Excellent listen!
Well written and researched. I enjoyed listening to this and was glad that they caught the guy.

What’s with the ads?
I enjoyed listening to season one but for whatever reason season 2 had ads like every 2 min. It stops mid sentence for an ad. It was so jarring I thought it was a big but it seems like it’s a common issue. I couldn’t listen anymore.

Only listen to Season 1
The first season was fantastic and I would give that 5 stars. Great narration and editing. Highly recommend listening to this season only, the other seasons are awful and I would give 1 star to those. Waste of time!!! Narration is so awful, repeating data over and over. Feels like the other seasons could be told in 2-3 sessions and they were forced to fill in with redundant info to stretch out to many episodes. Literally had to fast forward through most episodes out of sheer boredom.

Good story but…
Podcast dragged on way too long. Story could’ve been told in 3 less episodes.

Very well written, professional, and respectful
I listen and watch a lot of true crime content. This is an amazing example of a top tier investigative journalist. The context provided when referring to the investigations and the science available during each step of the investigation is in depth and allows you to really connect to the story. The victims are represented so respectfully. The sensitivity and care taken with witnesses, professionals, and the family/ friends of the victims is honestly unparalleled compared to all the other true crime content I listen and watch. It’s honestly so refreshing to have victims of violent crimes being treated like humans, while not mocking them or insinuating they brought their deaths on themselves. You can tell everyone who works on this really care about what they’re doing.

Five Ads in 10mins
I don’t know what’s going on, but I got five Ads in the first ten minutes of listening. Season 1 was good but now that this is happening in season 2, I might need to call it quits.

Must listen
This story is horrific. They did an amazing job delivering such a heart break story! Look forward to me podcast!

Great podcast
WTOP American Nightmare Series has been such a great informative easy to listen to podcast. Having newly moved to the DMV area I found it interesting that all of this heartbreak & terror happened in a place I now call home. The narrator Paul did such a great job of laying out the facts & I felt like I was tracking right along with the investigation. I came into series 3 first & look forward to going back & listening to series 1&2.

Good delivery of information
Straightforward, thorough information! This is an actual reporter of information. Good job!
Reading ♥️
Season 1 way too much filler
Good info mixed in with constant repetition and filled out with long stretches of completely irrelevant details. Stopped midway in episode 4, unsubscribed and will seek out something else on this case. Agree with every critical review. Including the audio and/or narrator’s enunciation is distracting - sounds like she has a strong lisp on a lot of words.

THE ONLY PODCAST TO TRIPLE CHECK FOR NEW SEASONS
There are so very great podcasts. But I come back this one and am waiting for Season 4. If you haven’t listened to Season 1-3, it’s a must and then let’s ask for Season 4!!! Please!

Worth the listen!
This pod is so well done! So glad it was suggested to me!

American Nightmare is great
This is a true journalist at work, not a giggling crime junkie. Very professional and credible.
American Nightmare 5 star
Can’t wait to hear more!
I’ve only heard season three, and it was so well-done that I definitely will go straight to seasons one and two and listen to those as well. This podcast synthesized a lot of complex information and was presented so professionally. I love the the host’s voice and delivery. He is easy to listen to, unlike some other crime podcast hosts who sound inauthentic or sensationalize the cases they’re describing. He didn’t waste time on insignificant details, either. There was no fluff here at all. He got great interviews too; everyone he interviewed contributed useful and interesting details.

Season 2 is amazing; 2 and 3 not so much
Season 1 is amazing and I loved listening to Megan and Jack go over al the facts; it almost felt like I was listening to a fictional show with all the details unraveling slowly and cliffhangers. Season 2 and 3 are okay, but not as good as they are narrated by a different person.

Season one is exceptional
Megan and Jack do an amazing job of breaking down the investigation and tell the story of what happened in that mansion in a way that I haven’t heard before. I hope they will do it again because it was truly exceptional and very interesting. Listening to the investigation, and how it all came about, and the back-and-forth of the case, was really fascinating.

Awesome series
All three podcasts in this series were awesome. Excellent in-depth reporting. They were riveting from beginning to end. Thank you for all your hard work Researching these cases.

Mr. Wagner did an excellent job
Thank you for all of your research and for putting your heart into this. You did an excellent job of giving voice to victims (season 3 is what’s fresh on my mind) and also giving grace to the family of the accused. My heart goes out to all of them and especially the women who have carried these burdens for decades.

Hoping this turns into a book!
I began checking the locks on windows and doors after listening to this podcast. This rapist was prolific over a long period of time, operated for years before anyone knew he was out there, and so little is known about him. Please write the book!

Review
Megan Cloherty and Jack Moore do an outstanding job researching and presenting the tragic stories in this podcast. This is in my opinion the best true crime podcast I’ve ever listened to. Please keep more coming.

Brought back memories
Being a West Coast native but having lived several years in Wash DC in the mid-1970s, the murder of the family of the 22 Hours had riveted my attention in 2015, but I never learned of the podcast. Hearing about the Season 2 and Season 3 podcasts (I am a huge lover of podcasts—of history, people’s true stories, and of news), I listened to them, especially of Season 3 in Sept/Oct 2022. Knowing of the upcoming hearing of Giles Warrick in mid-November 2022, I looked it up online at that time — and was shocked to hear of his jail suicide. Thanks to Paul Wagner for his in-depth dive into the Potomac murderer/rapist. Great job, and thanks for the final episode and “back story.” Well done!

Season 3
Enjoy the content but the mouth and lip noises from the narrator and recorded interviews is truly distracting and annoying.

Season 1 - 22 Hours
What an amazing production! The best I have ever experienced. Meagan & Jack; great work!

Why are all your killers Black men?
Show is good journalism but why are all your killers or suspects Black men? I understand that Washington DC was a slave state and there is a large Black population there but I promise there’s some white murderers there
Dkelley822
Fascinating, thorough podcast
I’ve really enjoyed these podcasts. I live in the area, so this podcast is all the more relevant. 22 Hours was truly horrifying, and the detailed series really showed how truly tragic this event was. In the latest season, it is fascinating how new DNA process finally identified the suspect.

Good but …
Very interesting and compelling stories. Jack (season 3) and Meghan (season 1) were very good narrators. But, the commenter Jack Moore In season 1 was vapid and annoying and his commentary ruined the narration. Suggestion - edit season 1 and remove his commentary

Genuine Host/Writer
Paul Wagner is an amazing journalist, you get a sense he really cares about the subjects of every story he covers. His voice is calming and my favorite aspect of listening to Paul is that he doesn’t interrupt others, he lets them speak in full when discussing their journey or thoughts. Very genuine guy! Thanks Paul for all your hard work bringing justice and care to every story you cover.

Processing
Ya’ll need to introduce some noise gating on the mic processors. So many mouth noises. Can’t listen because of it. Sounds like someone smacking a damp pile of mud with every word.

Sophomore Slump?
I really enjoyed season one of the show. Helen however season two seems to be in a sophomore slump. There was no real resolution, the episodes dragged on and on in a very dry manner and I feel that the storytelling was lacking. These 50+ minute episodes of season two are filled with unnecessary filler conversations between Paul Wagner and his interviewees and other audio that could have been cut down immensely to tell a story. After the stellar narrative of season 1, I expected better. I hope this is just a season 2 slump, I’m afraid to even bother with season 3.

So well done
I was an intern in DC the summer of 1998 and ran through that wooded area off Canal Road every evening, including the evening Christine was killed. That particular night, I’d had a weird feeling (around the gas station mentioned in the podcast) and turned around, cutting my route short. I still can’t explain it. I will never forget coming upon the yellow caution tape marking off the area the next day and then watching the news that night to learn what had happened. I felt like throwing up. And there hasn’t been a day since that I haven’t thought about Christine and all of the amazing things she’d done and would do, had she lived. Had it not been her. Thank you for this podcast and for your dogged search for answers over the years… it is so well done.

Season 3 Ending
It just ends with no real conclusion. I hope there is another episode to wrap things up. Who killed Christine?

Brilliant work
This is more than a true crime podcast. It’s a story of a community, a family, a city. It’s thoroughly and respectfully done, full of humanity. This is the best of journalism. Paul tells these stories with compassion for the victims and his explanations about the use of genealogy in solving cases are worth your attention. I’ve lived in DC for nearly my entire life and I remember all of the headline stories profiled in the three seasons. Sad to hear that they aren’t all solved but glad that they are getting the attention that’s needed to bring justice to the victims’ families.

Very interesting and well produced
Very good investigative reporting. I came upon this at episode 3 of season 3, and it’s been fascinating. Now I have two previous seasons I’m looking forward to hearing!

Am I missing something?
Season 2 on the murder of a nursing manager…. There was no resolution or solving of the murder. There’s a million of these stories out there. I listen to hear how the case was solved who was responsible, and why. Very disappointed.
Powertrain123
Another well done W-2-B murder series
Gripping, podcast, and well done.

Trouble with the playback
I am enjoying the podcast so far (season 1) but every time I pause, it restarts the beginning of the episode again which is very frustrating.

Great True Crime Podcast
Excellent reporting and very interesting to listen to. I lived in the DC area during the 90’s, but had never heard about the cases in Seasons 2 and 3.

I’m hooked!
I remember these cases but never got the level of detail presented in this well-produced series of podcasts. Hearing from family, friends, witnesses, detectives, and reporters who covered the stories is gripping and heart wrenching.
