Ash Wednesday
Well done as always by Dan Taberski! Think about what “never forget” really means over the years. The performance of “Ash Wednesday” by Elvis Perkins was the best version of that song ever recorded! “The closer I get to the city, the further I am from memory” with the birds in the background, that really gave me chills.

Important and real journalism
This is a weirdly often a controversial topic, have we forgotten that stories and journalism is supposed to provoke thought and emotion?? This is so well done, so unique, so thought provoking. More things like this please! Thank you for your work and dont let the haters get you down, this was great.

Tearful conclusion
The build-up to the final song by son of a person killed on that day is so heart wrenching. The choice of subjects, Mr. Taberski’s wit and insights make this a very important work of journalism and history.

Essential listening
This is one of the best podcasts I’ve ever listened to. 9/12 offers a necessary and profound insight into the “war on terror” and the truth hiding behind all that performative patriotism we had to suffer through. America’s reaction to 9/11 was embarrassing, violent, racist, and evil- true to our country’s history. What a breath of fresh air it is to hear someone speak it so plainly.

Make it a little more action
I just think that you should add another few rifles and a few more people dying and the story would rock Cvbbb

Whats the point?
This pod just felt like an attack on anyone who asks questions. Anyone who disagreed with the host and his beliefs was called crazy.

Worth your time!
Fantastic story telling and very thought provoking. I learned a lot and was entertained.

This isn’t about the show but about a stupid review. He was criticizing the show which is his right. But then this fool goes on to say “I get it liberals hate America” For most people I live outside New York City I visited it as often as I can. I love New York when the towers were struck I could see the smoke from where I live. I remember the smell of downtown when I first went back and the thousands of photos of missing people hanging up still hoping against hope that there loved ones were still alive. And the dump trucks constantly driving by. Just because I have a different opinion than you don’t assume I don’t love my country. On the morning of 9/12 It wasn’t republicans that cared. It was everyone.

Brilliant
Dan Taberski, you are brilliant. Yet another unique, thoughtful, thought-provoking and introspective podcast about a part of American history that we are still grappling with to this day. I wish all stories could be told this well.

Great Pod Great Soundtrack
I don’t know how but the music captures the feel of 9/11 more then the pod

Enjoyable
I really enjoyed the podcast. I found the stories told interesting and entertaining, and like Dan’s style of storytelling. I particularly liked the part about The Onion and how many of us struggled to cope with the tragedy through humor.

Inappropriate and Insulting
There are some interesting and surprising interviews throughout, while others seem needless or continue for too long, but I found the overall tenor of this podcast to be elitist, inappropriate, and even insulting, to the 9/11 victims, family, and friends.

Lost me when they tried to humanize Bin Laden
I almost checked out of this podcast when the host debated (and was enraged by) with a self-made immigrant about his love for America. But I pushed through. Quite literally had to exit out completely once I reached episode 5 because as a decent human being, it feels impossible to WANT to empathize or humanize with a mass murderer like Bin Laden. I think the episode is tone-deaf, and I would like to see them say the same about school shooters, serial killers, etc. Also because the podcast is so dreadfully trying to play devil’s advocate with common sense human emotions (like hating evil people), it becomes hard to take seriously from that point forward. Liberal at any cost, even when it rejects the most basic understanding of human nature.

The feels
I lived 30 miles from Manhattan on 9/11. My best friend lived in Manhattan at the time. My friend’s fiancé got out on the last ferry to Jersey City that day. I left NJ forever 2 weeks later and moved to LA. All that to say, 9/11 had a huge impact on my life but when I heard the captain in the first episode tell the sailors about what happened, a chill went through my spine similar to what I felt on that day and haven’t felt since, even on the 20 anniversaries since the event. I don’t know if it was the matter of fact way he said it or hearing it rather than seeing it or the weeping heard at the end of his speech but I had to sit down to avoid fainting the feeling was so profound. The rating is temporary until I can finish the series but I have to commend the producers for the introduction.

Thought provoking
Very well done! I highly recommend.

An ironic podcast
It is an interesting perspective, but fails to offer any nuance. It’s also ironic that a podcast consistently complaining that the US government exploited 9/11 for its own gain is doing the same. You are correct, but are you not using that same event to make money too? And 20 years later no less?
Evan Eckard
It’s interesting but lacking a complete message
Good selection of view points and narratives. Some of the episodes seem out of touch with reality. He called Osama Bin Laden Batman and the US the Joker. He seems to not really care about the lives lost that day.

Too Political
I like Dans work, but this was way too political for my liking. Would have liked it if he balanced it out and had some more examples of brave Americans who helped fight terrorism both here and abroad. I get it, liberals pretty much don’t like our country, but there are others who do, there story is way more interesting to tell regarding 9/11

An emotional and human reflection on 9/11
This is well done. Intertwining narratives from a varied background of experiences of 9/11 analyzing the wide ranging effects of that terrible day. Highly recommend.

Eh.
It’s a very compelling podcast, but clearly shaped by the eye-roll inducing cynicism of Generation X. These are post-9/11 arguments that have already been made/covered. The interviewer claims to respect the opinions of those he’s speaking with, but views many of them with a condescension (even immigrants) that is cringeworthy.

Wow. Well played.
We need more podcasts like this that shine a light into the shadows people too long refuse to look at. The host’s voice is the perfect salve to help listeners swallow content that at times hits like a gut punch. Really well produced, written, and edited.

Unique Perspective
Digs into things you didn't think about being affected by 9/11. Love the host's sense of humor.

Measured & surprising (almost as surprising as negative reviews)
As a New Yorker who’s too young to remember 9/11, I found this to be a really compelling and accessible approach to discussing the cultural and sociopolitical impacts of that fateful day. I was surprised to see other listeners’ negative reviews (most, it seems, tainted by their personal political leanings which tend to oppose Taberski’s). It makes me sad that two decades isn’t enough time for people to separate the tragedy from their opinions, from their own interpretation of it which reveals more about them/their views than reality. I guess this makes Taberski’s project — to track 9/11 the “idea” — all the more necessary and timely.

Healing story of how we changed
Dan’s stories humanize,, from many angles, the experience of Americans and the citizens of the world in the days after and since 9/11. It is nuanced and challenging, and not driving a single point or theory home, besides the importance of recognizing how we’ve reacted to the fateful day. How do you laugh, how do you love, how do you practice democracy, how to you achieve justice, how do you memorialize in the shadows of such a monumental event?

Good for a few episodes and then went south
This writer and host had a point, but his hatred of America both before and after 9/11 bled through and wrecked his opportunity to tell a compelling story and open eyes

Stop advertising
Even on podcasts like these, the ones that are supposed to be serious, have greedy channels. Those stupid “introducing ____” make me so mad, especially on a podcast like this. Hope all that money you get from subscribers and your dumb ads are enough for you.

Entertaining, not riveting but binge worthy
Really liked the host and the content. Good listen.

Wow
It started out interesting. Then it went sharp left, as usual.

Different perspective
It was difficult in the moment to understand what had happened and how we were all going to change. This series does a good job of having some uncomfortable conversations that delve into the good, bad, and the ugly with the perspective of time.

The Forgotten Perspective
There is every perspective in here except about the REAL victims of that day: those who were thrown into the proverbial sacrificial volcano and died. Most of them whose worst crime was to stray across the path of Osama bin Laden. I knew a person who good and true and fair and nice, who worked at Alliance Consulting on the 102 floor of Tower 1. Everyone who was with him that morning died: Larry Senko, Sr. VP Felicia Traylor-Bass Lauren Marchese Marcus Caldwell Roland Pacheco Melissa Renee Vincent Eric L. Bennett, Jr. VP 10/17/71-9/11/01 I believe the people who were killed are more victim of 9/11 than I am.

Political Correctness Started to take Away from the Entertainment Value
Made it through a few, then unfollowed. Episode 1 and the remarks about a ship, imperialism, and irony was stretching to show political correctness, virtue signaling. And the few following episodes were the same. I listen to podcasts for entertainment and do not want to be pulled into a line of thought assuming certain groups of people are inherently bad. Objectively almost all of us listening had nothing to do with events that occurred hundreds of years ago or decisions being made today by career politicians.

What ARE you trying to say ????
Okay, I gave up! I managed to struggle thru the 5th installment before I realized I wasn’t understanding what this dude’s unique take on 911 even was in the first place. This event has deep significance to all of us to be sure …. no one person has all the answers …. best to just leave it to each of us to interpret and “deal”.

Open minded
It’s not easy to approach 9/11 with an open mind. This podcast does. It molds together a variety of interesting perspectives and personal experiences and represents multiple generations, though maybe mine (over 65 )less than others. Lets interviewees speak at length without biased editing. Great sound track.

Rare miss from Mr. Taberski
Although skeptical after listening to the trailer, I listened to episode #1. Unfortunately, it didn’t interest me enough to continue listening to the rest of the series. I look forward to the next offering from Mr. Taberski

Disappointed
Came here after listening to and enjoying Dan's podcast The Line. One thing I appreciated about The Line was that Dan seemed to be the only podcaster left who didn't feel the need to interupt the story with editorial designed to signal how woke he is. Alas, Dan was able to hold it together for this series. I only listened to one episode of this podcast - the one with the sailor and the domestic terrorist. The domestic terrorist story was really underdeveloped and left me with a lot of open questions. The sailor had a bad experience in the Navy (the framing of which was clearly filtered through the lens of grievance studies lenses), of which Dan takes this n=1 example and makes a blanket claim that the military is hostile to ALL women. Curious whether Dan tried reaching out to other females in that sailor's unit to get their perspectives? Or did he just take this person's "everyone was out to get me" claim at face value?

Clear of the anti-American propaganda
I thought this was going to be stories about people who were actually involved and how do you like changed. However they made a point to interview people were against the way America reacted to 9/11 as if 9/11 wasn’t a big deal.

Fascinating
Great show, unusual and amazing perspectives

mostly interesting and good
i think it’s as nonsensical and hashed together as our reaction to 9/11 was, which i actually like. the various perspectives on 9/11 speaks to the diversity of weirdos this country has to offer. not always perfect but entertaining and fascinating. the host just gets in my nerves. there’s something sort of ? off ? i don’t think he’s good an interviewing or writing. maybe it’s just this but he kinda bugs me. he strikes me as a guy who thinks he get it! but he lacks some very basic and necessary self-awareness. rock on, i do suppose.

Extremely thoughtful
I really enjoyed the host’s challenging look back on 9/11 and the world that was created as a result. The show was thoughtful with new perspectives present which is difficult to do on an event as covered as 9/11. The critique of “never again” is one that will stay with me for some time.

So, wonderfully New York
This is a Rashomon story, brilliantly told through those who lived it on that fateful never-to-be forgotten day, in mostly the one city in the world that spoke for the world, in the one city that could take it. I always wondered what others were thinking in the days and years after — and even today. But just as New York City was the setting for this tragedy, so was the “melting pot” of the gifted group who put this podcast together — listen to the last names — and who were, in their own immigrant histories, as present in this telling as the story itself.

Great Podcast
This podcast is great if you’re willing to be open minded and take in many different perspectives. The one star reviews are from butt-hurt conservatives, blinded by patriotism

Confused
4 Stars for the entire podcast. I am listening to this last bonus episode You would have put up a flag saying we are all human??? What? It’s like you are ashamed to say you are American? The American flag made you feel uncomfortable? I have been listening to your work for years. I have thought you were so intelligent. I am trying to see your point of view. But I will never be able to understand an American citizen saying the flag made them feel uncomfortable. I so enjoyed your work. Now I just feel disappointed Disappointed you must feel ashamed to be an American. Signed; Proud American 🇺🇸 in North Dakota.

Interesting concept but flawed and disjointed
Even though this had some interesting perspectives, it just didn’t land. Such an interesting concept that never really materialized.

Wonderful story-telling style!
This is the first podcast I have rated in 10 years of listening. The show is most excellent. The host is a gifted story-teller. More, please!

Why the controversy
I really enjoyed this show, and was some what surprised by all of the negative reviews. I thought it was a good overview of so many different perspectives and views of the outcome of 9/11, as advertised. I just wish it was longer, but overall a great, thought-provoking show.
