I have listened to every episode of this podcast from beginning to end (latest episode as I’m writing this dated 06/30/26). I genuinely enjoyed the unique, feminist perspective Liv presented on myths and plays, and I especially appreciated her takes on the Spartan mirage, Atlantis, and stuffy old white men who ignored or did their best to destroy women’s impacts on all things Ancient Greek. However, I’ve grown increasingly frustrated by her harping on Christopher Nolan’s upcoming Odyssey movie (we get it, Matt Damon’s a poor choice; yes Liv, we agree this movie presents another white-washed Western take on the ancient Mediterranean, etc.) But with today’s episode, she abruptly made an about-face and started gushing over a special contest/sweepstakes event where she teamed up with a marketing firm to promote tickets for a pre-screening of The Odyssey in Toronto. And she will also be attending this pre-screening. That is correct—the woman who spent well over a year denouncing this movie and reading it to filth and beyond is going to actually see it, and she’s happy (?) to do so. Honestly, given Liv’s penchant for sarcasm, I’m not sure if she’s trolling her listeners, planning on giving The Odyssey the MST3K treatment, or something else entirely. Maybe she suffered a traumatic brain injury. Maybe she got strong-armed into signing a contract so she can earn the money she desperately needs to continue this podcast. Whatever the case, I find it insulting that someone who claims to be feminist and against Western patriarchy/colonial ideals is suddenly quite willing to see a movie she’s been hating on just to earn some coin. Sorry Liv, you lost me and my subscription. I hope the snacks at intermission are worth it.

The host successfully left the Greek culture enshrouded. She had some good ideas like an interactive map to accompany her endless discussions of battles. Alas, somehow she just didn’t get around to it lol

I came across this podcast back during the pandemic and I was desperate for something new. I had never gotten into podcasts before, but wanted something to feel like a conversation to remind me what normal times were like. Then this Olympus sent podcast comes to my attention. It had the conversation vibe I wanted. Liv is fun, funny, and unashamedly a nerd in the best way. AND I finally found a way to learn all about a myth or character in one location rather than a bunch of different books. Liv does such a great job compiling all the versions and authors in a way that you get a whole picture. I recommend this podcast to anyone who will listen and am finally writing my long overdue review.

When I am listening to a mythological or historical podcast, I am not there for contemporary politics or the host’s views on such. I follow political and news podcasts for that. So, I have to unfollow this show, again, as I tried to give it a second chance. I give it three stars, because otherwise it’s pretty good.

Hi Liv, I hope you get to read this. Your podcast gives me so much hope. The way that you are so fascinated by and care so much about the lives of the ordinary people of the ancient world has helped me put some of the things in my life into perspective and heal a little bit. It just brings me peace to know that in 1000 or so years there will be people like you who are so fascinated with and care so deeply for the lives of people like me. Thank you for loving the humans of the past. May some of them in the future love us too.

I’ve always loved Greek mythology since I was a young child. This podcast is great and gives you all the stories plus variations.

Just started this in 2026 and only on Odysseus journey but so far I love It. Liv tells a great story and I'm engulfed in all things Ancient Greece.

I’ve been holding off on writing a review because I wasn’t sure how I felt about the podcast. I love Greek mythology but do not want to buy dozens of books and read it myself. I enjoy the way Liv tells the stories and she is good at it. I could do without the sarcastic comments every single time a woman is mistreated, but she’s not wrong with them. It’s just a little annoying. However, despite my mixed feelings about these comments, Liv is good at telling these stories. And her cat, whose name I love because I am obsessed with Harry Potter, won me over. Hearing Lupin meow in the background and, I think, possibly occasionally rubbing on the mic, makes my heart happy. I’ve listened to all 2017-18 episodes and am still listening so I think she deserves the 4 stars. This podcast is not for everyone, but she clearly puts a lot of effort into it and I appreciate that. UPDATE: so I’m now in late 2022 and I just HAD to change to 5 stars. The content has drastically improved since I wrote my review. Liv is fantastic! I never thought the conversation episodes would be my thing but I just absolutely love them. I am certainly not the scholarly type. I have horrible ADHD and a very short attention span and I definitely struggle to focus. Sometimes I listen to episodes multiple times because of this but WOW the amount of information is wonderful! I really do learn so much information from them. So, thank you, Liv, for all the amazing content and I can’t wait to get caught up to 2025 (2026 in a couple days)!

I got into this podcast this summer, looking for something to listen to while I work. I became so engrossed and truly felt I was just sitting down for drinks with a good friend chatting about crazy stories of Greek mythology. Liv shines light on some rarely retold stories, the role of women in that ancient society, and just the goofy, wild lore that is SO fun to learn about. I’m almost caught up on episodes and will probably resort to listening again from the top bc I NEED MY FIX. Thanks for being you, Liv!

Liv is a self proclaimed person that believes in smashing the patriarchy… Even though she benefits from the blood, sweat and tears of hard working men, she has fuel for her car and the lights go on when she flips the switch and the plumbing infrastructure works when she wants to flush the , but has contempt for the men that provide that for her! Sadly, just like her generation females completely delusional about the intensity of infrastructure! I’ve been listening to this podcast for years but felt compelled to leave a review. Liv has such a contagious enthusiasm for myth that I absolutely adore, and their selection of guests always provide such rich insight and context to the world of mythology and ancient cultures. I recently listened to the Vestal Virgins episode with Peta Greenfield and especially appreciated their discussion on current events relating to Palestine, and the Sudan. There is so much to be gained by viewing our current circumstances through the lense of history and I for one am grateful this show has a host that does not shy away from reality, and leverages their platform to spread awareness.

I read a few Greek mythology books to escape the reality here in the US and then found this podcast. I love it so much and she does such a great job! I’m still in 2017 but I have 3.5 years to catch up so I’m excited to keep going!

Let me start by stating that I’m not your target demographic, I’m an old white dude living in the US (I didn’t vote for him). I stumbled upon your podcast by accident, but I loved myths back in high school and thought seems like fun. I was happily surprised about the way you present the myths and break them down. Your series on Atlantis was great (I knew it wasn’t real, always thought it was a myth, had no idea it was Plato’s fault) The conversation episodes where guests really dig into topics and explain the facts are enlightening. It’s been eye opening for me and has lead to some great conversations with my daughter. I maybe an old dog, but this show has taught me some new thoughts.

This is the total package. Never stop.

This podcast is stellar. Liv retells Greek myths in her own words through a feminist (and queer) lens. She’s got a rad sense of humor and hella deep appreciation of irony. And if you’re one of the wienies review-bombing this podcast, it’s clearly not for you. And that’s okay. Go listen to one of the dozens of ancient history/mythology podcasts hosted by basic white men.

As someone who identifies as Hellenistic myself, I appreciate that you address some of the more problematic themes that run through much of Greek religion, cough Zeus cough

The negative reviews here are funny and I hope they make people want to listen that much more. As someone with an actual degree in classical studies, I can say that it is necessary to reevaluate the translations and attitudes of scholars past. Outcomes were not good for human women in mythology and I find it refreshing and validating (as a woman myself) that Liv addresses not only this topic, but so many others. I feel like her focus really varies and this is a podcast anyone can enjoy. Li’l something for everyone. Keep it up, girl!

I started listening to Liv a little over a year ago. I started with the first episode and I’m finally in 2024 now! She has a great take on mythology. I’ve always loved myths but her portrayal made me love it more, even the messy parts. I love the experts that come on that give more historical background to the myths. I even love the reading episodes (can I now say that I’ve read Ovid’s Metamorphoses even tho it was read to me? I’m going with yes). Trigger warning: if you don’t like having to face the millennia of toxic masculinity that women have had to deal with, this pod isn’t for you.

I guess the podcast is attempting to be young and up to the minute. It falls flat. I come to an ancient history podcast to be enlightened. Too many other offerings to waste my time on this one.

This is a really fun podcast about Greek mythology (not put forward as fact) telling it plainly (with her understandable condemnation of the treatment of women), peppered with colorful language when she sees fit.

I’ve been listening to this podcast for a few months starting with episode 1 after hearing all the crossovers with Ancient History Fangirl, and I am soooo grateful for their connection that introduced me to Myths, Baby! Granted I still have 473 episodes to listen before I am up to date, but I am absolutely in love with this podcast! Super interesting AND entertaining and the feminism (and of course all other pushes for equality on every level) really is comforting to hear with everything going on in the world. I have become so obsessed I have ordered Liv’s books and once I’m caught up will likely join the Patreon. Highly recommend 10/10.

I found this podcast years ago, and had only listened to the first few episodes and liked it but didn’t really continue. Then, a few months ago needed something new to listen to at work, remembered this from so long ago, and now after only a couple few months am pretty much all caught up. It makes my otherwise incredibly boring day pass with excitement and intrigue, I especially enjoyed the little series on Sparta. Appreciate what you do ❤️

… the host seems to be carrying a lot of baggage. I was in a research mode, and found myself in a situation where I was moving a lot and couldn’t stop to read. So I looked up podcast episodes dealing with Zagreus. I found the information amazing, but the host is very hung up on modernist views and terminology like “the patriarchy.” It made her hard to listen to when I just wanted to hear the stories. Sure, call out Zeus for being a rapist! I was onboard for that blunt view, but your political take is eyeroll inducing. While I am curious as to her take on Minerva punishing Medusa for having been raped, I don’t think I can sit through another episode of her haughty whining. Tales of the Night Sky is a much better, more balanced show. She’s not afraid to say that many of the gods are jerks, but doesn’t feel the to blame anyone but the individuals.

I’ve been trying to get back into myths for a while now and started looking for podcasts. I found this by Chance and decided to listen because the name caught my attention. As I’ve been going through the episodes, I’ve noticed that I will listen to 5-6 at a time and not even realize it. Liv is very great with her story telling and hilarious, making it very easy to listen to. I’m working my way through old episodes to get caught up and it just keeps getting better. Definitely recommend giving it a listen.

Liv is an amazing storyteller and uncovers myths that I had forgotten. The lens that she tells these myths through is new and modern, which I appreciate. And it’s funny… like really funny. Truly a joy to listen to, and I wish I had all the time to listen to her podcast. Luckily, it’s been very useful when I’m teaching Greek myths to my high school students. Keep doing what you’re doing Liv! And down with the patriarchy!

Love this Podcast. And at the end, I agree, cause if that would have happen to any of my sister, aunts, mom or any of my female family members, you best know it, and I’m always giving the Female the benefit of doubt that she was, because, it will all of it will always come out in the rinse cycle. We shouldn’t think she’s not being honest about it, that’s what an investigation is for. Now, please don’t think I’m not unaware that lie’s can be told as well as we are always hearing how 10, 30, 50 years a innocent person was convicted of a crime they did not commit. However, this should be checked out, and it can be investigated without arresting anyone before the facts are pulled to the forefront. as you said, Women have been a class of people that were second and third no rights they were considered property, just like doing slavery when people from the African continent were forcibly taken and brought across the world to be treated like property both were wrong. Got to episode three and really really wanted to love it because I really enjoy Greek mythology and find the stories and myths so fascinating. However, the podcast was just too much about blaming the patriarchy and how everything is about men failing the world in every choice they make. I know humanity has its flaws, I see it every day. I listen to podcast because I love how they can take me out of my own world and headspace and take me on an adventure. I don’t need another person complaining in my ear and pushing their viewpoints in the name of ‘reviewing mythology’. History is full of amazing civilizations and their beliefs and I would have rather learned about that instead of the mistakes of my current society.

Wish this podcast was around when I was in school. It would’ve made learning about Greek mythology and Greek literature so much better. You don’t have to be intimidated to listen to this podcast. The podcast host breaks down each reading beautifully the guest speaker she has on are absolutely amazing. There’s a top of their fields and have a great perspective on Greek literature.She also likes to shed a light on some of the less popular Greek tragedies, and Works that I would not have been exposed to any other way. The only dangerous part of this podcast is after listening for a couple episodes you’re going to want to take that trip to Greece and see all the ruins and the places.Absolutely amazing please keep up all your hard work!!

I LOVE this podcast. The host, guest, stories, they’re great. It’s hard to listen to because the host’s mic is so quiet. Like, I have to turn on my volume up to max just to hear her and then when I get to a commercial I turn partially deaf. The sound is very unbalanced and it makes it hard to listen to, especially as someone who is hard of hearing.

i’ve been listening for about a year now and i have to say this is definitely my favorite way to listen about greek myths! i admit some of the earlier episodes were a bit slow but it’s the first episodes so i feel like that’s to be expected starting off, but it’s 100% worth sticking with. episodes only get better over time and she explains the stories in a way you can easily follow. plus i love how she ties in current issues to myths and uses her platform to try and do good despite everyone who’d rather ignore issues instead of talking about them, it’s refreshing to have someone who speaks her mind can’t wait for the next episode!❤️

I started from the very beginning about a year ago and haven’t stopped listening since! Liv is amazing and inspired part of an Italy trip I took last year. Her retellings and highlighting of silenced voices across myths is magical. I love this podcast!!
