I’m Asian American but I got hooked on some of the diaspora episodes because they were so relatable to my own experience — then the hair and colorism episodes hooked me because I am a woman who also struggles with white beauty standards. This podcast is a comfort listen for me, I love the hosts’ friendship and soothing voices.

I liked Episode 55 but I would have liked to see an inclusion of the realities that black women face who don’t have the archetypal black booty. Yes having a booty can be stigmatized - but we can’t overlook how black people (men and women) talk about and talk towards black women who “don’t have a booty” or a certain body frame. If you are a black woman and don’t have a booty - you are literally irrelevant and black people are always the first to let you know this.

Anything Earth, Wind, and Fire ESPECIALLY if being played by an HBCU band!!!

On the zamunda episode I was quite perplexed on how this film was taken in a serious way, like Africa was portraited poorly, I was more on the last portion where they talked about this was just a fun film. The fact that Lesli jones is a sound actor of sound mind whom I assume choose that role, to minimize her decision and project on to her as an unattractive etc was too much. Let’s be real that came out of the person because that’s what society keeps projecting on her. Wesley playing the general is not that far off, we have general Amin, and more or less his predecessor Mseveni and dictators who continue to run many countries in Africa so that wasn’t that far off. All in all we are have so little as in black entertainment that we dissect any that comes our way, so that in itself is an issue. Here is to one day having so much black entertainment that we don’t have time to dissect it.

Enjoy listening to Head on a Swivel - these are thoughts, feelings, experiences that people of color don’t feel safe discussing or have been conditioned to suppress any uncomfortable feelings about for their own survival sake. Blacks too should be able to talk about things that people not like us may feel uncomfortable listening to. It’s done without bashing but just being free to think about how this or that affects a person of color. 💕💚

I thought that now that we have a president who is gearing up for war in the Middle East, ensuring Americans do not get a fair price on prescription drugs, ensuring that opioid addicts don’t get the kind of help they need, and striving to remove our 1st and 2nd amendment rights, we could finally listen to a podcast that doesn’t spend time bashing Trump, the one who “lost.” I was wrong. If you haven’t heard enough about how bad Trump and his supporters are, this podcast is for you.

They are honestly really welcoming and friendly. I usually don’t like podcasts, but this one is what I think many of us need to hear. It’s very calming, like I could be on a walk listening to this as a normal. It may not be for everyone, but I’d listen to one you never know.

So good to have this beautifully curated diversity of viewpoints. Something I was longing for but couldn’t put my finger on. The global perspective of multiple people is great, and formatted this way it’s not limited to the hosts and an interview guest as most other podcasts are.

I appreciate this podcast so much. There’s so much valuable information and all of their personal anecdotes are relevant and interesting additions to the topics they’re discussing.

this is one of my fav podcasts. i’m white, so i know this podcast isn’t for me, but i’ve learned so much from it over the last few years, and really started to understand what is meant by “black people are not a monolith” - it’s obvious now, but the diversity and nuance within the black community has been so enlightening and i hope has served to make me a better ally in fighting anti racism. secondly, this podcast is just plain well produced. i love the use of music/sound editing in this show, i love the interview styles and of course the topics are always super interesting. so glad it exists!

As a white man, I listen because I need to challenge the conventional racial narrative I hear every day, and hear stories that do not center the experience of people like me. Thank you for this podcast!
