Residential Treatment Center for Teens.  I know my son wouldn't be where he is today had it not been for people like Jane as he was coming to terms with his adoption trauma. This is a Must-Listen episode. You’re going to want to take notes. There’s so much here. Make sure to listen until the end. Hoping and Healing are on the way! TAKEAWAYS... Adoption is as normal as rain. It's just different.  Babies experience what their birth mothers experience. If you could weigh adoption trauma on a scale, the intensity of behaviors on one side and the intensity of loss on the other side will ALWAYS balance out. When children are placed for adoption, there is a wound that goes along with them... whatever it is, they have to do the healing part. For some children, it’s a bigger struggle than for others. ⁣⁣⁣⁣Your Neighbor,⁣⁣⁣⁣ Tim⁣⁣⁣⁣ P.S.
