"Those who do not learn history are doomed to repeat it."The quote is most likely due to writer and philosopher George Santayana, and in its original form it read, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” This is a line of thought also taught to us in scripture. The people of Israel were to instruct their children so they would not make the same mistakes their fathers made yet after Joshua and the nation of Israel declared "As for me and my house we will serve the Lord" the Bible tells us "there rose up a generation that knew not God."Today we see this same sad truth unravel in the lives of young people that grew up in church and leave the faith because it was never their own. It should not be so! God intends for us to learn from the past so that we don’t repeat it! We must not only instruct them about our faith but we must demonstrate our faith before them. In the end, our only hope is that they come to their own faith. They cannot ride on the coattails of our faith any longer.
