Not terrible
Not bad, but the intros are way too long and there are so many inaccuracies that it can be annoying at times.

Still a good podcast but
Miss some of the early episodes, those were some of my favorites :(

This is my favorite podcast. Not just favorite Beatle podcast, but my favorite anything podcast. Robert is so well-informed and such a fan and amazing host that every episode is filled with a new take or an interesting guest or a fresh analysis. But you don't have to be a Beatles/Music obsessive to enjoy the episodes. Itās just great storytelling in general and a remarkable show overall. Bravo!!!

By far the most honest and enjoyable podcast on the Beatles!
I discovered this podcast literally by accident in 2019 when I was on the Fabcast facebook page. I had been following that podcast for a year and stumbled upon a SATB episode where Robert was talking to Chip Madinger and Mark Easter about the remastered version of Eight Arms to Hold You. I was hooked from then on. Thank you Robert for providing years of enjoyment with amazing conversations with some of the most knowledgeable Beatles people. I look forward to every episode. Well done!

Olympiad
I agree that Garyās comments are often weak and the whole Olympiad thing is kinda silly. But to the guy who took Gary to task for saying that āFor you Blueā featured a lap steel (and not just a slide), you are wrong. It absolutely is a lap steel.

Ep 306
I love this podcast and have listened to most if not all the episodes.
All of the Olympiad shows with Gary Wenstrup make me nuts. He truly comes across to me as someone who knows nothing about the Beatles and less about music. Is there something Iām missing about this guy. Iāve tried and tried but I had to draw the line at his repeated use of lap steel. It was never a lap steel. Itās just slide. There are numerous things that he said the were dopey and lacked musical and Beatles knowledge but thatās where I had to draw the line.

For every kind of fan
There are other Beatles podcasts that are great in very specific ways, but there is no better overall show surveying every aspects of the Beatles from before their beginnings to where their legacy may go next.
Each episode tends to be a bit of a deep dive, but with such a broad back-catalogue thereās something for everyone; whether youāre a fan who likes some of the tunes to a die-hard scholar with intense opinions about the musical and interpersonal ramifications of Rishikesh. Choose one that seems interesting, and Iām sure youāll be drawn into curiosity about other episodes youād never have considered.
As the eminence grise of Beatles podcasting, Robert gets an amazing range of guests, some of them surprisingly important to the world of the Beatles, and treats each one with unfailing respect.

Robert is an excellent communicator and listener, extremely knowledgeable, and has a wide array of guests. Something About the Beatles has something for everyone.

Good show but episodes are being changed
Been a massive fan of this show for several years, but I've noticed that ever since it became part of the Evergreen Podcast network, someone has been going back and editing out all Beatles recordings from the episodes. These recordings were a crucial part of the show, often being sourced from rare tapes to illustrate points being made by the hosts and guests, and now they're erased. I can only assume someone from Evergreen twisted the host's arm into going back and deleting them all out of some half-baked legal concern, but this clearly falls under Fair Use. Very disappointing.

Love the female voices! MORE PLEASE
I canāt get over the multiple perspectives that are provided on this show. How cool is that. We need all these ideas to better understand our Beatles worldā¦. And Robert brings that. Perfect? What is? But exploratory and curious? Yes! You do not have to like it all to appreciate the efforts. I like to know what is out there, especially if I disagree with it. I feel like I just understand the field better. I also love listen to all the first generation fans and many of the female voices! Candy Leonard, Debbie Gendler, PATTIE BOYD, Christine Feldman-Barrett, Allison Bumsted, Erin Weber⦠and others!!! SO MUCH ROOM FOR MORE! I really did love hearing Pattie⦠she felt so close!

Great Variety, Wide Topics
The best thing about Something About the Beatles is that it makes me think. I have studied the Beatles to a great extent and find Robert and his guests add layers of nuance to the experience! I enjoy those whose views widely differ from mine as much as the ones who hit the nail on the head! lol How many decades can this continue? Letās see! Cheers!

Great till you invite on conspiracy theorists
Love the pod but giving a David Whelan a platform to spread his unsubstantiated āsecond shooterā theory of John Lennonās murder is a serious error in judgment.

the oldest, maybe the first⦠and still my Fave Beatles podcast!
SATB was the first truly in depth and intelligent podcast dedicated to the many aspects of the Beatles career and impact I can remember finding. Getting down to that granular level. Love it!
been listening for almost 10 years now! we are very grateful.
thanks to Robert and crew <3

A Hard Dayās Night
Iām listening to your podcast on a Hard Dayās Night turning 60. The comment by the gal who said she lived in Hicksville Americaā¦my family had recently moved to Loco Hills, New Mexico from northeastern Oklahoma. Loco Hills probably had a population of 200. I saw a Hardās Night in Artesia, NM, the nearest town of any size where we shopped for groceries and clothing. I was 9 years old, and I already loved the Beatles, of course I had seen them on Ed Sullivan on our old black and white tv. I had a Beatles hair bow, fake black velveteen that had all their names in white and of course I had Beatles boots. Later on I was the first girl in Loco Hills to sport white gogo boots with fishnet stockings š

Beatles Breakup
Apologies if youāve covered this theory before and I missed it. Theory: what if John pulled himself out of the Beatles because he felt his songwriting abilities were diminishing while George was coming on strong. Paul was on fire of course. Could it have entered his mind that he might become āthe Georgeā with a couple songs on each album? He wasnāt too helpful with George songs on the White Album. What if he saw a George as an incoming threat? The good looking guy whoās talking to your wife at a party. We all assume John loved his White Album songs as much as we do. But what if John didnāt love them but āonly liked themā⦠knowing they werenāt āhitā songs in his competition with Paul. Heād already done the āNo Ego thingā with LSD. If he didnāt think his songs were āBeatlesā Qualityā that could explain his fear of George overtaking him in the band. In Johnās mind the songs George contributed to Abbey Road might have really triggered self-doubt. If John goes solo he can avoid direct competition. I know you can shoot holes in this theory⦠but at least give it a little thought. LOVE YOUR SHOW!!!

Essential Beatles Content
Iāve become pretty obsessed with this podcast over the past couple of years. It has seen me through many long afternoons at work and has added to my enjoyment of The Beatles work. Robert is a great host; knowledgeable and witty. If youāre looking for engaging and balanced Beatle content then SATB is the podcast for you.

I just can't
I can't handle the ad-breaks, often mid-song or mid-sentence. It's maddening! Unsubscribing after six years. :-(

Great Podcast - Only One Gripeā¦
I donāt give a flying fuuq about Robert and the guest always nostalgia tripping about the first time they heard [x song] from [x compilation] from [x record store in BFE]. Iām trying to gain some insight into the greatest band of all time, not hear about how your big bro left out a scratched up copy of Sgt. Pepper with some brick weed on top, and it blew your little freshman mind. I DONāT CARE.
Otherwise, pretty great though.

Best Beatles Pod
I binged nearly all these episodes after I was recommended it by my biggest Beatles fanatic friend. Robert has the all the info and the best takes. Also, really appreciate his vocal style and delivery; chill and friendly. Winter of Discontent episodes really prepared me to be the overly-informed person while watching the Get Back doc with friends. Looking forward to an episode on Now and Then! Thanks for everything!

Best Beatles Podcast!
Robert knows his facts and backs up much of his discussion with documented analysis. I didnāt grow up with the Beatles, but listening to this show has given me a greater appreciation of the their craftsmanship as songwriters and performers. As a history student I appreciate the approach to discussing a topic that has had its issues of myth verses truth over the decades. Thanks Robert for being a balanced and accurate discussion to Beatle fans.

great podcast, hard to listen to <3
i love this podcast! as a younger beatles fan in her 20s, iām loving this! unfortunately, the episodes seem to skip around and it makes it really hard to listen to. i really hope this gets fixed because i love this itās very informative! but the skipping around makes it incomprehensible <3 peace and love i canāt wait till this is fixed :)

Great show!
Love your show, always enjoy listening to each new podcast and learning something new. Also like that you have a balanced, fair approachā¦donāt always see that with Beatles podcasts.
Woke up, got out of bed
Love the show. Hate the broken playback.
Commercials always starting and resuming mid-sentence, parts repeating... it's difficult listening and I often find myself giving up now. I don't know if it's the show or Apple, but I really hope it gets fixed.

Playback Glitches
Does anyone else have trouble with segments of this podcast being out of sequence with abrupt starts and stops?
Update: another episode, another glitch. kinda of ridiculous that this problem still persists. Come on Robert! how about fixing this problem for the sake of your loyal listeners!

Excellent Beatles inside scoops!
Remarkably insightful and very educational and really very fair handed where sometimes you have to be careful because the people aren't there to defend themselves and so forth but a lot of substantiation is given for statements that are made, and I think this is one outstanding podcast!

The best Beatles podcast!
Still the best Beatles podcast, but the playback glitches on Apple pods makes it frustrating at times. I would recommend just going to the SATB website and listen from there.

Amazing podcast, but playback errors
Basically a perfect Beatles podcast, with tons of fascinating isolated tracks and alt takes. The only thing is, each episode skips ahead out of nowhere (seemingly around the 40:00 minute mark)

Love the podcast butā¦..
Iām encountering a lot of āediting glitchesā as one previous reviewer commented. Someone please give these episodes a listen before posting. Theyāre all over the place! Otherwise, Iāve really been enjoying the podcast. Tons of great, well researched content. Keep up the good work but please proof the episodes before posting.

Editing glitches?
I enjoy this podcast. I just finished listening to the Ray Connolly episode and there were lots of bits that repeated and were out of order. Iām not sure if itās editing, technical issues or whatever. Not trying to be a whiner but wanted to bring it to your attention. Thanks for the informative entertainment!

Great! IF you can get past the intro
Iām a lifelong Beatles fan, which means Iāve been listening to them for over 40 years. Iāve read dozens of books, own every record, know the history inside and out etc. That said, this podcast is fine, IF you can get through the insanely lengthy, pointless, self-serving, cliche ridden, introduction of every single show. As I write this, a nearly 14 minute introduction is on right now from the latest episode. Iām done with it for that reason. There are better Beatles podcasts, which are equally knowledgeable, done with humor, because the hosts realize that this is supposed to be fun-not a gravely important topic with an even more self-important host.

Impressive Body of Work
Recently found Robert and SATB through Twitter and following up on Peter Jackson appearances pre the Get Back release. I have been binging on SATB since December 2021 and taking it all in. Robertās level of commitment and research is outstanding. I learn something new every episode and overall the podcast makes me appreciate the Beatles even more and I have been a fan since the February 1964 Ed Sullivan appearance. Thank you Robert.

No 50th Annāy Abbey Road retrospective? Huh?
I mean we got Yellow Submarine at 50, but not Abbey Road? A lot of us feel itās the best of their albums. The lack of a thorough going over it of it, especially of the long medley, appears to be a glaring omission. Maybe the principal of this podcast doesnāt care for that album? Inconceivable, but itās hard to account otherwise for this gaping hole in Blackburn Lancashire.

Fantastic content and presentation
I stumbled upon this show following release of the Get Back. I wanted to hear what people were saying and this podcast was the jackpot! Three insightful episodes with wonderful content. I liked it so much I started scrolling backwards and found the pre-release episodes but didnāt realize PJ was the guest! Just awesome. I will listen to all six multiple times!

Great Beatles pod
One of the trifecta of brilliant Beatles podcasts, along with I Am The EggPod and Nothing Is Real. Lots of great info, along with knowledgeable guests. Both incarnations of the show are great.

better than the others but has some flaws
As far as Beatles podcasts go, this is about as good as it gets. It's a pretty low bar, though, because most of the others are unlistenable. I do miss the early days, when Richard was a co-host; he added some balance that is missing a little now.
Pros:
-Robert is extremely knowledgeable and has an uncanny ability to recall specific dates and other details. More than just trivia, this guy is like an encyclopedia.
-He doesn't dumb it down. This podcast is for the serious fan, and when Robert and his guests make some casual reference to Trident or Royal Iris or Jimmie Nicol, you'd better know what they're talking about because they're not going to stop to explain it.
-Robert and his guests rarely talk over each other or crack themselves up, which is usually the hallmark of an amateur podcast and, for me, a deal breaker.
Cons:
-Far too much time is spent on the mythology, backstory, and personal drama of the Beatles, leaving relatively little on the music itself. Unfortunately, this is far too common with Beatles podcasts. The only one I've found not to be guilty of this is "Producing the Beatles".
-Some of the topics are, at best, Beatles-adjacent. I mean, do we really need a longform interview with Mary Hopkin's daughter?
-The audio quality, particularly Robert's mic during the interviews, is often horrible.
-The editing can be weird, like the unnecessarily long fade-outs. But more than that, this podcast needs a fresh set of editing ears -- someone who can identify and chop out sections that run on too long without saying anything new.
-Robert is so far up his own backside, he has no idea how poorly he comes off.

Favorite Beatle podcast
This stands out from several very good Beatle podcasts due to the commentary by the host and his guests. In addition he plays great Beatle music. Varies topics from history to music and includes solo years. Look forward to new podcasts in 2022. I did like the old co host but his eclectic guests have made the transition a smooth one.

Great for those who love context
SATB has been a goldmine of deep dives of topics Iāve wanted to know more about.
This podcast doesnāt pretend the Beatles are flawless. It adds needed context to remind listeners the Beatles are 4 humans whoās personalities, talents, relationships, life events, ego, culture, substances, and history all come together in this perfect storm to make and break the Beatles.

Best Beatles podcast

The Best of the Best
As a long term Beatles fan I find this podcast the most thoughtful , informative and fair analysis of the cultural phenomenon known as the Beatles. In depth interviews including Peter Jackson combined with resources makes this the best of the best of the numerous Beatle fan podcasts out there
