The Essential 80’s Dance Mix vol. 6
We have finally reached the end of the Essential 80's Dance Mix series with volume 6. These are all the tracks that should have been included in the first 5 but were overlooked for whatever reason. Whether it's the Trash Disco, the 90's House Classics or the Millennial House Classics series — these sets take a lot of time and preparation to put together. Often times I find that I either overlook a track and try to insert it later or just miss tracks altogether and then ask myself "what was I thinking." To truly make these work, I'd literally need at least a month of prep before tackling these massive offerings to ensure everything flows as it should. Given the hectic release schedule for Party Favorz, that's just not possible. Ultimately, I hope I've done justice to this series as it was the most difficult I've encountered of all the various genre compilations from various decades I've created yet. I will admit that I'm burnt out on the 80's and have no immediate plans to release anymore at this time. I had New Order, Depeche Mode, and Stock, Aitken and Waterman (SAW) Legacy editions on tap but right now, I'm just not feeling it. Perhaps at a later date. At the moment, I'm working on the long anticipated Junior Vasquez Legacy Edition and just finished curating the tracks yesterday. This is going to take some time to put together because these songs clock in at 9 minutes+ and will require heavy editing to illuminate the brilliance of Junior's sometimes unbalanced work. I fully expect the outcome to be EPIC! On another note, due to some unexpected personal issues that are coming up — I've pushed the price increase out to April 1st. When I have more information, I'll be sure to let everyone know what's going on. In the meantime, I hope it's sunny and warmer than it is here. In fact, it's kind of dreary and cold with rain in the forecast. Not my kind of weather but what can I do? Until the next time...ENJOY! The Essential 80’s Dance Mix vol. 5
Party Favorz is finally releasing volume 5 of the The Essential 80's Dance Mix that I've been teasing for forever and a year. This particular set focuses on the sub-genre Hi-Energy (NRG), which was the precursor to Hard Dance in the 90's and early millennium. As usual, I take license and mix in a few tracks that don't fit this category only because they work. So, don't let something like Rick James' "Super Freak" throw you off. I have to admit that if I had the time — I'd redo this entire series. For the most part, I'm pleased with volumes 2 - 5 but volume 1 sounds a bit thin to me and I thought some of the transitions or tracks didn't fit in with the songs surrounding them. After listening to what Barry Harris did with the really old disco tracks that were featured in Thank God It's Disco — it's hard not to compare the sound quality and how he modernized them for today's compressed technology (i.e. mp3). I was always afraid to do that with such frail recordings but gave it a shot on this set and I'm really quite pleased. Granted, I don't have Pro Tools or whatever high-end plugins he uses and so I work with what I've got but it worked out well. I'd like to go back and remaster this whole series but I just don't have the time. I have a slew of odds and ends that didn't make any of the sets posted so far and will scour them to see if I can muster up a final volume. If I do, it will be posted in a few days. If not, it won't. These sets take a massive amount of time with editing and mastering to get them whittled down to their essence. If I can pull off one more volume great. If not - so be it. Just keep in mind that this is not the "ultimate" 80's dance series nor was it intended to be as their is way more for hard core enthusiasts to dive into. The 80's was the first decade where music became very fragmented into sub-genres and that practice continued to the point where it's out of control. Putting all that aside — I think all you 80's kids are really going to enjoy this set. Some of the songs were massive club hits but never transitioned to radio. You may not be familiar with some of them but since I was the kid hitting the clubs when I was underage — I am intimately familiar with them. I'll be back next week with something. Maybe the final volume in this series or the next Legacy edition. Either way — I'll let it be a surprise. Until then...ENJOY! The Essential 80’s Dance Mix vol. 4
I ended up powering through my birthday yesterday to get volume 4 of the Essential 80's Dance Mix complete and then went back this morning to re-edit lengthy tracks and check for irregularities so as not to have to issue an update at a later day — fingers crossed. This set is fairly straightforward as it focuses heavily on the commercial dance music arena and then veers into popular alternative dance tracks before settling back into commercial dance territory. It's fairly easy to digest and save for a couple of tracks should be instantly recognizable for most. I had previously mentioned that I've got a lot of new Legacy entries I plan on releasing with some being easier than others to create. I plan on dropping some of those later this week depending on what all I can get done with the goal of getting everything out by the end of November along with the rest of this series. Until the next time...ENJOY! I know I promised I wouldn't update this set but five songs had fidelity issues, so  I went back and brought them in line with the rest of the tracks surrounding them. I may have missed an edit because this set is now 42 seconds longer than the original.   Album: The Essential 80’s Dance Mix vol. 4 Genre: 80’s Dance Year: 2019 Total Time: 02:16:50 1. The Essential 80’s Dance Mix vol. 3
Party Favorz is back with the Essential 80's Dance Mix Volume 3, which focuses on Funk, R&B Dance and the earliest days of Rap before it exploded in the 90's. You may want to call it the Urban mix but it does have one alternative dance mix in it and several of the tracks where massive pop hits as well. This set took two fucking weeks to complete as I rotated out tracks trying to get the right feel. There were some tricky edits and the mashup between White Lines and Rock It was nothing short of genius IMHO.   I had the opportunity to preview most of the set prior to posting and finished last night only to discover some areas of improvement like editing down a couple of tracks and smoothing out some rough transitions. If you're a Party Favorz aficionado, please download the current and final version.   I have finished downloading the tracks for the next few current releases and there's a lot to go through, which I'll do tomorrow when I tag and move the songs off to their official folders for mixing.   I've picked up a new pricey DJ service but it appears to be worth it and I am still using the one for mashups and bootlegs that I started back on in the summer. Billboard has started blocking their charts, which caught me off guard and that cost another $136 + $50 for the new DJ service. I hope this is all worth it because I'm tapped.   I have a birthday coming up in November so if anyone wants to lend a helping hand - I have my donation link still on the site using PayPal (if you have an account) or personal credit/debit card if you don't locate here: http://partyfavorz.com/donate/   I'll finish out this 80's series in November along with several new Legacy entries before we jump into the official holiday season. Until then...ENJOY! This set has been updated starting with "White Horse" through the end. Approximately 2 minutes have been edited out and some rough edges have been smoothed over.  Album: The Essential 80’s Dance Mix vol. 3 Genre: 80’s Dance Year: 2019 Total Time: 02:13:53 1. The Essential 80’s Dance Mix vol. 2
After much hair-tearing, sleep deprivation and overall frustration — Party Favorz is finally back with volume 2 of The Essential 80's Dance Mix. I only say this because I was trying to pick up a great variety of the biggest dance hits of the era but it's not as simple as it sounds. I had mentioned in my previous post how musical styles tend to spill over into the following decade before the actual defining sounds appear by the fourth year going forward — I had forgotten about the Hi NRG boom of the early part of the decade. This sound adapted the synthesized nature of music that had been previously dabbled with by the likes of Giorgio Moroder, Cerrone and even Peter Brown.  By 1980, it hit its stride with the remix of Patrick Cowley's 1980 remix of Donna's Summer's "I Feel Love." Patrick went on to lead the genre with multiple club hits like "Menergy," "Megatron Man," and the era-defining sound of the gay movement "Do You Wanna Funk" by Sylvester (which is included in the Trash Disco Series). Tracks like Paul Parker's "Right On Target," Evelyn Thomas "High Energy" (which was the basis for Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Relax"), Miquel Brown's "So Many Men, So Little Time" and a multitude of others. The problem I have with these tracks is not that they didn't define a movement throughout the decade but that the production values wore poor if not downright cheesy and didn't really quite fit in with the music that defined the era. Most of them were on independent labels that didn't have the budget for quality productions. Almighty Records has done a remarkable job of updating many of these tracks, which have been featured on my Hi NRG series. Regardless, I may go back and whip up a single set of the original versions of the biggest tracks from this era. They not only defined the gay community but provided the soundtrack to the era that spawned AIDS, which devastated our community. These songs represent a soundtrack to a certain place and time deserve to be honored in their own right. If anything, Patrick Cowley deserves to be honored for the movement he helped create as he was one of the earliest victims to die from AIDS in 1982 before it even had a name. Sylvester died from the disease in 1988. As for this second set of 80's dance music classics, I think I finally hit my stride while still mostly keeping to my original mission of mixing up the commercial alternative and pop-hit dance tracks. It may be odd to hear Michael Jackson right next to When In Rome but it works. Many of these tracks have been remastered by yours truly from their vinyl counterparts. As such, you may hear some clicks throughout but that only lends to its authenticity. There are a couple of things I do want to point out. Madonna's "Into The Groove" was shortened because there's an entire section that's a repeat but Hot Tracks thought it wise to overlap different sections of the song, which I found jarring. I just took it out altogether shortening the mix, which keeping everything still intact. Also, Whitney's "Love Will Save The Day" had a lot of issues but there weren't really any remixes of this track other than the housed-up Jellybean and Morales take, which does not belong. There is a minor skip in the second verse but it's hardly cringing worthy. Usually, I can fix these if it's repeated elsewhere but that was not the case here. I'm running behind on these so I may very well have to put the remaining two sets off until November as well as the Junior Vasquez Legacy set I had promised. We're already heading into the middle of October and I need to get out the next Dance Club and Circuit Tribal House set before Halloween. No worries.

The Essential 80’s Dance Mix vol. 1
Party Favorz is finally back with our final entry into the 80's Dance series. The Essential 80's Dance Mix culminates the biggest tracks from the alternative dance sets Pure Energy, Pump Up the Volume, Hit That Perfect Beat!   and the Back 2 the 80's two-volume set I put out last year.  I also included massive #1 club hits that may or may not be familiar to you since these weren't radio hits and delved into the first half of the decade that was woefully underrepresented in previous volumes. What I've noticed is that each decade starts off with overlap from the previous decade before hitting its stride in the genre(s) that go on to define the decade somewhere in the 4th and 5th years.  In the case of the 80's, disco was still the driving force on the dancefloor for the first few years. Though, the elements of the synthesizer, beat machines all began to coalesce during the first part of the decade — it really hit its stride by the second half. You'll find tracks like "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen, "Do You Wanna Funk" by Sylvester, "Funkytown" by Lipps, inc., Kool & The Gang, Evelyn King amongst others in the Trash Disco series where they rightfully belong. During the mid-80's, house music began its start in the underground venues of Chicago and NY before moving mainstream by 1989 with the #1 club and pop radio hit "Back To Life" by Soul II Soul. It went on to dominate the 1990's and spawned a variety of sub-genres some of which proved to be extremely popular like Eurodance, which is due for its own essential series at some point. Because of the massive undertaking of this series — you may find some of the transitions to be awkward as I swing back and forth between styles. That's unavoidable.  For the most part — I'm pleased with the overall progress and variety of styles that these sets portray in painting a broader picture of the decade that was. If you were of age and hitting the clubs at the time — I think you'll agree. If not — stick to the original Back 2 the 80's series I put out last year. For now — sit back and relax to these fantastic gems from our dance music history. Until the next time...ENJOY! Shannon | The Diva Series
Shannon Brenda Greene[1][2] (born May 2, 1958), known by the mononym Shannon, is an American singer and songwriter of freestyle and dance-pop music. She is best known for her single "Let the Music Play" "Give Me Tonight" which topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart in 1983-84. In 1985, Shannon released her second album "Don't You Wanna Get Away," with the same-titled single reaching #1 on Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. By the time her third album was released in 1986, it appeared her steam was running out. The album "Love Goes All the Way" failed to chart any singles on the dance charts and at radio. What is odd is that Shannon helped pioneer the freestyle genre and it was going stronger than ever at the time. Expose and Lisa Lisa with Cult Jam were very successful at radio and in the clubs. In fact, freestyle dominated the club charts and radio well into the mid-90's. Despite looking like an 80's icon that was later the image of Whitney Houston and a great singing voice, it almost appeared that Atlantic records lost interest in promoting her as an artist or didn't know how to market her. By 1987, Shannon asked to be released from her recording contract. In the 90's, Shannon had a resurgence with remixes of her two biggest hits by Hex Hector, Thunderpuss, and Chris Cox amongst others. She went on to further success recording for Todd Terry, Tony Moran, and Sash!. It's a shame Shannon had not gained the level of stardom that her peers had, especially since she embodied the full 80's package. Nevertheless, her earliest hits are part of GenX musical catalog that is beloved by millions. The first half of this tribute covers her 80's output and then transitions into her 90's work, which consists of House Music, Trance, and Circuit. It is with great honor that Party Favorz inducts the fabulous Shannon into the Diva Hall of Fame. Album: Shannon | The Diva Series Genre: 80's Dance, House Year: 2018 Total Time: 01:42:57 1. Dead or Alive | The Diva Series
Party Favorz is wrapping up our Back to the 80's edition with the final induction into the Diva Hall of Fame with the gender-bending and ultra-influential Dead or Alive. Dead or Alive was an English pop band formed in 1980 in Liverpool; finding success in the mid-1980s, releasing seven singles that made the Top 40 UK and three albums on the Top 30 UK. They were the first band under the production team of Stock Aitken Waterman to have a number-one single. At the peak of their success, their lineup consisted of Pete Burns (vocals), Mike Percy (bass), Steve Coy (drums) and Tim Lever (keyboards); they have released seven studio albums and five compilation albums. Two of the band's singles reached the U.S. Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" (No. 11 in 1985) and "Brand New Lover" (No. 15 in 1986). "You Spin Me Round" peaked at number one for two weeks in 1985 in the UK, then charted again in 2003 and 2006 following Burns's appearance on the television reality show Celebrity Big Brother.[vague] It also became the first of two singles to top the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. In December 2016, Billboard magazine ranked them as the 96th most successful "dance artist" of all-time. As of 2017 Dead or Alive has sold over 30 million albums and 28 million singles worldwide.[5] The band was discontinued following Pete Burns' death in 2016. ³ As a GenX child of the 80's, I can honestly say that Dead or Alive was the shit! Beyond the two singles mentioned above, songs like "Lover Come Back To Me," "My Heart Goes Bang (Get Me a Doctor)," "Something In My House," and "Come Home With Me Baby" were floor-filling staples at the time of their release. Fueled by the production team of Stock Aitken Waterman (SAW), Dead or Alive generated some of the most beloved Hi-NRG dance tracks of the era. Sadly, lead singer Pete Burns died of cardiac arrest in 2016 at the age of 57. As part of the era of big-hair and excess, the influence Dead or Alive had on dance music, as well as gender-fluidity, cannot be understated. It is with great love and admiration that Party Favorz inducts Dead or Alive into the Diva Hall of Fame as well as our Legacy artists edition. Bananarama | The Diva Series
After having finished the Exposé diva series, I decided to round out a couple of previous requests for 80's iconic artists. The next entry into the Diva Hall of Fame is none other than Bananarama. Bananarama is an English female pop music vocal group formed in London in 1981 by friends Sara Dallin, Siobhan Fahey and Keren Woodward. Their success on both pop and dance charts has earned them a listing in the Guinness World Records as the all-female group with the most chart entries in the world.[1] The group was phenomenally successful in the UK and throughout Europe with a fair deal of success in the US. Hit's like "Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)," "Cruel Summer," "I Heard A Rumor," and the worldwide #1 "Venus" are staples in their massive catalog. Their overall success heavily relied on popular songs from the past, reinterpreted for a newer audience. It was this successful formula for much of the 1980's that fueled their stardom. Originally, I was going to focus this set on just their eighties output but to make it work, I went ahead and pulled from their 1990 album "Pop Life" which featured Jacquie O'Sullivan who replaced Fahey after she left and formed the group Shakespeares Sister. Overall, this is a fun set that relies heavily on the production work of Stock, Aitken, Waterman (SAW) who are one of the most successful production teams in pop music history. In fact, they are instrumental in the success of our next entrant into the Diva Hall of Fame tomorrow. With the original group intact, Bananarama recently finished a very successful tour in the UK and North America this past August that featured all of their hits. Party Favorz is excited to officially enter Bananarama into the Diva Hall of Fame. Let the celebrations begin! Side Note: I didn't have enough time to preview this set, so please let me know if there are any noticeable errors that need to be corrected.  Album: Bananarama | The Diva Series Genre: Dance, Pop Year: 2018 Total Time: 01:01:34 * Shy Boy (Hot Tracks The Edge) * Love In The First Degree (Eurobeat Style) * I Want You Back (Extended European Mix) * I Can't Help It (Ultimix) * Preacher Man (Shep's Club Mix) * Venus (Ultimix) * I Heard A Rumor (Horoscope Mix) * More Than Physical (Garage Mix) * Love, Truth & Honesty (Hot Power Mix) * Long Train Running (Hot Tracks Remix) * Tripping On Your Love (Euro Trance Mix) * Cruel Summer (Ultimix) * Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye) (Extended Version)

Exposé | The Diva Series
We're going back to the 80's this week with our latest Diva Hall of Fame entry, Exposé! Exposé is an American Latin freestyle vocal group. Primarily consisting of lead vocalists Jeanette Jurado, Ann Curless, and Gioia Bruno, the group achieved much of their success between 1984 and 1993, becoming the first group to have four top ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart from its debut album, including the 1988 #1 hit "Seasons Change".[1] In March 2015, Billboard magazine named the group the eighth most-successful girl group of all-time.[2] Back in the day, these ladies struck gold with their debut album "Exposure," which racked up 4 top tens hits ("Come Go With Me," "Let Me Be the One," "Point of No Return") and the one number 1 hit "Seasons Change." They continued their streak with their follow-up album "What You Don't Know" featuring the self-titled single, "Tell Me Why," and "Stop, Listen, Look & Think." As the 90's rolled around their popularity began to wane, even though freestyle had really taken off. Exposé continue to tour today. In fact, one of our followers suggested I enter them into the Diva Hall of Fame after recently seeing them in concert. Without further ado, ladies and gentlemen I give you Exposé.
