Better thoughts || Better running
Motivational Posts. Why do they get on my nerves? Why do the constant short messages provoke me? Lead to irritation. No pain, no gain. Really. Seriously. OR take the stumbling blocks life throws at you and build a road.Why do I cringe if I hear or read a low level motivational quote? No matter how often you fall down, GET up and try again. Great how original. If you dream it, you can do it. And the way how to get there? The steps. The plan to change stumbling blocks into a path. The step by step instruction? So these points are the WHAT, that’s simple. What about the HOW. Seems that’s always missing. The results of where you are today, are all a sum of the decisions you have taken in the past, the plan you made or didn’t make, and the steps you undertook to ensure you stay on track. Your current position based on your past experiences, your current situation and your future hopes and dreams. Seriously. But hey, shouldn’t I be all for it. Seeing that this is supposed to be a motivational podcast as well?That’s why from now on the words, you are the sum of your thoughts… makes new sense now. Life's happiness, Aurelius said, "depends upon the quality of your thoughts.” The crux of his philosophy is the notion that while we cannot control what happens to us, we can control our reactions to the events of our lives -- and this gives us immense strength and freedom. James 1:22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. SHOWNOTES: What does this mean for your running? Here some useful links. Zeigarnik effect on Running || Run with Zeigarnik
Zeigarnik Effect The Zeigarnik effect states that people tend to remember unfinished or incomplete tasks better than completed tasks. The effect was first observed by Russian psychologist Bluma Zeigarnik, who noticed that waiters in a café could recall the orders they had not yet delivered better than those they had distributed. Much research supports the Zeigarnik effect, but it can also be undermined by things like the timing of task interruption, one’s motivation to engage in a task, and how difficult one believes a task is. Knowledge of the Zeigarnik effect can help overcome procrastination, improve study habits, and promote mental health. Huh, the Zeigarnik effect? You might be wondering what that is. And what does it have to do with the study on performance indicators and personality traits sofar? In order to answer these questions, we have to take a trip back in time. It isthe mid-twentieth century. Near Berlin University, a large group of university staffdecides to have dinner in a local restaurant. Among them are the legendary professor Kurt Lewin, founder of Positive Psychology, and a doctoral student of his called Bluma Zeigarnik. A holiday that would go down in history as the moment when a new scientific phenomenon “emerged” that would later be known as the Zeigarnik effect. The story led to a theory that explained why some soccer players become legends, why some scientists become geniuses.Their secret? The Zeigarnik effect! Improving running Habits The Zeigarnik effect can also be useful for runners who are preparing for a special race event. The effect tells us that breaking up run sessions can actually improve muscle recall. So instead of focusing on one special training plan, breaks should be scheduled in which the runners focus on something else. What part really makes you struggle is it the hills? The fartlek training? This will cause intrusive thoughts about the information that must be remembered that will enable the runner to rehearse and consolidate it, leading to better recall when you test yourself or go for the run event. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. SHOWNOTES: What does this mean for your running? Here some useful links. Your Running Memories || Building Great Memories
Let me summarize the benefits right now: #1  A memory can become a legacy. Who knows you might be the next Dean Karnasez or Forest Gump. Ok, scratch that with Forest Gump, but you might be THAT runner one day the whole town knows, respects. #2 A 365 day run streak will ensure you have appreciated the basics. Running every day. How blessed are you to have such a body. #3 The struggle of not wanting to, but then going out… it’s a sweet victory every time. Guarantee you will never ever regret having gone outside. #4 That feeling of accomplishment. You did it. 3t65 days every ingle day. You showed up. #5 It is a priceless memory. What thing item you bought on amazon gives you that feeling? Honestly tell me.. nothing will. #6  No one can take that memory from you are creating a success streak. #7 Another point I promise. No two runs are the same, correct? So you are creating uniqueness every single day. #8 These runs, they tend to lead to some or other story. Which makes you someone interesting. You have something to tell. Whilst others perhaps revel in their powerful excuses based “why I simply don’t have the time”- monolog, you have a “I did it-story”. #9 You don’t need cash. Not a cent. You can be as flat broke as a church mouse. All credit cards maxed out. Even the car doesn’t have fuel in the tank, you might be eating macaroni and cheese 4 days till the next paycheck…  but, you can still run. Only people like me who have been broke know how to savor this memory. LOL. #10 A bad memory, that can be changed into a valuable lesson. #11 This challenge will help to define who you really are. That’s why allow me to encourage you. Be brave, set a big goal, one you will be proud of. Doesn’t matter what shape you are currently in; the time will never be right. Go for your 365-day run streak. Yup, I know what I just said. That means running every single day for a full year. See it is easier than you might think. If currently you are used to those off-days because of a high mileage, don’t think this a reason where it cannot be done.SHOWNOTES: What does this mean for your running? Here some useful links. Relentless Run || Unyielding running
Relentless runner it such a overrated word. Most runners’ think that doesn’t fit to them. Only if you have done a huge amount of miles, rough terrain, multi day event can you call yourself a relentless runner. But hey, if you look back at your running year, and there is a regularity to be found, perhaps every two days every third day, you completed a run. Maybe there is even a race or couple of race events you can look back on… and of course a improvement… then well done. Give yourself a pat on the back, seriously I mean. When last did you receive a pat on the back? Exactly so, go ahead. Give yourself a pat on the back. Feels good doesn’t it! But you know what… most runners’ struggle to use such terms. I am talking about normal runners’. Not the runaddict85 or midnightrunner21 who adds a new selfie and posts the miles along with the time… and a comment.. like 10K 45 minutes “feeling off today, but carried on..”. No, I am talking to you. My fellow runner. Who has other things to do than run, but still would like to have a runner career that you are proud of, one where you went after your dreams. Where you can one day look back and say, hey I did it. I have the t-shirt or the finisher medal or the memory. But sometimes, for many of you, the year where its supposed to happen never comes round. And you are not getting younger. Quit often there is a simple explanation behind this phenomenon. The number 1 reason why runners don’t reach their potential is fear. Fear of another running year with a plan, but no results. Fear of trying to go for a distance and failing. Fear of failure, and not meeting those inner expectations. Heading to your last Run 2021 || Running Year End
Today, plus three more Thursday remaining and the year 2021 is over. And you know what this means? Year-end… you are going to look back at and analyze how you spent the year…. Here is the intro. Three more Thursday’s. Do you remember back episode 17? 29th April? The best day is Thursday. Why how come… well break a big goal down into small pieces. Those of you that struggle to build up the discipline or the will power over a longer period. Or you just think a 12 or 8- or 6-week training cycle seems like you can never adhere to it. Seems like it is just a too big of a task…. You have failed often. Never pulled it through. Focus on Thursday. Just one day of the week. Start right there. Thursday is that guy at work who you never talk to, the one that seems nice enough, always shows up on time, doesn’t raise a fuss, and quietly does a quality job every time. Thursday is humble, understated excellence. Back in episode 17 I also mentioned that: it was the 119th day of the year 2021? Means there where 246 days left. At that moment in time 30% of the year was gone. If you were listening to this on this date… the date 29thApril 2021. But to put it into another perspective … there where 36 Thursdays left. Let’s bring it into context. If you want to improve a certain area, -  Best 5K time, or a super fast 10K, -  or a sub 4 marathon, hey maybe a sub 3… -  or you are going to do that trail marathon. you need to put in the time and effort. And if you have completed the first day of your training, you won’t see results. Then, if you trained two weeks down the line, still nothing. No change. But, if over a period of 8 – 12 weeks you have trained with the necessary effort, you will see the result. Logic, yes? Everyone agrees. But why do runners’ fail if its so simple.SHOWNOTES What does this mean for our running? Find out more, give it a listen. Run Talent || Talented how important is it?
Just a quick question. do you believe there is something as a talented runner? Sure, yes.. its not a trick question… but sounds about right. Some runners are more talented than others or is it some runners are more talented in some areas … more than others. And some people think this is due to.….or hang on let me put it into perspective. A decade or so ago, if you asked the top scientists what separated top athlete’s, the answer would be simple, genetics. Then it shifted this viewpoint…that while talent may play a role, it turns out that circumstance and hard work are the deciding factor. A reason for this change was the 10.000 hour rule. The 10,000 hour rule basically states that it takes around that time to that master a particular skill. So that would be 2500 4 hour marathons, or 25 years of running if you practice 8 hours a week, 50 weeks a year. LoL That can’t be right, can it? So is it Talent after all? Talent which many want to believe comes from a endurance gene. “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard” . This neat quote from Tim Notke says coasting isn’t an option. Of course you’ll need time when you rest and recover, though if you’re going to make the most of your talent you’re going to have to work hard God bless you, share the show give it a like, and remember… take it easy. Swimming & Running || Run and Swim
Yes, Heiko is my name… H-E-I-K-O so listen up today it’s about swim and run. The running part we talk about every week. And the topic usually is mental tools, mindset and a rethink of a attitude or a certain way you feel about a setback. Its where I offer tools to enable you to perhaps whilst listening you realize…. Ha, yes actually that’s right I should try that. It is all about how to progress. How to re-ignite your relationship with running. How to ensure you are not settling for less. Too many runners out there that yes, they enjoy running but somehow have settled for a level a distance a pace or a time that is so set inside their brain. You can identify it easily … when a runner says something like: ”I don’t do speed work” or “I never run track”… or if someone is a regular runner but doesn’t take part in an event… or lacks the vision to perhaps run the first marathon. Sentences like “I could never do that”. Or there are ready set sentences that show a limiting belief. Now why am I mentioning it? Is it not valid for a runner to say something like that? To answer or make such a statement? Actually no… before we know it, we are reaching a age where running won’t be possible anymore. Where SHOWNOTES What does this mean for our running?
