Black History & Memoir
I’ve been a fan of Ray Christian when I first heard him on a episode of Snap Judgment several years ago. I loved his first iteration of What’s Ray Saying and the current one. If you love Black history with a mix of life stories that are funny and fascinating, then this show is right for you!!!

Masterful Storyteller and Compelling Stories
Ray’s storytelling is like listening to an Elder or that family friend you couldn’t wait to see. I learn some things about history that I didn’t know, laugh and sometimes cry. I look forward to every episode. I am learning new things about my own humanity.

Tuck in and Listen
The combination of Ray’s voice, knowledge of history, and talent for storytelling make this an amazing podcast. I love his learning his experience on places I’ve also lived (Virginia and Appalachia). Ray, do you narrate any audiobooks? It would make a wonderful listen. I’d also love to read a memoir or short stories written by Ray.

Captivating storyteller
I just discovered Ray’s podcast through The Moth, and subscribed to his own podcast after hearing just one of his episodes. That is very rare for me, but Ray is a phenomenal storyteller and I can’t wait to hear what else he decides to grace us with in the future.

A dynamic look at topics we NEED to hear about!
Thank you so much for this. I need to hear about experiences outside of my own and this podcast offers a real look at topics in a way I can’t experience but need to better understand. Beautifully done and thoughtful- SO GOOD!!

Can’t wait for the return!
I first heard Ray on Risk! and am glad that he’s coming back to provide historical context to the black experience in modern America. Follow-up after listening to the season conclusion: absolutely epic. With the addition of high quality production and professional sound design, this podcast really hit its stride. I eagerly await the next season! Keep up the great work, Ray and team!

So glad he’s back!
I loved listening to the earlier iteration of his show, and was disappointed when there was a long lapse in content. I was thrilled when I saw that there were new episodes. The recent changes have been great. It seems that Ray has a team behind him now so that he can focus on what he does best —writing and storytelling. And I think because of that support, the episodes are longer and really fleshed out, not to mention the improved production quality. Currently I’m trying to avoid binge listening what’s available because I know I’ll be sad when they run out and I’ll have to wait patiently for new episodes. Keep ‘em coming!

Every episode is a gem
Ray has lived a fascinating life, and is an expert at sharing it in a thoughtful, engaging manner. This addictive mix of history, storytelling, family lore, philosophy, and personal narrative is unlike anything I’ve ever heard on a podcast. It doesn’t hurt that he possesses a speaking voice that would make an hour of him reading from a phone book a treat. Bravo, Ray. You have created something pretty special here.

Amazing stories
I found the podcast through Snapped. I quickly realized his wife was my professor at ASU. I loved her stories in school, and I love hearing your stories here. Thank you for continuing my education in the form of a podcast!

Love Listening to Ray
The first time I heard Ray was on Snap Judgement. After that first story, I was so glad that he was a periodic feature on the show because all his stories are special. So, now that he has his own show, being able to listen to him regularly is a treat. I loved the episode on The Sound of My Voice because it gave great insight into how he came to be the voice that we hear today. Keep going, Ray! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Young brother from bama !!

Blacks and Indians
Your raydo of intro music is really classy and enjoyable. The History I was taught was completely whitewashed. Buffalo Soldiers must’ve been quiet the sight to behold. As with the Tuskegee Airmen whose fighter squadron never lost a B-52 boomer under their command

Give this man a National Public Radio Show!
Refreshing and real. Stands above typical public radio. Americans need someone to speak to our true experience. How raw it can be for the majority of us not born into the upper and middle classes. The brutality of caste here in the USA. The unaddressed trauma of slavery, Jim Crow and continuous racism. Appreciate the understanding he brings to the Black experience, the history and inside perspective. Ray as a presenter and host is a pleasure. This podcast has easily become one of my favorites. Brave, and honest. Voices like Ray are essential to bring America to the beloved community. He speaks beautifully to the hardest topics which perpetually go unaddressed.

Love you Ray!
I don’t usually write reviews on here, but Ray Christian is such an excellent storyteller and 100% deserves a 5 star review. I originally heard him on The Moth, Snapped and Spooked. Glynn Washington mentioned this podcast and I was immediately hooked. I listened to it years ago and am re-listening now. I just saw a review that someone posted; the person gave Ray a one star review because he didn’t agree with something Ray said about Obama(?!)That’s another reason why I decided to finally write my first Apple Podcasts review, to cancel out that doofus’s review. The Doofus probably writes reviews on Amazon based on the speed of the delivery.

Support
Hello Ray, Recently, I discovered your podcast and would like to support its continuation. I annually subscribe to another podcast and would like to do the same with this one. How do I do it?
Whip1!
Thank you Mr. Ray
Hi mr. Christan, I just wanted to reach out and thank you for the speech you gave on the Moth radio hour. That story was told so well and I related to it in that I myself was diagnosed with PTSD. I struggle with the tears whenever I see or hear something that touches my heart. It’s embarrassing and it keeps me from going to church, for there is where I see and feel the most beauty. I’ve prayed over & over about it asking God to make me stop but it never does. But you see the reason I’m writing is because I never knew that these two things were linked together. Now I’m going to look into this more deeply but first I had to say than you most sincerely.,I thought I was the only one. I hope this reaches you. I don’t know how to deal with it. But I’m going to find out!

Liked your podcast till this one
Your comments about Obama I found not true. Had nothing to do with his color!! He was a great speaker and got elected for that reason. His second term was corrupt. Both him and his Bo Biden. Nothing to fobb no with race!

Great stories of the lived Black experience
There is something about Ray's voice, humor and depth that always draws me in. Authentic and unique, I first heard him on other podcasts, then looked him up and found this one. I'm an older white Californian woman who, when growing up, never knew much about the horrors of racism. Ray's voice is compelling snd full of personal insight, for those who want to know more. This man knows how to tell a story! And once you see the through-lines of slavery and Jim Crow into the present day; the need to move forward with positive activism gets a lot clearer.

Brilliant
It feels as though the momentum to confront racism is crumbling under the entropy of moral fatigue, primarily white moral fatigue. Many white people who’re growing “bored” with activism would say, in part, it’s because they don’t see why it’s “so bad for blacks” and they’re “tired of being preached to” by activists. Dr. Ray tells his stories in ways that are too honest and straightforward to discount as identity politics/agenda driven activism, and too fact based to brush off as “preaching” or foisting guilt onto white people. He speaks truth, not to power, but to people. All Americans would grow better for having heard Dr. Rays stories.
