luck /lʌk/：n. 运气；好

There is an ancient parable about a farmer

有一个关于一位农夫的古老寓言。

who lost his horse and neighbors came over to say, "Oh, that's too bad."

他丢了马，邻居们过来说：“哦，那太糟了。”

And the farmer said, "Good or bad, hard to say."

农夫却说：“好还是坏？还很难说。”

Days later, the horse returns and brings with IT seven wild horses.

几天后，那匹马回来了，还带回了七匹野马。

And neighbors come over to say, "Oh, that's so good."

邻居们又过来说：“哦，那太好了。”

And the farmer just shrugs, says, "Good or bad, hard to say."

农夫只是耸耸肩，说：“好还是坏？还很难说。”

The next day, the farmer’s son rides one of the wild horses, is thrown off and breaks his leg.

第二天，农夫的儿子骑其中一匹野马，被摔下来，摔断了腿。

And the neighbors say, "Oh, that's terrible luck."

邻居们说：“哦，那真是倒霉透了。”

And the farmer says, "Good or bad, hard to say."

农夫说：“好还是坏？还很难说。”

Eventually officers come knocking on people's doors looking for men

to draft for an army and they see the farmer’s son and his leg

and they pass him by 

最后，军官们来挨家挨户敲门，要征召男人入伍，

他们看到农夫的儿子和他的腿，就绕过了他，

and neighbors say,"Oh, that's great luck."

and the farmer says, "Good or bad, hard to say?"

邻居们说：“哦，那真是好运。”农夫说：“好还是坏？还很难说。”
