But not Israel
It’s hard to fathom how you can talk about Russian atrocities like bombing a hospital and completely omit Israel from doing that and far worse. It’s inexplicable unless it isn’t.

Interesting Perspectives and Analysis
Although the Economist has a decidedly liberal bias, it is helpful to hear their perspective and analysis. They cover many news topics that you never hear about the US and the rest of the world. Many topics and countries that the US media ignore. Interesting perspectives on US and other nations issues and news.

Significant Bias
The Economist has been letting bias through in reporting more and more. I use to view them as a news outlet to get global coverage and well rounded reporting. They have become an opinion outlet and should label their coverage as such. No longer reliable as a result - because of bias any reporting now will need to be confirmed by other sources before relying on it. If you accept this is opinion and not fact, it becomes a little bit easier to listen to but only if that is what you are looking for.

Often Wrong
Their political biases often lead their predictions and analysis astray. The final straw was an episode I listened to less than a day after it was published and the outcome the expert had predicted was least likely to happen had in fact happened.

Getting Concerned
I have subscribed to The Economist for 46 years. The magazine remains pretty balanced but the podcasts are getting increasingly liberal — not the classical type. I am a moderate Republican. The worst is Checks and Balance. I am not a huge fan of the Trump Admin, but the hosts’ loathing is unbridled and biting. Guests not balanced. The Intelligence is going in the same direction. What is happening Zanny? Are you so into The Insider that you are not watching the podcasts. Yes, podcasts are more opinionated but this is just over the edge. They may lose me entirely.

Left Wing Trash
Nothing redeeming about their reporting. Their primary motivation seems to be to advance their liberal ideologies rather than any real economic information. Don’t waste your time.

Luckily we don’t live in a bubble. The earth has an amazing way to cleanse itself or we would all be dead from ww1andww2 and the many hundreds of nuclear tests. And Save the planet nuclear meltdowns etc. oil seems to be a natural re accuring resource. Wind farms kill everything around them. Including the sea floor around them seem to be dead zones. Why don’t you care about that? Oil and natural gas are plentiful and safe. More lifted out of poverty because of those than anything else. More lives saved from natural disasters by those than anything else. Battery’s? No magic batteries sorry there toxic no way to recycle and are burning some to death when caught in or near them. Fossil fuels are a myth. A sales pitch to make it seem they will run out. We will be long gone before that happens.

Too many obituaries
Lately it feels like there are three obituaries a week. I listen to the intelligence to get a quick overview of current events while getting ready in the morning. The obituaries don’t fit that goal. Maybe give them their own separate show that can be punished when relevant?

Hard to Cancel & Annoying Ads
A ruthless subscription service makes it hard to cancel and keeps on charging my credit card. Don’t give them your card number.

Please don’t minimize the epstein files or emails. It’s not just about “files” it’s about powerful men abusing children. It’s really not as irritating as per this reporters comment. As a reminder, these files contain names of those men who forced sex on children and the odds of the US president and half the government (democrats AND republicans) are very likely. So yeah, anything regarding EPSTEIN FILES is equally as big as a government shutdown. Come on, Economist, you know better than to express your opinions. Facts are why we’re here.

So many ads for paid subscription
Subscription price goes up while The Economist crams even more ads into Intelligence AND paywalled shows. This is disgraceful. Double dipping is sketchy and dishonest. I won’t be subscribing if it continues.

Anne Rowe: extraordinary Obit. Editor…
The people who’ve passed would most certainly feel honored by her portraits. Well done Ms. Rowe. I’ll stay subscribed just to hear your obituaries. Thank you.

Kim Jung Swaggart
I could not believe my ears when I heard the hagiographic nonsense obituary they posted for Jimmy Swaggart, a religious fundamentalist and ideologue of the worst type. You would have thought that the woman who was reading this was speaking about Mother Teresa or someone who at least tried to help a fellow human being. This guy was as horrible of a hypocrite as they come and like Trump, not worthy of the second thought After he leaves the planet

Wack.
For “economists” you’re incredibly biased. It’s as if Hamas reporting lower numbers because they are guilty of sacrificing their own men, women, and children isn’t incredibly obvious and well reported. Y’all don’t even question it as a factor, it’s so weird to me. Especially as economists, ya’ll do more political finger pointing than deciphering the data….which is not what economics is about.

Checks and balance
Checks and balance missing from podcast feed. Started happening around 4/18/25. Why is that?

Not Engaging
I’m sorry but relative to platforms like The Daily, WSJ, and NPR, Economist Podcasts is dreadfully boring. The reporting and discussions are stale and lack fervor to keep listeners engaged and tuned in. The content creation needs a shakeup.

Losing our minds over Trump
Seems like commentary is increasingly Leftist. Most of your concerns are over DOGE cuts. No real discussion of all of the fraud and waste being found in government. No talk of massive deficit and doing something about it. Sounds like a highbrow elitist discussion of horrors of cutting bloated government. Becoming very difficult to listen to. Glad when subscription ends.

Bring Jon Fasman back
Checks and Balances isn’t what it once was without Jon Fasman. Idriss’ smug attitude is unwelcome. I missed Jon Fasman as soon as he left, but especially since Elon took over the treasury payment systems three weeks ago, Idriss didn’t indicate that his pulse was elevated in the slightest. As we endure a power grab in America and are losing what’s best about our values as a nation, we need Jon Fasman back with us.

Par excellence
I am a business professor and ex-industry consultant. The Economist never economises, neither on its rigour nor on its relevance. Thrillingly factual work! Just the right amount of capital intelligence injection to finance our intellectual deficits, so known and most unknown (for me). What a publication and what brilliant coverage. My only recommendation would be to move a little more from a slight left-to-center lEuropean liberalism to a bit more centrist tone and parlance. Ecce Economist!

TRAILER: Spam Inc
Seriously, love the publication, love the podcast. But getting a notification every other day for their new special ‘Scam Inc’ is absolutely ridiculous.
TinyBigTree
Great brief of world events.
As another reviewer notes, the bad reviews come from people who can't stand Trump *and* people who can't say a bad thing about Trump. That tells you everything you need to know. This is a direct, balanced report on major news.

Unbalanced
I want to like the Economist more, because it has some good programming with interesting stories, but the political reporting is always slanted. Why? Anything conservative or right leaning seems to be bashed by the Economist’s reporters. It really is off putting and why I am giving the program two stars.
IskanderMakedon
I subscribe….
The Economist is getting my scathing 1* review because it’s actually just a sub par predictive news agency. The fact they spent a half year yapping about a close thing that was a Trump blowout showed me that they are just like all the other entertainment news agencies out there and are, in the best interpretation, just not very good or, in the worst interpretation, knowingly misleading.

Thought provoking and then your bias
Inflation, energy policy blunders, electric car market crashing, looming recession, 2 wars, all on the Biden-Harris Administration and yet Trump is the greater threat? Shame on your lack of perspective. Your bias has clouded your vision. Inflation, poor energy policy, and wars can all get worse, and leaving the same players in the game is not how we turn the page. How many people must die in these wars? how many families must save for another 4 years for a car or a home? I’m ashamed of you, you can’t help your readers if you can’t see clearly.

All the low ratings
When the low ratings are from different sides of the spectrum you know you found something worse listening to. Idk if I always agree, but the coverage is balanced, useful and thought provoking

Double standards need checks and balances
Prideaux! Actual empathy is not “scripted.” The room y’all are giving trump to be trump vs the standard other candidates have and continue to be held to is ridiculous. That’s not journalism. To quote Weller, “That’s Entertainment.”

Biased and overpriced
The Economist seems determined to “both sides” the 2024 POTUS race. I have no patience for “journalists” who pretend Trump is a reasonable candidate. Romney would be a normal candidate. Trump is a convicted criminal. I can’t take this news org seriously anymore.

Still enjoy the podcasts. But I pay for a subscription, but I still get ads in the pods. Won’t subscribe again.

Checks and Balances
Very poor form for a British “journalist” to be making all sorts of demeaning comments about the US Electoral College system. It works as designed to spread electoral power more evenly across the broad expanse of the country.

Blatantly biased and medically ignorant
I hear misogyny and racism. There is also ignorance and misinformation regarding medical conditions such as both type 1 and type 2 diabetes — potentially dangerous misinformation.

Concise and informative
A great way to keep up with the top global stories in a concise and informative way. I especially appreciate that I can listen in 3 times a day and not get bombarded with constant notifications
Life's a marathon
Excellent analysis. Annoying ads.
As always, the Economist offers up outstanding insights on current events. As a paid subscriber, I would have hoped that they would throttle back the volume of ads just a little bit.

Boom! goes the dynamite!
Have been missing John Prideaux on Checks the last few months, but the Boom podcast is well worth it! Can’t wait for the rest of the episodes to be released! Thank you all for the fantastic journalism!

Disappointed
I was disappointed to hear the podcast encourage/celebrate animal testing on the June 18, 2024. Not very progressive. I usually enjoy listening and subscribe, but am reconsidering.

Gaslighting Americans on behalf of Biden
A few weeks ago, there was an episode where they discussed why Americans perceived the economy as being so bad when "really" it was actually doing well. I think we know what we're experiencing with the economy. That episode was just an attempt to gaslight us to try to get people to have a more favorable view of Biden. I've been listening to this podcast since 2017, and it used to be great. What happened? Why has it become so biased?

Xenophobic garbage
For every one podcast they make that’s illuminating and worth listening to, they make ten that are so shamelessly angled to their own interests that it’s no longer worth listening. Drum Tower is especially egregious.

Very misleading ads by the America petroleum Institute. Seriously why are you sponsored by the American petroleum Institute?

Our allies and our responsibilities
Our Asian allies are much more committed to there self defense than most of our European allies.I believe we should match or exceed their commitment if necessary. Our NATO allies have been slacking in their efforts and need to step up their efforts. The Chinese threat is much more urgent currently , even though the Russian threat is active. Australia is included in my Asian assessment. We need to find a balance of meeting our commitments and not bankrupting our nation!

Loved the Should I Own a Gun episode. Very thoughtful and objective.
As a retired, 20-year Army veteran with Desert Storm and Iraqi freedom experience, I always enjoyed live-fire weapons training. Yet, while consistently qualifying expert with hand guns, rifles, and grenades, etc., I’ve never had the desire to own a personal weapon. I respect responsible gun ownership, while feeling concerned about the consequences irresponsibility has wrought on our society. Great podcast!!

arrogant propaganda for the rich and powerful
the economist serves the same purposes today as it did when it justified slavery, colonialism, and war in the 1800s - to give an intelligent and benevolent *expert opinion* appearance to the propaganda of mass murderers. no change, perhaps even more arrogant and detached from the reality of most people today

Disappointed - for the eighth time
I am a long time listener to all the Economist’s podcasts and I have always appreciated their non-partisan approach to news that is impossible to get in the US. However your new series, the Weeknd intelligence, shows a clear, left-wing biased in the stories they report. How disappointing. If I want partisan tripe, I can watch MSNBC or Fox News. I hope the Economist doesn’t turn into such an organization. The world needs the old Economist back.
