March 2020 will be forever known as the time that life on earth changed and not just for a day or a few days but for forever. In the USA we will often hear about how celebrities and famous athletes are coping. This is not to say they’re not sacrificing or having to cope but what is more important to me are the stories of those who are not part of those elite groups. The playing field has been leveled and now, a good percentage of us, are on the same level. Rich, poor or in-between, we are all figuring this out one day at a time.
I believe the first time I became aware of Lethal Amounts was at a show they were promoting a few years ago here in Los Angeles. I bought a shirt at that show and it was one that Lethal Amounts had put out so it became clear that not only were doing more than simply promoting live events. Whether it's live events featuring a wide variety of underground bands, a gallery show you won't find in most art gallieries throughout the world or party events such as Sex Cells or Summertramp, Lethal Amounts has gone from an idea to something uniquely LA.
Danny Fuentes grew up in the east LA punk scene and started Lethal Amounts based on a simple idea and it grew from there. Every once in a while there's some controversy with a show he has had in his gallery, which be expected but he's weathered the storm. Even though the pandemic lockdown has presented a challenge, Danny has been able to maintain his vision and for that, Los Angeles should be grateful.

Fans of the movie "Pretty in Pink" will immediately feel a sense of deja-vu walking into MeowMeowz! for the first time. While not indentical to the fictional store Trax in the movie, Veronika has created a unique shop that is truly a labor of love. MeowMeowz! is punk rock/new wave-themed thrift store in Pasadena CA, which is part of LA County. The challenge faced by a store such as MeowMeowz! is that while Pasadena can and has made a decision on how to handle the pandemic (Pasadena has their own Department of Health), ultimately they are under the control of the LA County Department of Health. Needless to say, there are many challenges MeowMeowz! face and still has to overcome before they're able to look back on the pandemic shutdown as just a bump in the road.
At the time this was recorded, Veronika received word the night before she was able to open and welcome customers back into the store. It may be a little while yet until she can have some live bands play in the store once again but when that happens, it is sure to be a party!

Timmy and I know many of the same people and we were both living in NYC at the same time but we hadn't met until years later here in Los Angeles. He's a union electrician during the day and is the lead singer for his latest project, Los Angeles-based band, Let Rage!
We discuss the challenges of trying to live your daily life in the age of the COVID-19 pandemic. Timmy has another challenge as he's been living with Type-1 Diabetes for a good part of his adult life.

I first met Arelene in 2015 in the bowling league we are in called LA Gutter Punx. At the time, Arelene had a small bar out here in the San Fernando Valley called Bar One. It was a popular beer and wine bar in North Hollywood/Valley Village and after reaching a milestone, she felt she wanted a change. Fast forward to 2018 and Arelene and her business partners unlocked the doors on a new bar called The Mermaid. This bar is located in downtown Los Angeles in Little Tokyo. The Mermaid is completely different than Bar One and when you walk in, you can really appreciate how fun and unique it is.
When the news of the pandemic shutdown was going to happen, everyone felt it would be a couple of weeks. Two weeks turned into just about two and a half months. Arelene shares with me many the emotional roller coaster she's been on since the doors were locked and then opened part time.

Kevin Mills is an interesting character who appears to be unassuming. I first met Kevin a few years ago at Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas when he was riding in a scooter with a fractured pelvis/spine/ribs, and torn ACL/PCL/MCL in his knee and a basket of adult beverages. I thought he was funny then but then I got to know him and he's not only hilarious but he's also an honest and upfront person.
The pandemic lockdown just happened to be at the start of Kevin's regular series hiatus and with one episode left to shoot, they pretty much were able to finish this season. The start of next season is still TBA.
He's currently working on one of my favorite television programs, we bowl in the same league here in Los Angeles and he has quite a few interesting and entertaining stories, which he shares as part of this Quarantine Conversation.

Laffy Pants is an interesting character who's work and income has been impacted by the pandemic lockdown. He has lost most, if not all of his work for 2020 and with a landlord who is being completely unrealistic, may possibly lose the residence he shares with his girlfriend and her two kids. Many jobs deemed "non-essential" are performed by those who rely on the income generated from said jobs.
You may have seen Laffy at a fair in SoCal channeling the "Sham Wow guy" hawking products "as seen on TV", performing with the Radioactive Chickenheads or Safari So Goody or doing a stunt on TV.

Jen Rock has worn many hats in the entertainment business and she's currently a copywriter and producing content for clients who hire her to assist with their social media campaigns. She's also a fitness trainer. I have known Jen for a few years and have noticed she's a go-getter and hard worker. Anyone who works in the entertainment business has to be used to things changing on a daily or even hourly basis, but the pandemic certainly was a new one.
We discuss working before and during the pandemic as well as what we look forward to when this is part of the history books.

I've know Roger since I was going to college in Staten Island....a few years ago. We had fallen out of touch until we reconnected at Punk Rock Bowling in 2013.
Agnostic Front would be on tour at this time but the pandemic has caused the dates to be rescheduled to the fall, hopefully those will happen. Roger is enjoying his time home where he can spend quality time with his wife and kids.

I first met Skwert a few years ago when I booked his band Public Serpents to play a show in western Mass with Youth Brigade and Off With Their Heads. He had sent me his band's CD and I carried it in the record shop I had at the time. We had lost touch since but Public Serpents actually played a few shows out here in southern California and I drove all the way to Fullerton (which is something I wouldn't normally do) to see them.
Public Serpents has gone from a phase of inactivity to now being quite an active band. Things were moving full steam ahead until the pandemic put a stop to everything and said "not so fast".
We discuss Public Serpents, his label Tent City Records, Choking Victim and chicken coops.

As this conversation started, I mentioned that it was the 8th in the series. Chronologically it is the 8th conversation but this particular conversation is being posted now because it's ready.
I was really looking forward to speaking with a representative from activist art collective INDECLINE. We discuss their origins, some of their recent activations and what 2020 may hold in store for the group.
INDECLINE is an American Activist Collective founded in 2001. It is comprised of graffiti writers, filmmakers, photographers and full-time rebels and activists. INDECLINE focuses on social, ecological and economical injustices carried out by American and International governments, corporations and law enforcement agencies. INDECLINE is NOT an anarchist group.
