The recent student-led uprising in India received international attention and forced concessions from the Modi government which was long seen as having few formidable political challengers at the national level. The movement has put a dent on the notion that the corporate-BJP nexus in India is infallible. Left student movements played a significant role in the success of the satirical 'Cockroach Janata Party' movement. We discuss the context of the movement, and touch upon various dimensions of the movement including the role of the media - both local and global. Is this a moment of hope for India?

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting New Zealand this weekend (July 10-11). A sold out public event 'Kia Ora Modi' has been organised at Spark Arena in Auckland to mark his visit. In the context of the recent India - New Zealand Free Trade Agreement, Destiny Church's Brian Tāmaki has announced a street protest against Modi during his visit. There will be counter protests too, against both Tāmaki and Modi.
In this episode Josephine speaks with Indian activists in Aotearoa, Sapna Samant, Oscar Romero and Anu Kaloti about a left perspective on the India-NZ FTA, the rising tide of anti Indian racism as well as how to locate Modi within the context of the US imperialism.

We speak with Education researcher and expert Richard Manning about far-right manipulation of the NZ History curriculum. This is being guided by a small preferred academic elite like Elizabeth Rata and Paul Moon, supported by the Atlas Network.
