I have been listening to this podcast for a few years now, and it never fails to entertain and educate. While I am not myself an engineer, I am fascinated by all things mechanical and enjoy a history lesson as well. The chemistry of the two hosts, James and Luke is a rare one, and I liken it to Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond from TopGear/GrandTour.

I really enjoy listening to these two nerd out about all things engineering! If you’re looking to be educated by some enthusiast peers on a wide variety of topics, this is the place for you! You’re basically just invited to listen to a couple friends have a conversation. It’s great for introverts like me who don’t have the time to research everything interesting. Enjoy!

I started listening to Unprofessional Engineering about 9 months ago when I started my job as a controls engineer. Long trips on the road made podcasts a necessity and these guys cover everything in an easily digestible way that won’t bore you like the others. Would recommend to any wannabe engineers or engineering enthusiasts!

As a long-time listener who had to take a hiatus from podcasts to play endless episodes of Bluey for a toddler, I would just like to say that the latest episode is a banger. You can really feel the platonically sensual tension of two great minds finally getting to see each other face to face again —and as always— discussing stuff in a silly but informative way. Five stars.

I found it while looking for a decent science/technology podcast to help me kill boredom during long hours on the road. Their lightweight approach to complex topics is a guarantee that nearly anyone from all backgrounds will get a grasp of the core concepts of whatever they’re talking about. And naturally I’m also writing this review to screenshot it and send to James to get my stickers because I’m the worst

I found this podcast series after my son got accepted into the UIUC Mech-E program. I was looking for topics to talk about with him and I have become addicted to the podcast. I listen to the older episodes everyday on my way to/from work. Mostly accurate, very entertaining and way better then listening to the news everyday! Looking forward to some stickers (in a few months). How about a show on UIUC Grainger School of Engineering and/or Hydrogen as a source of sustainable energy?

Guys, you have the best show around! All the episodes are super interesting and entertaining. Some of the topics I never had a interest in but after hearing a show about them have a whole new appreciation for them at a minimum if not a interest to research on my own! Keep up the great work!

Fantastic podcast with classic jokester hosts. You can find any type of topic you may be interested in and get a full breakdown of it’s beginnings and the more complex functions of it today. If you love wild fun facts about random topics you’ll love this podcast.

I enjoy listening in every morning on my way to school. Some topics (Torture Devices) are better than others, but every episode I’ve listened to so far has been quite entertaining and informative. I definitely recommend giving this podcast a listen as long as you can understand what sarcasm is!

James and Luke have the best dynamic of any podcast I have ever listened to before. They are both great in their own right, but together, they are a dream team! This podcast is an amazing way to learn about diverse topics, and I can’t recommend it enough.

Great podcast by some guys who don’t take themselves too seriously. Fun to listen to and learn, along with some occasional insults and good humor. Their topics run the gamut of all things engineering or things close to engineering (or sciency or whatever). It’s entertaining and a great way to end the workday drive home. Definitely recommend!

This is probably one of my favorite podcasts. These cats are funny, smart and witty. I’m an engineer and this is perfect when I want to learn about a topic at a high level (and sometimes even a deeper level). I vote they create a patreon page, everyone give them big time podcast money and let them make 3-4 episodes a week. This 1 podcast a week is terrible for my lack of patience. And I’ve heard almost every podcast once, several twice.

I Love this podcast. I listen whenever new episodes come out! I love it because it’s like a science comedy paradox and Luke’s Rants are awesome! Love you guys James and Luke!

Love the podcast! Especially going to work early in the mornings! It definitely keeps me awake. Also, I really enjoy the topics discussed. Sometimes I wish the information given was more in depth as I like to learn but at the same time I would be falling asleep if it was lol. I really enjoy the podcast though and all the episodes that I wish there was better research for, I have just done that on my own time! Thanks for keeping it chill and keep up the work guys!

Love the content, but could change a couple things. 1) Should put the sponsor section at the beginning or end, not the middle. 2) love Luke but is the rant reallyyyy necessary. 3) James should calm down a bit with the pretentious attitude 😬 no disrespect just a comment hehe. But overal great podcast I love it. Great content and a good concise length.

In my opinion, a good podcast (especially stem podcasts) should be extremely informative under a short amount of time. These people are not well versed, say the most surface level information about subjects, and don't do proper research most of time time. I am shocked that I am a college student, yet know more about the subjects than these people. I understand that this information can be informative for the average person that isn't in the engineering industry, but still ... such a waste of time, read a book instead.

By far the best engineering podcast I have come across since sliced bread!

Really fun and great podcast to listen to. As a college engineering student, it’s a really fun listen and I get to hear about interesting topics and learn things I never knew before. The hosts are great and no matter the topic, the make it entertaining.

I listen to this a lot it is funny and I learn a lot. At ten years old I can understand everything James and Luke are fantastic they are great they release episodes regularly about 1 a week

I am only 9 but I love it! I want to be an engineer when I am a grown up and it might sound weird that I listen to it at 9 but I can understand everything thing and it is clean so I love it!

Went back to school for mechanical engineering later in life. This podcast keeps me excited about engineering even when the upper division curriculum is trying to beat the excitement out of me. Keep up the great work.

Just started listening to you this morning when I queried podcasts for “how does cryptocurrency work?”. I’ve only listened to 3 episodes so far but I’m on the train! James and Luke do a great job of explaining everyday and not so common engineering items to their listeners. I truly appreciate the mix of history technology and comedy in each of their episodes.
