This podcast was the first one that I ever listened to and it was absolutely incredible. Would love to hear another season on similar topics.

Season 2 - Los Angeles was a great listen

I sat through this podcast alternately angry and so very hurt. I grew up in Jersey City and the amount of gentrification sweeping through the city is out of control. My parents have people ringing their doorbell on a regular basis.

I can’t wait to see where else this podcast goes. I’m hoping after this season of Miami you guys explore the Gentrification that is happening in Washington, DC.

The reporting here is super in-depth — WAY more comprehensive than I was expecting. You hear from people losing their homes and being pushed out, and also gentrifiers and real estate folks and developers themselves. A very fair show examining ALL sides of the issue.

This is a good podcast but I don’t think it’s about white and black - a lot of developers especially in California are foreigners. They are international business people coming here with money to buy up property. I live in Southern California and Ive met all kinds of international cultures with tons of money. In Your first episode you can here the accent when the developer is on on the phone talking.

I am doing a big, long term project on something related to gentrification and this gave me some really great insight on the subject! Love the nuance infused here.

One of my favorite podcast . It’s bitter sweet listening to it . I feel for the families that are being put out of their homes/apartments in NY & LA .

This series has really helped me understand all of the things that I’ve been seeing around me. I have lived in Brooklyn for the last 10 years. I feel like this podcast not only speaks to me, but that it’s ABOUT me. A must for anyone who’s having any kind of conversation about gentrification in the US.

Great reporting from different points of views not just one.

The story telling and commentary on gentrification is really good

I listen to this podcast only because it solidifies my beliefs and reinforces my life experiences. I truly can’t stand the anti-white dirty liberal hypocrite authors and contributors of this series. One thing that drives me absolutely crazy is this concept of gentrification as being bad and the term is nothing more than a euphemism for “white” people. Among the highly irritating concepts of this show is the idea that white-flight is negative, somehow racist in nature and presented as such over and over. But in the same breath, I hear contributors making comment that “now that “they” (white people) are moving into our community, our latino or black culture is disappearing”, mind you this being said with the underlying tone of anger and hatred. Well wait a god damned second; according to you it’s not okay for white people to want to leave their established communities because the racial and ethnic makeup is changing and they want to move and reestablish a new all white community because they want to be with people of their own kind. But it’s perfectly okay on your show and not racist at all for black or mexican hosts and/or commentators to espouse disgust filled comments about their culture disappearing because of white people moving back into their old communities!?!?! White people cant be racist for wanting to maintain their culture and yet mexicans and blacks are somehow not racist for wanting their own culture and to be with only people like themselves. You are hypocrites. Another point of contention I have about this podcast is that only one side of the “gentrification” story is being told and presented, the side of the non-white, English speaking perspective (spare me your rebuttal about the fact that one author, or this commentator is white, self loathing white guilt people in my opinion lose the right to be white). What about the other side of this coin!?!? What about the slumification of communities? I used to live in a white collar all white community that till just a couple of years ago had a near zero crime rate, absolutely zero graffiti and trash on the streets, and a town in which most people didn’t even lock their doors at night. What about us? Ever since developers added hundreds of new cheap, low cost apartment complexes in the old industrial park over the last decade, in which nearly every resident is black or mexican, our crime rate has sky rocketed. Our public buildings are covered with graffiti, our public parks are littered with trash including but not limited to empty liquor bottles and drug baggies. Rape and murder for the first time ever is being reported to the police. What about that? Since when is gentrification bad, but slumification is not?

Lived in LA my whole life and it's crazy about the lady who moved to Moreno Valley cause my dad did the same thing 8 years ago. He was tired of the city and traffic like they mentioned. He's 73 now he wanted to retire out in the inland empire area and get a cheaper house. He sold our old home and cashed out. He got a bigger cheaper home out there now.

Ann, Miguel and Saul did an amazing job with this podcast. This show is timely and relevant. Our neighborhoods are changing so quickly that we need journalists who can synthesize what’s going on and provide voice to the voiceless. Keep up the great work!

This show is not as historical or intellectual as it could be, but the reporting itself is great. There's not enough high quality investigative, on the ground reporting about LA. I'm grateful for this show - it's teaching me a lot!

Excellent podcast for those interested in LA real estate & sociocultural issues impacting LA!

So much culture, I love it. Real voices and real stories, with a side of education.

I grew up in Oakland CA. I wanted to live there forever but I don’t make enough money as a single mother to afford it. I moved to Atlanta and bought a home. I plan to move back in 2019 but I know it will be a struggle. I love my city and my friends. I get very upset when I hear about people that moved to a dangerous part of Oakland constantly complaining about the shooting, reckless driving, robberies, trash and so on. My comment is “move somewhere that doesn’t have all of that”. I’m from Oakland and know better than to live in some of those neighborhoods. I don’t want to see these kids die because of someone being fearful and not understanding.

This podcast is a great look into the causes, process, and ramifications of gentrification. The interviews were heartbreaking and if you're not angry (or worried) after listening to this podcast then congrats on your wealth, luck of owning a house, or whiteness.

Season 1 of There Goes the Neighborhood was the most educational podcast I ever listened too. I was looking forward to the second season for a long time, and now it is here. For lovers of New York, the first season is a must listen.

A really great podcast on a topic that is happening all over the country.

Beautifully put together, with interviews from all walks of life that are affected by the gentrification of Brooklyn: the long term residents, the white newcomers, the real estate agents, the lawyers, the students, the kids. A nuanced look at what is lost and gained.

Completely repetitive. Same interviews and sound clips over and over. There is nothing to learn here.

Only complaint is it ended after 9 episodes. So many more facets of gentrification, development, and NYC you can keep going into! I’d listen every week!

WNYC and The Nation combine forces to dissect and describe the forces of gentrification in our society. Excellent investigative reporting meets pressing issues; at times, you can hear the fear and frustration pouring through interviews of residents of New York City. More please!

Very good job of explaining where we got to where we are.

Probably the most inclusive reporting on the topic I've seen so far.

The podcast started strong with lots of interviews and was easy to relate to. During the last two episodes it no longer felt as if it was a story of developing history, but rather about how scummy the show runner thought gentrifiers were. It went from journalistic reporting to biased oratory. I’m glad it ended.

Love the focus on this story

Nice to listen to but doesn't seem to present both sides of gentrification. How is it bad for more revenue to be pumped in to a city? So I send my kids to private schools, the public schools still increase their funding per pupil. In an era where human service budgets are continually being cut and will continue to be, we need focus on solutions rather than power struggle and guilt. I suppose urban sprawl and its awfulness is better? This could be a discussion piece, but seems more like smoke and mirrors.

I just have one criticism, and it could be nothing more than my misunderstanding of the story, since I live in Chicago. One of the issues that arises with gentrification, as I’ve seen it, is that the change in the community isn’t just one of race, but the families that may have been there for generation are being replaced/displaced by single, pre-suburban people who are not going to let their children attend public school there. I wonder if that is the case in this instance as well. But all in all it is really good reporting.

A must for anyone in NYC, or any gentrifying urban center! Really appreciate the deep dive.

Born and raised in Bushwick I have seen and continue to see the changes gentrification has brought. I find myself in a hard spot. As a home owner in Bushwick gentrification has been great for my property value. But I also see the really hard situation my family members that rent are living right now. These are important issues that need to be discussed. It's great that this podcast is giving a voice to the Latinos and Black people being displaced by gentrification.
