What was the point?
I just don’t understand what the value-add of this series was. Wondery always has an element of sensationalism “they dialed 911 with shaking hands” which is wholly unnecessary, and this series was no exception. But what really earned my low rating was coming away after four episodes me saying … “so?” Did I learn anything new? No. Did I feel like the show understood the story it was trying to tell and the reason to tell it? No. Waste of time.

Liberal Bias Alert
Unlistenable by the third episode… the first episode is quality but after that it descends into a left wing defense of the crime. Those who are interviewed in episode 3 can’t conceive how a health insurance policy works. There is not mass killing from the health insurance business. This is just a platform for everyone getting everything they think they need for free. I have had some of the back issues Luigi has and have had surgery. None of the discomfort justifies what he did. Ever.

Some Interesting Perspectives
While the narrator might be a little dramatic, to the point of being a caricature, I think they raise a number of interesting questions about the media’s reluctance to cover this news. Which is what it is.
When you consider the corporate/private equity ownership of SO many of the pieces of this puzzle…and the number of people who die under our current medical system…you just have to ask some questions.
I would recommend giving it a listen just to hear about a topic not being covered elsewhere.
And personally I don’t feel as if they are making any presumptions about his innocence or guilt any more than is natural when someone is arrested and there seems to be a lot of incriminating evidence.
It is my hope that the trial will get the coverage it deserves.
And also that our broken healthcare system comes back from the upcoming collapse of the basic infrastructure quickly so that fewer people die needless deaths.

Awful apologetics
This is not a news podcast, it’s a cry to excuse Luigi’s violent crime. Love Wondery generally — this podcast is the worst of current trends.
Essential Listening on Israel
Boo the host
The host is annoying. Dramatic where drama isn’t necessary. This podcast is pointless. It will give you any more info than you already know. Just adds too much flair for it to be considered newsworthy.

It wasn’t him
It’s very irresponsible to name the podcast Luigi when he is 1. Innocent until proven guilty and 2. There is high suspicion of planted evidence and unlawful police work

Ratings kinda swayed…..
Look closely at ratings for this pod. Don’t you find it funny that because of the lack of a zero, it has a bunch more 1’s than 5’s yet still average’s a 2.6? I get how math works, but still a bit janky and biased.

Caricature Host + Garbage Script
Two stars because I’m interested in the case but this podcast was awful! The host is a caricature of a journalist, injecting so much fluff into his writing/“reporting”. I’ve listened to a handful of Wondery/Wondery+ true crime podcasts and they have all been objective reporting of the crimes and their stories. I can’t believe this is on the Wondery platform. This host and his script were total garbage and ruined the credibility of this podcast.

Zero stars
If I could give this zero stars I would. The hosts are not experts and leave out A LOT of context.

Bless the Luigis of the world
If the majority of Americans were on the jury, Luigi would walk. The ignorance of thinking it’s ok to kill Luigi for allegedly killing Brian who for a fact killed people for a living and made millions of dollars doing it is astounding. The same people sounding off about Luigi idolatry are the same ones cradling Trump’s old balls as both a religious practice and a political strategy, therefore they lack the critical thinking skills necessary to be taken seriously regarding this, or any other issue.

The Worst Wondery Podcast Ever
Honestly, I am shocked at the bias and poor quality of this podcast. When I heard a trailer for this series, I was looking forward to learning more about Luigi’s actions, and I have come to expect a certain level of reporting and presentation with Wondery, and this podcast is definitely not up to that standard. It is VERY clear that host Jesse Weber believes Luigi is guilty (although he likes adding “allegedly” to his bold statements) and it is also clear that Weber thinks Luigi is a complete monster. I cannot believe anyone thinks this is good — it’s one of those instances where I wish 0-Stars was an option!

Good reporting from a POV we are not used to

TERRIBLE Host
I gave it two stars rather than one because some of the content was actually interesting, but Jesus! The host is a caricature, with his conspiratorial tone and excessive emphasis. I might’ve been able to last a little longer if he had calmed all that down some, but instead, it seemed to get worse as the series went on.
The relentless tacky, tension music was also really annoying. I had to stop.

Pretty disappointing so far
I appreciate the commentary from friends of Luigi, but it feels like the host (and some experts) has already made up his mind, often adding “alleged” as an after thought.

Garbage
Surprising for Wondery. Totally tried to ride the popularity of this subject with a lifeless, low-quality podcast.

Hang him
Cold-blooded murderer.
ChadAHall
Wildly biased and unprofessional. Do better.
Disgustingly biased. His trial hasn’t even started but listen to episode 4…. All of the “reporting” is framed in a way that presumes his guilt already. Do better, Wondery. This is not a good look for you.

Biased Copaganda
Heavily biased toward law enforcement. The language and tone sounds like some determined and diligent cops tracked him down, when really it was just some narc at McDonald’s that delivered this suspect.
The podcast creates drama where there is none. The people of NY and across the country were in no way fearful of some mad killer. Extraditing a suspect from PA to NY is a procedural thing that happens every day. Any person charged has the right to waive or fight extradition. This description made it seem like a big deal, but one sentence later, Mr. Mangione was wearing a maroon sweater in a NYC courtroom.
So the extradition element was played up, but other than counsel for the defendant, suspiciously absent was any mention of the absolute clown show of a perp walk from a heliport on the Hudson. 50 men with serious expressions, an arsenal of weapons at hand, the mayor… they looked like a bunch of fishermen trying to claim credit for catching The Big One. Fools. Compounding that, they made the suspect seem like a comic book antihero. Everybody knows the Joker’s the coolest character. Luigi walking up the figurative plank wearing a slightly bored expression, jumpsuit blaring bright orange against the grey skies, a tumble of dark curls on top of his head, that’s the stuff of legends. No mention of that, though.
The mayor/NYPD/FBI got what they deserved. They thought they were making him look like a criminal, but they made him a sensation instead.

This kid is disgusting
This psychopath deserves to be locked up for life. He’s a spoiled brat that had every opportunity and instead killed a family man that WORKED his way up. Blame policies like OBAMACARE for how terrible the medical industry has become. And the democrats on the left supporting this murderer just shows along with EVERYTHING else they do that they’re NOT the party of “morals and values” or “tolerance and love” democrats endorse domestic terrorism, murder, violence, bigotry, racism and hatred as long as it fits THEIR narrative while point the finger and casting the blame on everyone else. Simplest answer, democrats, ALL DEMOCRATS are NARCISSISTS!

An American Hero
Whomever shot Brian Thompson absolutely committed a crime but they did nothing wrong. I also know it could not have been Luigi because we were in church receiving communion on the morning of December 4th.

Good podcast
See all those one star reviews? From people who didn’t even listen? Ignore them.
JW543
Filled with false information generated from bogus media propaganda.
Do not watch. This coverage is equivalent to that of a fictional lifetime movie.

This could be great but

Sad
This is glorifying a murder that is not go to do a thing for insurance other than raise the price so they can afford security. People would not be supporting this man if he looked like Robert Pinkton.

Dumb
Just a pile of nothing based on uneducated cray people. That’s why we are where we are lol. Shouldn’t have a platform. If you notice the good reviews are “we love Luigi” it’s just extremist nonsense.

Garbage
You really think someone listening to this average (at best) first episode is enough to get them to subscribe for the rest? Lol

I wanted to get a deep dive into the case
But the host’s overdone affect is too obnoxious to listen to. Will keep looking up news articles instead.

Boring
Boring.

Can’t listen *at all* without paying?…..
A case centered around the dark side of capitalism and the makers of this pod are only letting people who can afford subscriptions listen?! I understand a pay option for listening to episodes early/ad free but no free option at all? Can’t believe someone in the production team didn’t realize how tone deaf and hypocritical this would come across given the case and subject matter…Have a hard time imagining Luigi would approve if he knew this.

I should’ve waited until we had the facts. This is really celebrating the death of one person.

More bias, inaccurate media
Complete misrepresentation of the actual cultural impact of this incident. A blatant attempt to rewrite history as it’s happening.

Piping Hot Garbage
No facts and all one sided opinions. Validating the execution of the CEO. I wanted details on Luigi, the case and you just get a commercial for universal healthcare. Not a surprise it has dropped from a 4.1 star to a 3.3 in 9 hrs. Politics aside…. a lot of blue hair dye involved in this podcast.

💚Luigi💚
We love Luigi! Sorry to see so many commenters don’t understand that when the entire system is violent and oppressive, certain things have to be done.

Luigi is the hero of our time.
The production work on this podcast is amazing! Thank you Luigi!

Well done
Good discussion of all the issues: public response, the brutality of murder, and overall frustration with the gold lined pockets of our healthcare industry. Well organized & good narration

Unfair biased
Absolute garbage. Luigi is ALLEGED to be the killer and everyone’s treating him like he did it.
Guarding Cross
Nuanced and Balanced Take
Reactions to this podcast perfectly underline the hyper partisan mood in the US.
You can be sympathetic to or even agree with someone while still believing that person should be held responsible to the full extent of the law for actions they chose to carry out. Humanizing the alleged perpetrator and learning about his stance does not lessen his crime, it merely explains his motive.
I appreciate this network’s dedication to providing solid analysis of the legal issues at stake and their willingness to explore the media circus surrounding it. It helps de-mystify this story that has been funneled through a multitude of political meat grinders and sold as various brands of partisan hamburger depending on the bias of the organization presenting it.
If you want a full airing of the story and issues around it, this show is for you.

So tired of irresponsible media. Your attorney guests don’t even have their facts straight. How can I take you seriously? This kid will never get a fair trial 👎🏼

Disrespectful. Disgusting.

Extremely biased!
We are not “nitwits” for respecting Luigi’s right to a fair trial! Why even make a podcast about a case that hasn’t been adjudicated yet? This would be illegal in the UK, because you’re tainting the jury pool.

L&C has a good history of tracking these sorts of trials. Very eager to listen to this as the trial goes on!

Morally Bankrupt Pablum
If the writers of this podcast want to talk about healthcare and the political divide then do it WITHOUT passing along the message of a murderer. It is celebrating a murderer.
