Roberts as Deceptive as Trump
I have followed 5-4 for years. The episode with Lisa Graves on Chief Justice Roberts, which is different from the usual wonderful episodes, must be heard. Graves explains, with evidence, why it’s important to understand that Roberts is no umpire. He is as deceptive as Trump, and he is more cunning.

Refreshing fun and terribly depressing/important
Such an important and fantastic podcast. You’ll laugh out loud, want to become a lawyer while simultaneously hating the law… highly recommend 10/10

Great even if you’re not a lawyer
They do such a good job at breaking things down in a way that is easily digestible to a regular person. They are the reason I am able to stay somewhat up to date, because news is hard in this world of shock headlines. 10/10 recommend, it’s such a great listen on my way to work everyday

Sharp, engaging, needed
Been listening for years, and I credit this podcast with helping me develop political consciousness. These three pull back the curtain of obfuscating lawyer-speak to outline how the Supreme Court is sabotaging our civil rights, like right-wing perverts sabotaging 5-4’s review section on Apple Podcasts.

Great podcast
I am not a lawyer or in the legal profession and I learn so much from this podcast. Smart and funny listen!!

One of my faves!
The best political podcast out there! Funny and keeps me listening even though contemporary politics is so anxiety-producing. Keep keeping us sane, Peter, Rhiannon, and Michael!

Did not think something about the Supreme Court would be this engaging
A podcast of haters, by haters, for the haters. The hosts righteous anger and meticulous take downs of the fascist clowns on the Supreme Court is a balm for the soul. Gathering every week to hate in community is beautiful and important, especially in these trying times.

Unlike everything else in the world, this podcast did not add to my stress level in law school.
I had to wait to write this review until after I graduated law school. My criminal procedure adjudications professor was friends with Peter in law school, and I got an A+ on the exam by reading the questions in Peter’s voice when I was stuck and imagining how you all would answer them. That A+ saved me from having to take a mandatory class my last semester. I’m studying for the bar now and that same strategy is working on the MCQs. It’s not stupid if it works, right?

Best Political Podcast
I have listened to this podcast since it started and have loved every episode. It has the best commentary on not just SCOTUS, but politics in general as the hosts are really good at analyzing the political climate, predicting what will happen next, and then prescribing a way to create a just society.

This podcast made me a public defender
Love this podcast. It was influential in my decision to leave private law and become a public defender. A year in and have no regrets. Also, this podcast really helped make constitutional law click for me. The hosts deliver great, informative content and will save you a trip to the gym because your abs are so sore from laughing after each episode.

Great Supreme Court Pod
Episodes are informative and funny. I’m not a lawyer, but still enjoy listening to the hosts, helps keep me informed on current events as well as important historical cases.

essential listening
Even non-lawyers need to know and understand the Supreme Court as it’s become such an important tool for dismantling civil rights and protections without the input of our elected representatives. We can all benefit from knowing the cases—past and present—that are impacting our rights and, in the case of their excellent deep dive on the VRA, our ability to even vote for the country we want.

I recommend this pod to anyone with two ears. I love listening to the hosts. If you don't like this podcast you're probably a republican that loves fascism😧

Good stuff
I just unsubscribed from a bunch of my paid subscriptions and this is the only podcast I’m still paying for. Idk what that says about me, especially as a non-lawyer, but it’s a good podcast and more people should listen to it. The subscriber-only eps are worth it.

Imagine if The Plastics from Mean Girls were astute middle-aged leftist lawyers and you get to overhear their lunchroom conversations. Yeah, it's that good.

Educational
I have learned so much about government and politics from this podcast! The hosts’ opinions are thoughtful and presented clearly (and often passionately) with a bit of humor to take the edge off.

Better listen…
This one is a fave! Very funny & very astute. I love learning, I love laughing, and this podcast delivers. All 3 hosts=spectacular AND my boyfriend and I are in love with Peter Shamshiri, everything he does is witty.

Great Show!
As a non-lawyer, this show has advanced my understanding of the US legal system and the outsized influence of the supreme court. Hosts are charming!

Love it!
I love this podcast. They are funny and very liberal and they really explain how so many Supreme Court decisions are so poorly reasoned. I have more than once heard the beginning information about a case and thought OK but maybe this isn’t such a bad decision - reasonable people could disagree. And then once they explain why the decision makes no sense, I’m fully on board with them. Reform the supreme court!

Helps me face the existential crisis that is our judiciary. Also jokes about stocks, sometimes.

If it’s Right, it’s wrong.
I have nothing but gratitude for this show’s format of relevant professional analysis and insight, liberally dosed with justified humor. As a parent and scientist with a vehement allergy to evangelicals, Chiles v Salazar infuriated me to an exponentially greater degree than the usual parading of gahbage humans in the judicial wild. To that end, with nothing to lend the cause but my voice and a drive for v.o. work, an early ‘22 episode gave me an idea. If Peter ever wants to delegate his light work and actually take a break from the similes, it’d be both honor and privilege to read them as volunteer work. You’ll probably collectively dismiss this, but I couldn’t resist the pitch.

Swarovski Shrek. Enough said
These guys get it and they got you. Explains the Supreme Court with humor and a depth of real knowledge and insight. 5 out of 5. No notes

Cool Pod
Hey, cool pod. Really enjoy listening. Y’all really should start paying Rhiannon though. Todd’s right.

Amazing even for non-law nerds
Amazing podcast. One of my favorite ways to keep up with what is happening politically. Supreme Court decisions have far more reach into daily life than you might realize. They have in depth detailed analysis that’s still accessible to someone with zero law experience. And all with a delightfully dark sense of humor! One of the few podcasts I support on Patreon because I believe that strongly in the importance of the work they are putting out. Also, Peter, you should totally remember to remind fans to leave reviews more often. You’re welcome 😉

Must Listen
Along with Paul Krugman and Heather Cox Richardson’s Substacks, Five-Four Pod is among my go-tos for clear, honest — and funny — insight as I navigate this fractured period in our nation’s history. I look forward to each episode. The show is a true public service.

Never miss an ep.
IANAL, but I’ve been a listener since the beginning and I’m pretty sure I could pass the bar now. Thanks, 5-4!

Not a lawyer; avid listener
I’ve been listening to 5-4 for years and likewise am a paid subscriber. The USAmerican culture is full of heavily fictionalized TV and movies and stories rooted in a faith in Justice and an awe for an institution, but always pointing back to only a few cases. This podcast is a vital part of truly understanding the vast, almost incomprehensibly opposite balance of how the Supreme Court sucks and Justice is hard won if it’s ever doled out.
We live in a time when people adamantly shout things like “It’s in the Constitution!” or “That’s my right!” but don’t understand how the Constitution, amendments, and all other laws have been pruned back and even hollowed out into nothingness.
We live in a time, too, where it’s important to have knowledgeable and experienced analysis coming from people who can See the harm happening and share in the outrage and frustration. Sometimes that bitterness is hard to take, but when I compare this show to other commentary and analysis on the Supreme Court, the bitter edge and salty spicy takes cut through that saccharine awe of others who try to steelman the arguments and prop up the fluff coming from an institution that has been a drag on freedom and safety for centuries.
Maybe portion out your listening. Maybe don’t binge to catch up. But do make it a regular part of understanding the world and how it can be and has been influenced by a system that sucks.

Do what Fox News says thou wilt shall be the whole of the law
The best takes on the Supreme Court! If you’re tired of folks who still try to act like the Supreme Court has any shred of legitimacy, internal logic, or adherence to the law (besides do what Fox News says thou wilt), listen to this podcast!

It’s not para-social
Premium subscriber here and it is worth every penny. These three tell it like it is, are incredibly smart, and crack me up. Premium episodes are especially fun, and the zooms are awesome too. If someone is giving 1 star because they think the pod is biased against the court or something then they have a baby brain that is mush from watching too much Fox News. No robes no masters!

Makes a dense, potentially boring topic entertaining.
I’m not a lawyer and don’t even live in the US but I look forward to this podcast every week. And that’s entirely because the hosts are so fun, on top of being very knowledgeable and informative.

Need to pass Con Law? Listen to this podcast
This podcast will help you understand even the most seemingly boring and/or depressing cases that your Con Law professor will make you learn. The hosts are fantastic and I absolutely love this podcast so much that I have continued to pay for it even though I graduated 3 years ago. Give it a listen!

A breath of common sense
Entertaining, with interesting legal insights where the hosts ground their analysis in how the larger system of governance actually functions when interfacing with real people rather than ideal legal abstractions. Always worth a listen to see the forest for the trees - where other Supreme Court podcasts get distracted on minutia tangents, 5-4 always grasps the big picture of societal consequences. Cool pod, 5⭐️

I enjoy it a lot.
One of the best on the topic!
Love Love Love
5-4 is in my top 3 podcasts! I anxiously await each new episode for Peter’s metaphors, Rhiannon’s laugh, and Michael’s dry humor. This podcast has definitely expanded my view and knowledge of the courts; I appreciate the accessibility of the analysis as a not-lawyer. 13/10 Highly recommend.

Cool podcast
Not a lawyer, but it seems like a good and accessible breakdown of scotus cases. Enough jokes to be funny but not so much that it feels off topic.

prescient and hilarious
the hosts shine a light on the shoddy work and shocking animus of a deluded and corrupt Court that has run away with our system of laws
