We are called to study the words of God, the Bible and his book of creation, since He created the heavens and the earth by speaking them into being and motion. The sexual experience within marriage is enormously fulfilling, beyond what any other extramarital sexual relations can give us. However, there is still the tendency to get caught up in an idolatry of the human body because of how powerfully intimate and gratifying sex is. Falling prey to that idolatry leads to all sorts of evil and eventually to the downfall of civilization. The ancient world was filled with sexual immorality, chiefly in relation to worshipping the ancient gods. However, some did have a sense honor, respect, and obligation, viewing the marital relationship as building block of society. The best example of this is the Israelites of the Old Testament and the laws they were provided by Yahweh. They endorsed the original creational model of one man unified with one woman in an lifelong bond from which children could be born and raised and introduced into the rest of the community to begin families of their own and work toward the betterment of the world. Fasting from food is one things and is hard enough in itself, but in times of dire need, there is an even greater fast, the absolute or complete fast, that is used to request real, tangible change from Yahweh that will effect the fabric and events of reality. Now that we have examined prayer in depth, we moved on to the discipline of fasting which is a very forgotten discipline in modern times. There is a growing fascination with fasting in secular culture that is primarily due to the beneficial physical effects that it can have since it forces the body to rely upon the fat stored up for sustenance and can induce healthy weight loss. However, there are major spiritual benefits as well that help us to connect with God on a deeper level if we are willing to use fasting as a sacrificial period in which to commune with him. What does it mean to heal? According to Scripture, it means to make right what is wrong, to restore, which connects it to both God's justice and salvation.
